Re: [libreoffice-l10n] QA and Native language communities

We already have language lists on the language subsites, it's
possible to have them along with the us...@xx.libreoffice.org, etc,
 like q...@xx.libreoffice.org.

At the moment, I would use the us...@xx.libreoffice.org, at least for
the upcoming minor releases (3.6.x), to see what happens when we send
out a message in the native language inviting users to test the new
version in order to find bugs and regressions.

Then we can think about a q...@xx.libreoffice.org for the native languages
where there is a sizeable community of local testers, and connect this
mailing list to the general q...@global.libreoffice.org mailing list.

One thing we could do is, if you prepare a reminder message in
English, we can translate it so that you can append translations
and send it the local lists. A short reminder message, I mean,
 something like:

** LibreOffice version is approaching, and needs your
 important help.

For those people interested in Quality Assurance and Test Case
contribution, please download the latest RC version here:
 [address], install it, then

 - login and perform Test Case in Litmus/MozTrap: [address]

Thank you for help the community! ***

Let's try to send out this message for the next minor release, and see
what happens from there.

A little incentive for the (best?) contributors could be some
gadget: a branded pen, t-shirt, mug, sticks or something like
 that.

We have stickers, and given the low price we can even think about a
specific version for native language communities and specific projects
(like member of LibreOffice Italian Team and member of LibreOffice QA
Team).

I will try to coordinate with Valter Mura for the Italian native
language community.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Number of locale users?

2014-10-14 Thread Italo Vignoli
We have decided to avoid releasing download figures, and use update
figures instead (which need some number crunching by developers: last
figure was 80 million if unique IPs pinging for updates, but goes back
to late spring). Download figures are not representative of the level of
adoption, and in addition are extremely easy to tweak.

SourceForge, for instance, is advertising based, which makes it tempting
to raise download numbers in order to ask for higher rates. The fact
that most projects hosted on SourceForge sport above average download
figures - for what is worth - raise a question mark

Back at OOo, download figures proved to be wildly inaccurate.

[libreoffice-l10n] Second Bug Hunting Session for LibreOffice 5.3

2016-11-21 Thread Italo Vignoli
LibreOffice 5.3 will be announced at the end of January 2017, with a
large number of new features which are summarized on the release notes
page: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/5.3. In order to
find, report and triage bugs, the QA team is organizing a second bug
hunting session on Friday, November 25, 2016. Tests will be performed on
the Beta version of LibreOffice 5.3, which will be available on the
pre-releases server (http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/pre-releases/) a
few days before the event. Builds will be available for Linux (DEB and
RPM), MacOS and Windows, and will run in parallel with the production
version.

Mentors will be available on November 25, 2016, from 8AM UTC to 10PM
UTC. Of course, hunting bugs will be possible also on other days, as the
builds of this particular Beta release (LibreOffice 5.3.0 Beta1) will be
available until mid December.

During the day there will be two dedicated sessions: the first to chase
bugs on the main LibreOffice modules between 3PM UTC and 5PM UTC, and
the second to test a set of the top 7 features between 5PM UTC and 7PM
UTC. All details of the second bug hunting session are available on the
specific wiki page:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugHuntingSession/5.3.0Beta1.

During the dedicated sessions, we will concentrate all efforts to chase
and reproduce the bugs, in order to confirm and file them in a more
comprehensive way. Of course, the more comprehensive will be the bug
report, the easier will be for the developers to solve the bugs in time
for the final release.

[libreoffice-l10n] NLP Budget Requests for 2017

2016-12-12 Thread Italo Vignoli
In order to improve the management of the marketing/community budget for
2017, we ask native language communities to provide the following:

1. A list of objectives you would like to pursue in 2017. Please avoid
wishful thinking, and stick to realistic objectives. A few examples:
organize a meeting with public administrations to educate them about
LibreOffice and ODF; organize a local LibreOffice Conference; reimburse
volunteers travelling around the country to present LibreOffice and ODF
at local events.

2. For each objective, provide a rationale and a sensible amount of
money. Again, we are spending donations money, and we must be extremely
cautious both with requests and with approvals. Requests missing a
rationale or easy to understand details will not be approved.

3. For requests equal or exceeding 1,000 euro, you must provide the
outline of a project, because a large amount of money is probably
covering different expenses (people, suppliers, events) and budget
approvers should be allowed to have a clear picture of what they
approve.

Examples of activities which TDF will provide a budget for:

1. community events (aimed at getting face-time for community contributors)

2. marketing activities (aimed at representing the project to the
outside world)

3. targeted projects (for instance, promoting LibreOffice in schools)

In addition, we ask you to provide a list, if any, of infrastructure
related requests, such as - for example - additional computing power or
new services for your native language community.

