LEAD STORY
"Dot-coms were "da bomb" for iSeries salaries"
The dot-com heyday may be over, but it hasn't depressed
salaries and bonuses for midrange professionals. After a
few lethargic quarters, raises for IT workers have
rebounded to near the range of pre-Y2K. Since the iSeries
is at the heart of real business, iSeries shops are largely
insulated from the whims of the technology sector.

[1] "IBM, DOE to partner on supercomputer"
IBM will announce plans to collaborate with U.S. Energy
Department researchers on a massively powerful
supercomputer to study complex scientific issues. The
supercomputer, called Blue Gene, is expected to be 80-times
quicker than the fastest current supercomputer. It would be
able to make more than 1,000 trillion calculations per
second, or 1,000 teraflops or 1 petaflop.

coming"
Be afraid. Be very afraid. IBM predicts that the amount of
information on earth will skyrocket from 3.2 million
exabytes to 43 million exabytes by 2005. Barry Rudolph,
vice president of storage systems at IBM and keynote
speaker at this year's IBM Storage and Storage Networking
Symposium says that the real challenge will not be storing
the data, but rather, storage management.

THE MISSING LINK
A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web
----------------------------------------

"Queen goes tea-towel e-commerce crazy"
Queen Elizabeth is keeping the Royal Pointer and Clicker
busy these days updating an e-commerce Web site where she
sells whiskey, tea towels and overnight stays at her
Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Liz2, as the locals have
dubbed her, hopes the pounds she's lifting from thirsty
Brits will pay for the upkeep of beautiful Balmoral. In
fact, she's throwing open the drawbridge at Balmoral to
visitors at a reasonable 4.5 pounds a head to help offset
upkeep costs.
