[Declude.JunkMail] Increasing Spool size after upgrade to 2006

2006-06-30 Thread Will
I've upgraded to Imail 2006 and my spool directory is incrementing at
the rate of four messages per minute. Over the last twelve hours I have
accumulated a little over 4000 message.

Is Declude compatible with Imail 2006? I'm using Declude 4.2.12

running. It just leaves behind a few messages each minute.

Declude 4.x is compatible with 2006. With 4000 messages in spool something
obviously is a miss. Have you opened some of those messages are the legit
messages? Are they outbound messages to other domains or for local domains?
If you search one of those message ID's in the IMAIL log are they being
attempted for delivery? Were there any error messages for them?

Will,

SMTPD is the process that receives the mail in IMAIL. It's way before
Declude ever touches it.

The files that you see left behind start with a T? If so that means
during the smtpd process something is happening and causing the connection
to close or abort leaving those files stranded. Can you confirm what files
are being left behind?

If you happen to reboot your system while a message is being received, IMail
MAY leave behind the T* and the D* files. (Any R* files are orphaned 'Q'
files.) These files are not deleted automatically.

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Increasing Spool size after upgrade to 2006

2006-06-30 Thread Colbeck, Andrew
Will, try this:

dir q*.smd | find /C /V

dir d*.smd | find /C /V

dir t*.smd | find /C /V

And let us know the results. I'm betting that you have the same
circumstance that I do after I upgraded IMail, which is that you have
very few q*.smd files, and just broken d*.smd and t*.smd from broken
inbound conversations with spammers.

My IMail 2006 has a SMTP Advanced Setting of 200 ms for Delay Between
Recipients, a poor man's substitute for tarpitting.

IMail server 8.x was used with the same setting but I saw no increase in
broken connections.

I have a nightly Scheduled Task that cleans out the broken connections;
it's one of the 3rd party scripts that Declude shares on their website.

Andrew 8)

P.s. on the other hand, it could mean that you have some other problem,
such as the SMTP service is stopping and starting a lot and breaking
connections, or some circumstance completely unrelated to the IMail 2006
upgrade, like a flapping route or network connection!

81 D files, 81 T files, and 8 Q files. Perhaps these are just broken
connection files. It's simply alarming that I would not have this issue

I have a nightly Scheduled Task that cleans out the broken connections;
it's one of the 3rd party scripts that Declude shares on their website.

P.s. on the other hand, it could mean that you have some other problem,
such as the SMTP service is stopping and starting a lot and breaking
connections, or some circumstance completely unrelated to the IMail 2006
upgrade, like a flapping route or network connection!

The messages in question have similar log entries, which are

They seem to end at this point and the D and sometimes T
 files are left.

As I look at my spool directory I see about three to six
files each minute left behind. All other mail is being
processed and messages I have sent in test have all been processed.

Declude 4.x is compatible with 2006. With 4000 messages in
spool something obviously is a miss. Have you opened some of
those messages are the legit messages? Are they outbound
messages to other domains or for local domains?
If you search one of those message ID's in the IMAIL log are
they being attempted for delivery? Were there any error
 messages for them?

I've upgraded to Imail 2006 and my spool directory is
 incrementing at
the rate of four messages per minute. Over the last twelve hours I
have accumulated a little over 4000 message.

Is Declude compatible with Imail 2006? I'm using Declude 4.2.12

Will:

I just received your ticket and i have replied. I thought I'd reply here as
well, just for everyone's future reference. Declude does indeed work with
Imail 2006. The issue you're having is an Imail issue not a Declude issue,
as once a message is in the spool, Declude is done with the files. We only
process Q and D files. Please see the followng link for an explanation of
Imail's spool files. http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-19981110-DD08.htm
Thank you.

81 D files, 81 T files, and 8 Q files. Perhaps these are just broken
connection files. It's simply alarming that I would not have this issue
 with 8.x.
