[cayugabirds-l] eBird Report - Hunt Hill Rd. 147, Sep 27, 2013
Good morning! I just spent a very enjoyable 2 hours birding around our 5 acres, mostly on the front 1/2 acre. Lots of activity today with a constant parade of new birds showing up. The most impressive for me was a mixed group of GOLDEN CROWNED and RUBY CROWNED KINGLETS. I reported 5 and 4 of each, respectively, but I think that is an underestimate. They stayed around feeding low in white pines for at least 1/2 hour. The warblers kind of trickled through which kept it very interesting. First of the year birds included the two WINTER WRENS and the SWAINSON'S THRUSH. Nice morning! My ebird list is below. [cayugabirds-l] 2 Connecticut Warblers at Lindsay-Parsons
Just got back from a nice walk at LP. Found a large flock of Nashville Tennessee Warblers, plus a smattering of other migrants here and there. Best were two extremely cooperative Connecticut Warblers along the trail near the main trail/short trail down to Coleman Lake junction, a late Scarlet Tanager in a chickadee flock, and a fearless Rusty Blackbird foraging in dry leaf litter inside a forest patch, flicking leaves with its bill a la a Neotropical leaftosser. Great day to be outside! [cayugabirds-l] Fwd: FW: Cornell Lab of Ornithology Website: University of Alberta Birds and Windows Project
Hi All, Wanted to share this email about a new citizen science monitoring project out of U. of Alberta. Marc Devokaitis -Original Message- From: Justine [mailto:birdsandwind...@ualberta.ca] Sent: Wednesday, September 25, 2013 5:14 PM To: Cornell Lab of Ornithology Subject: Cornell Lab of Ornithology Website: University of Alberta Birds and Windows Project Hello, The University of Alberta has developed the Birds and Windows Project to study bird window collisions at your home. We encourage everyone to take a look at our website and participate in the study. What is the issue? It has been estimated up to 1 billion birds are killed in North America each year as a result of bird window collisions! This is one of the largest threats to bird populations, with residential homes representing the majority of building-related mortality. Get involved! To better understand what can be done to reduce bird window collisions, the University of Alberta has developed this project to actively involve YOU in data collection. We are asking you to think about bird window collisions you have observed in the past and would like you to regularly search around your residence for evidence of bird window collisions in the future. By collecting this data we hope to identify the factors that make some windows more risky for birds than others. As a citizen scientist you can help! Visit the website for more information: http://birdswindows.biology.ualberta.ca/ Thank you for helping us make our homes a healthy habitat for us and all our neighbors! Please forward this email to any one else you think would be interested. -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --

[cayugabirds-l] Eastern Phoebe still around?
I swear I've been hearing an EAPH singing the past few days... just around dusk last night and this morning at 6:45am! I had one nesting on my barn ALL summer, and screaming her PHOE-BE! song all summer, but just realized she's been quiet for awhile. Then I heard it last night and this morning. I guess I assumed she'd already moved on? Could it be someone else?\ BTW I'm not in the Finger Lakes region right now- I'm in Cobleskill- Schoharie, County Alyssa Johnson SUNY Cobleskill Class of 2014 Wildlife Management, BT Nature in a Nutshell Discovering wildlife @ Albany Times Union -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --

At least one Connecticut still present in the same area, now at northern end of same field. On Sep 27, 2013 1:54 PM, Benjamin Freeman bg...@cornell.edu wrote: Just got back from a nice walk at LP.
