[cayugabirds-l] Pine Warbler, Beebe Lake
A PINE WARBLER was singing along Forest Home Drive at the east end of Beebe Lake this morning. David Weber reported it from earlier this morning. Several BUFFLEHEAD and a pair of REDHEADS were on the lake. Phoebes and juncos were singing, and a tailless SWAMP SPARROW popped up in response to pishing. Stewart Park was quiet. Also, Chris had a Louisiana Waterthrush at Monkey Run this morning. -- Jay McGowan Macaulay Library Cornell Lab of Ornithology jw...@cornell.edu -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] Dryden Lake
Spent about 45 min. at Dryden Lake late morning, between showers. I scoped from the first fishing platform and walked the trail along the lake. Highlight was a COMMON LOON plus a nice collection of ducks. See list below. Also saw an OSPREY on a snag close to the road in the wetland along 38 just outside of the village. [cayugabirds-l] Mystery Mallard - Stewart Park today
Hi All, I am reaching out to the odd duck (although this one isn't overly odd) experts to identify this mystery mallard that I discovered at this morning Stewart Park along the creek (golf course bank). Domestic? Call duck? Hybrid? If so with what? The face struck me at first as gadwall, but none of the other features seem to be there. Not much American Black Duck either. Here is some digiscoped video and photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/69504362@N03/sets/72157643669301415/ Thanks, Jason Huck -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] Fw: Ithaca breeding goose investigation
Sometimes it goes by so fast you hardly have time to reflect\ Tons and tons of potential reflection swept under the bridge\ So I inject the following peculiar observation\ I’m sitting in my office across from Agway working late tonight, ~7:45pm, and I hear calls of geese and look out the window\ I see two geese, presumably a pair, flying low (100 ft agl) circling back south, I think toward the pair’s nest site\ The question arises: Where are these geese going and how many such breeding pairs are there in the Cayuga Inlet floodplain? I’m guessing 10 pair, and I mull over lunchtime walks looking for gosslings in a month or so\ Will report back with findings\ Welcome any assistance or reports\ Bill E p.s. this is not like counting earthworms crossing the sidewalk in the rain. -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
