[gentoo-user] emerge perl-cleaner: Digest verification Failed:

2006-05-28 Thread Jarry

Hi,

today emerge showed me following error while updating perl-cleaner:

!!! Digest verification Failed:
!!!/usr/portage/distfiles/perl-cleaner-1.03.tar.gz
!!! Reason: Filesize does not match recorded size

How can I fix it?

Erase /usr/portage/distfiles/perl-cleaner-1.03.tar.gz and re-emerge
*may* fix it. Worked for me.

This is probably the third time this is brought up on this list.. ;) Just make
sure you have sync'ed portage recently, delete the file in question and try
again.

Although I have read that removing
/usr/portage/distfiles/perl-cleaner-1.03.tar.gz has worked for others,
it didn't work for me. What did work was getting it from another mirror.

I hadn't changed mirrors since I installed Gentoo a year and a half
ago. This document helped me. I don't know if the more knowledgeable
Gentoo users will think this is the best way to go, but it worked for me
to set another mirror.

 #cd /usr/portage/app-admin/perl-cleaner/

 #emerge -u perl-cleaner
 Would do the trick.

While removing any security against trojan packages. The correct approach
is to remove the packages fro $DISTDIR.

This is a terrible piece of advice. By following this he would be overriding a
security measure. See my reply to Kristian Poul Herkild in the GCC 4.1.1
Problems thread on this list.

You likely deleted the old on from yours but the mirror still has the
old one so you just got the one you just deleted back again. I deleted
mine and it worked fine. Maybe the people that run the mirror need to
remove their old copy.

Ok, I read your post and I see that it was a dangerous advice by
breaking a security measure.
I think I didn't quite understand the digest utility, but now I do and I
won't do it again on my system.
Sorry,

Regards

 Sorry,

I'm quite sure that you (and others) didn't intensionally provide bad
advice... ;)
Actually I have not been able to locate any kind of official Gentoo
documentation that tells users what to do when they run into a digest
verification error. I have opened a bug [1] about that in light of the last
couple of days where I have seen at least 4 users on IRC and on this list who
had trouble with this..
