Today's Featured Tip
=============================================================

Use hotspots to mouse-enable PC5250 screens

Hotspots can be valuable aids for Windows-dependent users to
better navigate PC5250 green screens. They allow users to
activate function keys, launch macros and scripts, execute
strings on a 5250 screen as if they had been typed on an
iSeries 400 command line or an input-capable field, and launch
a Web-browser from inside an RPG program. Joe Hertvik shows
you how to set up hotspots and gives you tips for using them.

Answers to Other Administrator Questions
=============================================================

1. Add lots of info to your sign-on screen
Although placing message fields on a sign-on display will
allow you to modify the content displayed at sign on, needing
a different message field for each line makes it irritating to
work with. Fortunately, you can get the same display
capability by using just a single message field. Check out
this tip for the details.

2. Reorganize physical files automatically
This tip consists of two CL programs and one RPG program. The
first CL program creates a work file of the files in a given
library. The second CL program reorganizes the file, meeting
the percentage that is coded in the RPG program. Check it out,
it may save you some time.

3. Delay in response time
This member noticed a delay in response time when comparing
HOD/Screen Customizer to WebFacing. He's planning on creating a Host
Publisher 'view' of the same application as a part of a demo Web site
and is wondering if he will experience the same delay with HP. Check
out this forum to see what advice he received from his peers.

4. Maximum limit to the number of records within a file
One member writes, "Is there a maximum limit to the number of
records that can be contained in a file or a member within a
file? I've heard that there is a limit of 1 billion records,
but I don't know if that's on a file or member level, or if
it's even true to begin with." Site expert Richard Belles
offers some advice.