The idea is to keep the administrative overhead as low as possible, and
have two authorizers responsible for each budget.

TDF BoD will provide a budget bucket for marketing and one for
community. Budget requests will be associated to the relevant budget,
and then approved by budget approvers (according to the availability of
funds).

As a sample, a request could look like this:

##

We'd like to request a 2017 budget of 1000 € for community events and
1500 € for marketing.

Expenses we envision are

1. marketing: attendance at XYZ trade show to show LibreOffice to ABC
user group (700 € booth costs, 300 € for collaterals and 500 € of
travel, totalling to 1500 €),

2. community: a community weekend to discuss tasks and ideas (600 €
hotel, 100 € for snacks and 300 € travel, totalling to 1000 €).

##

Before sending any budget request, please read carefully TDF policies:

Travel: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Travel
Refunding: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Refunding
Community Refunding:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Community_Refunds

Deadline for submissions is January 20, 2017, in order to have amounts
approved during FOSDEM meetings.

Submission should be sent to treasu...@documentfoundation.org.

[libreoffice-l10n] Minutes of Marketing Call

2016-11-30 Thread Italo Vignoli
Attendants: Sophie Gautier, Angelica Burgos Diaz, Franklin Weng, Uwe
Altmann, Italo Vignoli

1. Italo has presented the UI Concept for LibreOffice 5.3. The idea is
to draft a backgrounder to announce the concept at the time of RC1
(backgrounder in progress ready for end of this week).

2. Uwe has made available the report of the Brno session on the future
of LibreOffice. The idea is to get feedback before FOSDEM to discuss at
FOSDEM (marketing session planned for Monday or Tuesday).

3. Franklin has reported about the progress in Taiwan, where provinces
are switching to ODF according to the plan drafted by the government.
Franklin is now in touch with the government.

4. Angelica has told about the adoption of LibreOffice by the Bogotà
district in Colombia, where the software has been well received by the
users. After the elections, they hope to see the government confirming
the decision of the previous one, and spreading the adoption of free
software.

5. Italo has quickly outlined the announcement schedule for LibreOffice
5.3, which will be announced on Wednesday, February 1st (if the release
plan is confirmed). The press kit should be available for localizations
around January 15.

Next marketing call will be in early January, to discuss the details of
the LibreOffice 5.3 announcement.

[libreoffice-l10n] Minutes of Marketing Call

2017-07-25 Thread Italo Vignoli
1. LibreOffice 5.4 Launch

LibreOffice 5.4 announcement is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, at 1PM
CEST. Localizations of the press release should be sent to Italo for
distribution. Media pre-briefings have been organized on Monday and
Tuesday, prior to the announcement.

2. Enterprise focused activity (Foad)

Foad is a new member of the community, who has a solid experience in
marketing software to enterprises. He will start a project to interact
with large software vendors such as SAP and SalesForce, to integrate
LibreOffice into their large enterprise software.

3. What about a Telegram marketing group?

Given the success of the Design Group on Telegram, we have created a
LibreOffice Marketing Group to integrate the public marketing mailing
list (which has been rather dormant during the last few months). The
link to subscribe to the group is the following:
https://t.me/LibreOfficeMarketing. As usual, confidential discussions
about marketing strategies and launch activities will continue on the
private marketing mailing list, which is a closed list by invitation.

4. What about a Spanish marketing group?

There is a growing number of people in Spanish speaking countries,
especially in South America, willing to help in promoting LibreOffice in
their geography. It looks like some of these people might have issues in
speaking English, so the idea is to have a Spanish marketing group
(either Telegram or mailing list) where people can discuss in their
native language, with the help of other people who might not be fluent
in Spanish but are willing to help (like Italo, who understands Spanish
but speaks a funny mixture of Italian, Spanish and Portuguese). Comments?

[libreoffice-l10n] Marketing Call July

2017-07-04 Thread Italo Vignoli
July marketing call will be focused on the announcement of LibreOffice 5.4,
scheduled for the last week of July. We will organize a number of briefings for
the media, to provide advanced information on the new major release.

Materials for localization will be available next week. During the last few
months we have added a substantial number of new journalists in Africa, Asia
and Latam, so localization will be very important.

Agenda for the call will be shared in advance, to allow people to get prepared
and ask questions.

Best, Italo

[libreoffice-l10n] IMPORTANT Change of Date of the Rome Conference

2017-05-10 Thread Italo Vignoli
Unfortunately, we have to postpone the conference to October 11 to
October 13 for logistics issues. The rooms confirmed for October 11 to
October 13 are on the Capitoline Hill, and are used by the City of Rome
for official events. They are called Sala dei Protonotari, Piccola Sala
dei Protonotari, and Sala del Carroccio.

