Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine Berlin, Campus Buch, Germany The recently inaugurated Ultrahigh-Field MR Facility at the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC), Berlin, Germany is seeking an enterprising MR-Technologist/Engineer/Staff Scientist for Pre-Clinical Small Animal Imaging The primary duty of this position is to maintain the animal imaging system and to implement and support in vivo animal MR studies in internal/external projects. The position involves establishment of small animal MRI technology including every stage from pulse sequence programming to protocol optimization to hardware developments to image/data analysis for the ultimate goal to characterize physiological and pathophysiological processes and mechanisms on the organ, tissue and (sub)-cellular level while being transferable from basic research to (pre)clinical studies. Supervision of students/investigators is also be required. The position would be well suited for an individual with a Master's degree or higher (Biological Science, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences or other related fields along with a strong interest in (pre)-clinical imaging, strong initiative and excellent communication skills. Prior experience with some aspects of physiological research, MRI of laboratory animals or MR engineering are desirable. Expertise in MR pulse sequence development, preferably but not necessarily on a Bruker MR scanner would be beneficial. Experience with statistical and data analysis techniques, e.g. IDL, MatLab, Labview etc. would also be an advantage, though the facility will provide guidance for post-processing of image data and experimental planning for longitudinal studies. The animal MR laboratory includes a 9.4 T animal MR system (Bruker Biospin), animal preparation rooms and various physiology monitoring capabilities. Access to state-of-the-art human MR instruments dedicated to research including a multiple transmit 7.0 Tesla, a 3.0 Tesla, a 1.5 T (in collaboration with the Helios Clinic, Berlin) whole body system (Siemens Magnetom) and to high-resolution vertical bore NMR spectrometer (300 MHz, 400 MHz, 600 and 900 MHz, in collaboration with the Leibniz Institute for Molecular Pharmacology) is also available. Opportunities will exist to conduct a PhD study for candidates with an MSc degree or higher. The appointment will be initially for a period of 3 years. The Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine is an equal opportunity employer.
