SCIENCE-JOBS-DE Stellenausschreibung (vacancies) ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dieses Angebot wurde eingetragen von http://www.doktorandenboerse.info, der deutschlandweiten Vermittlung fuer Doktorarbeiten aus Medizin, Naturwissenschaften und anderen Fachrichtungen ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ort: Würzburg Fachrichtungen: Medizin / Biologie / Pharmazie Institution: Sonstiges Thema: TSH receptor autoantibodies in Graves Disease Weitere Einzelheiten zu diesem Angebot erfahren Sie unter http://www.doktorandenboerse.info/suchen/angebot_ausgabe.php?Angebot_id=4941 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A PhD fellowship is vacant as of November 1, 2009 at the Bio-Imaging Center/Rudolph Virchow Center, University of Wuerzburg. The title of the project is: TSH receptor autoantibodies in Graves Disease. The thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), secreted by the anterior pituitary, is the master regulator of thyroid hormone production and thyroid cell proliferation. Not surprisingly then, the TSH receptor, a G-protein-coupled receptor present on the surface of thyroid cells, is implicated in several thyroid diseases. In particular, autoantibodies capable of binding and stimulating the TSH receptor are responsible for a condition of severe hyperthyroidism known as Graves disease. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to work on a project aimed at better understanding the mechanisms of TSH receptor activation by autoantibodies and developing new assays that might be useful in the clinical management of these patients. Applicants should preferably have a background in cellular biology, pharmacology or internal medicine/endocrinology and an interest in live cell imaging. The experimental approach will utilize advanced microscopy techniques, such as FRET, to monitor the conformational changes induced at the level of the TSH receptor by stimulating autoantibodies and to measure the biological activity of sera from Gaves patients. Applications are invited from all nationalities, with a Master's degree (or Diploma) in a relevant area. The candidate is supposed to participate in the Graduate School of Life Sciences of the University of Wuerzburg (http://www.graduateschools.uni-wuerzburg.de/life_sciences/).