On behalf of the organizing committee I apologize for the inconvenience.
The conference website has been updated.

I look forward to meeting the entire community in Italy in October, for
a successful conference.

Best, Italo

IMPORTANT: for any question about the conference, feel free to send me
an email, but do not reply to this message as it is sent to all mailing
lists and a reply would generate a huge amount of noise.

[libreoffice-l10n] Minutes of Marketing Call - June 14, 2017

2017-06-15 Thread Italo Vignoli
Minutes of Marketing Call - June 14, 2017

Attendees: Uwe Altmann, Jona Azizaj (partial), Florian Effenberger
(partial), Sophie Gautier, Marina Latini, Anxhelo Lushka (partial), Mike
Saunders, Martin Srebotniak, Heiko Tietze, Italo Vignoli, Franklin Weng

Agenda

1. Announcement of LibreOffice 5.4

Announcement of LibreOffice 5.4 is scheduled for the last week of July
(potential date: Wednesday, July 26). We have started collecting
information, and while Mike will be working at the new features video,
Italo will be drafting documents for the announcement: press release,
background on new features, white paper about cost of interoperability
(based on interesting findings from the National Institute of Standards
and Technologies of the US Government), white paper about ODF vs OOXML,
and possibly a video about ODF vs OOXML. Materials will be ready in
early July.

2. LibreOffice 6.0: why the change of numbering

After LibreOffice 5.4, we will change development cycle, as we will
launch the LibreOffice 6 family (starting from LibreOffice 6.0 in late
January 2018). The Design Team has started to work on a new branding
concept for LibreOffice 6.0, and we will probably launch a mascot
competition (which is going to be discussed during the next BoD
meeting). Rationale for the change of development cycle will be
discussed at the LibreOffice Conference in Rome.

3. Status of update of TDF slide decks

Italo has just managed a Migration to LibreOffice Workshop in Tirana,
and he has updated most of the shared TDF slide decks. He will upload
the updated slide decks on the wiki during the weekend, including the
first release of the ODF vs OOXML slide deck, which will be finalized in
early August (just before the workshop in Taiwan). During the next few
months, Italo will try to organize a number of webinars or seminars to
bring everyone up to speed on the topic (which is not trivial,
especially if we want to communicate with "normal" end users, who
represent the majority of LibreOffice users also in enterprises).

Questions

- LibreOffice conference and the ODF Plugfest

The technical session of the ODF PlugFest in Rome will be organized on
Tuesday, October 10, the day before the opening session of the
LibreOffice Conference. The presentation session will be organized in
the afternoon of Wednesday, October 11, at the end of the opening
session of the conference.

- Questions about Italy Defence project

The Italian Ministry of Defence has migrated 35,000 desktop out of
100,000. During the process, L2 and L3 support has been provided by the
internal structure of the organization, which is providing the same kind
of services for several applications (as most contents exchanged inside
the organization cannot be shared with any external structure, because
of the peculiar nature of the Ministry of Defence).

- Further updates of the status of UK and Munich City

We do not have any specific updates on the progress made in UK about the
switch to ODF. For sure, the UK government has now other priorities than
in 2014, because of the Brexit discussions with the EU. On the contrary,
the fact that the city of Munich is switching back to MS Windows and MS
Office seems just a matter of time. Unfortunately, the entire FLOSS
ecosystem has managed the situation in the wrong way, as it has
overlooked the importance of communicating the advantages of the switch
to OSS on a daily basis (even when you have a strong political sponsor).
For sure, the city of Munich has been functioning for 12 years - without
any major hiccup - with a FLOSS based infrastructure, which represents
in any case a testament of the viability of FLOSS for large public
administrations. Also, to switch back to MS Windows and MS Office the
city of Munich will spend almost 100 million dollars during the next few
years, with an estimated increase of 75 million dollars over the current
FLOSS infrastructure. This figure does not include hidden security costs
based on the higher vulnerability of MS Windows based systems, as
demonstrated by the recent WannaCry attacks (which have not affected
MacOS and Linux systems).

- Akademy booth

TDF booth at KDE Akademy will be staffed by Gabriele Ponzo and possibly
Xisco Faulì. Italo will put in touch the different people attending the
event.

[libreoffice-l10n] Call for Papers ODE DevRoom at FOSDEM

2018-12-14 Thread Italo Vignoli
FOSDEM is one of the largest gatherings of Free Software contributors in
the world and takes place each year in Brussels (Belgium) at the ULB
Campus Solbosch. In 2019, it will be held on Saturday February 2, and
Sunday February 3.

