Aging of our organism has been interpreted as signs of aging in these tissue resident stem cells. Recent progress in cellular engineering allows reprogramming of somatic cells to an embryonic stem cell like phenotype, including pluripotency and indefinite growth. A thorough understanding of aging, rejuvenation and tumor formation is inevitable for future medical applications. Methoden: Our project aims at determining gene signatures that are associated with these processes by an interdisciplinary integrative in silico analysis of our own genome-wide gene expression data in combination with further data sets from public repositories and employing bioinformatics tools of system biology. A focus will be the identification of pathways and functional modules, which are involved in the overlap of aging, rejuvenation and tumor formation. Anfangsdatum: 29. The applicant should be familiar with bioinformatics tools and the respective data bases, based on a good understanding of the respective biological processes. Experience in multivariate statistics and data mining would be helpful. The project has a strong interdisciplinary focus combining advanced data analysis and modeling approaches with top level biology in one of the hottest area of research. Therefore the candidate must be open to integrate novel methods in both areas in close cooperation with the project partners. We offer a highly interactive and well equipped environment in a team with national and international partners, a broad spectrum of methods and a relevant topic. Initial employment will be for one year (TV-L E13) on a collaborative project between Prof. Andreas Schuppert, Prof. Marin Zenke and Prof. Wolfgang Wagner.
