Re: [Flightgear-devel] FlightGear for PSP??

I thougt PSP was "Put in Sharps Pile"

(sorry for not being more helpful...I'm not sure the PSP has the power
to run FG at a decent frame rate)

You know you're getting old when you have to google PSP to find out what it
is. I always thought it was Pierced Steel Planking.

Cool Idea, and after that I'd love to have fgfs on my IPod, it's internal disk
ist large enough for the entire scenery and there is a linux implementation
for it, too (www.ipodlinux.org). I think the graphics is a little poor...

No OpenGL implementation -- I think it's got some sort of 3D hardware,
actually, but we'd need to rewrite all the rendering code to use it.
And then shrink all the textures so they fit in the thing's memory.
You'd probably have to remove all the interesting high-vertex-count
scenery too.

Certainly some sort of flight simulation on the thing is possible
(it's *much* faster than the box I was running FS 4.0 on in the early
90's), but I'm not convinced that porting FlightGear would be any
easier than just starting from scratch...

I remember discussing this before. I don't recall all the specifics,
but check the PSP's system memory and video memory ... I bet it's going
to be something really small like 4Mb + 4Mb.

I have a wild idea I hope no one kills me for! Its christmas and PSP
prices are a little lower (i think). How hard would it be to put
Flightgear on a PSP. People are already doing homebrew games on
those, ofcourse, not with very complicated graphics. But it could be
possible could it not??

Yes, it's possible.

Here's your assignment: Port the following to the PSP:

OpenGL
GLUT
zlib
Metakit
PLIB
SimGear

After that, simple. Have fun with that!

This will give you some idea where things are: http://www.goop.org/psp/gl/

My guess is the answer to your question is "hard", but possible. It sure would
be impressive!