The Open Document Editors DevRoom is scheduled for Saturday, February 2
(from 10:30AM to 7:00PM, room UB2.147).

We are inviting proposals for talks about Open Document Editors or the
ODF standard document format, on topics such as code, localization, QA,
UX, tools, extensions and adoption-related cases. Please keep in mind
that product pitches are not allowed at FOSDEM.

The length of talks should be limited to a maximum of 25 minutes, as we
would like to have questions after each presentation, and to fit as many
presenters as possible in the schedule. Exceptions must be explicitly
requested and justified. You may be assigned LESS time than you request.

All submissions have to be made in the Pentabarf event planning tool:
https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM19.

While filing your proposal, please provide the title of your talk, a
short abstract (one or two paragraphs), some information about yourself
(name, bio and photo, but please do remember that your profile might be
already stored in Pentabarf).

To submit your talk, click on “Create Event”, then make sure to select
the “Open Document Editors” devroom as the “Track”. Otherwise, your talk
will not be even considered for any devroom at all.

If you already have a Pentabarf account from a previous year, even if
your talk was not accepted, please reuse it. Create an account if, and
only if, you don’t have one from a previous year. If you have any issues
with Pentabarf, please contact ode-devroom-mana...@fosdem.org.

The deadline is Monday, December 24, 2018. Accepted speakers will be
notified by Thursday, December 27, 2018. The schedule will be published
on Monday, December 31, 2018.

Recording Permission

The talks in the Open Document Editors DevRoom will be recorded (audio
and video).

In the “Submission notes” field, please indicate that you agree to have
your presentation recorded and published under the same license as all
FOSDEM content (CC-BY). For example: “If my speech is accepted for
FOSDEM, I hereby agree to be recorded and to have recordings - including
slides and other presentation related documents - published under the
Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) 4.0 International License.
Sincerely, Name”.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] italian

2019-07-16 Thread Italo Vignoli
There is a specific localization mailing list in Italian
(l...@it.libreoffice.org), but the current translation is right as it
refers to the number of pages of a multi page document which can be
printed on a single sheet of paper.

Draw is not handling columns or lines of text, but text fields (which
may look like columns).

LibreOffice Italian localization is managed by a group of native
speakers based in Italy, who have been handling the task for years
(since the times of OpenOffice). Contributions are welcome, but must
happen on the Italian localization mailing list.

[libreoffice-l10n] IMPORTANT LibreOffice 10th Anniversary

2020-09-07 Thread Italo Vignoli
We were originally supposed to organize some live event to celebrate
LibreOffice 10th Anniversary, but unfortunately the current situation
does not allow us to meet, not even in small groups.

On the other hand, in three weeks from now, on Monday September 28, it

[libreoffice-l10n] Marketing Plan Discussion on October 8

2020-09-29 Thread Italo Vignoli
The next Marketing Call on

October 8, 2020, at 1PM UTC (3PM CEST),
on https://jitsi.documentfoundation.org/marketing

will be entirely focused on the discussion of the Marketing Plan, using
the last version as starting point (as all previous discussions have
been distilled into that version:

https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/s/qPMWRFsxwQ6QFpK

There is also a version with just action items:

https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/s/nyX9mLtXFR2kBDD

Agenda of Items to Discuss

1. Objectives of the Marketing Plan
2. LibreOffice Technology ingredient brand
3. Label for LibreOffice provided by TDF
4. Use of LibreOffice Enterprise

If people are not able to attend because the time of the call is not
convenient, please send your questions/comments to the marketing mailing
list (market...@global.libreoffice.org), which will be the place where
the discussion will happen from now on.

To be clear, no discussions on Bugzilla and Redmine, and possibly no
discussions on board-discuss, which would be a perfectly adequate place,
to avoid overlapping of different threads in the same mailing list.

Looking forward to the discussion.

[libreoffice-l10n] Anniversary Video

2020-09-27 Thread Italo Vignoli
I have uploaded to YouTube and PeerTube (thanks to Paolo Vecchi) two

format.

Video LibreOffice Community 10th Anniversary (7 minutes)

For Twitter, there is a MP4 version of the short video available on
Nextcloud: https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/s/nZewMktFKH2MLdX.

This is a suggestion for the tweet to support the video:

Today is LibreOffice 10th Anniversary: it is a significant achievement

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] L10n Stats

2020-09-29 Thread Italo Vignoli
Although statistics are missing, probably over 95% of localizations are
contributed by the community, and this is constantly affirmed in all the
presentations we are making around the world (I already did more than 20
during 2020, and I will do others before the end of the year).

Unfortunately, counting all contributions is not trivial, because there
are cases - such as Italian - where only one person commits the patches
but over a dozen contribute the translations.

I hope to have Weblate connected to the dashboard, as this would allow
to have at least some statistics - possibly not perfect - to use not
only for press releases but also for presentations.

In addition, only a minor percentage of people active in localization
applies for TDF membership, while almost 100% of core developers do, and
this does not provide the same level of representation to the community
of people active in localization.

By the way, in late July we have applied to the Guinness World of
Records as LibreOffice is the software available in the largest number
of languages, but we are still waiting for their reply (for "free"
applications, the standard answer is 12 weeks, so we should be close to
receiving it).

[libreoffice-l10n] REMINDER IMPORTANT LibreOffice 10th Anniversary

2020-09-17 Thread Italo Vignoli
I HAVE RECEIVED ONLY THREE PICTURES SO FAR, I THOUGHT THE LIBREOFFICE
ANNIVERSARY WAS AN IMPORTANT MILESTONE FOR OUR COMMUNITY

We were originally supposed to organize some live event to celebrate
LibreOffice 10th Anniversary, but unfortunately the current situation
does not allow us to meet, not even in small groups.

On the other hand, in three weeks from now, on Monday September 28, it
will be exactly 10 years since we announced the LibreOffice project and
The Document Foundation (which was incorporated two years later).

The idea is to put together an animated video of community members
celebrating the 10th anniversary, smiling to the LibreOffice community

advance, on Sunday September 27, to allow everyone to publish the video
on their website (long version) or to share it on social media (short

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] LibreOffice 7.0 banner for translation

2020-07-31 Thread Italo Vignoli
Unfortunately, Vegur - which was chosen in 2010 for the LibreOffice logo
- has not been developed properly with diacritical signs, and represents
an issue for many languages. I think we should make a search for a truly
global font which can be visually associated to the LibreOffice logo,
and start using it for all text.

LibreOffice is available in 119 different languages, and therefore the
challenge is really hard. The first font which fits the task is Noto, as
it is available in many language variants, but although non serif like
Vegur it might not be the best - or only - choice.

[libreoffice-l10n] LAST CHANCE Community/Marketing Budgets 2021

2020-12-09 Thread Italo Vignoli
First of all, thanks to the few communities that have replied in due
time. As we would like to get all requests from all communities, we have
extended the deadline to December 20, in order to have the budget ready
in early 2021 (attention: no further delays).

We are asking native language communities to provide the following:

1. A list of objectives you would like to pursue in 2021. Please avoid
wishful thinking, and stick to achievable objectives. A few examples:
organize a virtual meeting with public administrations to educate them
about LibreOffice and ODF; organize a local Virtual LibreOffice
Conference; support local groups organizing activities – from remote –
in schools and universities; etc.

2. For each objective, provide a rationale and a sensible amount of
money. Again, we are spending donations money, and we must be extremely
cautious both with requests and with approvals. Requests missing a
rationale or spending details (easy to understand) will not be approved.

3. For requests equal or exceeding 1,000 euro, you must provide the
outline of a project, because a large amount of money is probably
covering different expense chapters (infrastructure, suppliers, OOP
money) and budget approvers should be allowed to have a clear picture of
what they approve.

Examples of activities which TDF will provide a budget for:

1. virtual community events (aimed at getting face-time for contributors)

2. marketing activities (aimed at representing the project to the
outside world)

3. community events in presence (only if possible according to the local
law)

4. targeted projects (for instance, promoting LibreOffice in schools)

In addition, we ask you to provide a list, if any, of infrastructure
related requests, such as - for example - additional computing power or
new services for your native language community.

The idea is to have a good plan for 2021 as soon as possible, while
keeping the administrative overhead low, and have two authorizers
responsible for the final approval of the budget.

TDF BoD will provide a budget bucket for marketing and a budget bucket
for community. Budget requests will be associated to the relevant
budget, and then approved by budget approvers (according to the
availability of funds).

##

Before sending any budget request, please read carefully TDF
reimbursement policies:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Community_Refunds.

The updated deadline for the submission is December 20, 2020. Submission
should be sent to treasu...@documentfoundation.org, with copy to
so...@libreoffice.org, flo...@documentfoundation.org and
it...@libreoffice.org.

[libreoffice-l10n] Community/Marketing Budgets 2021

2020-11-06 Thread Italo Vignoli
Dear members of LibreOffice native language communities,
We are going through challenging times, for reasons which have nothing
to do with free open source software. The pandemic is hitting hard every
geography, and as a consequence all activities are slowed down or delayed.

In 2020, we were supposed to organize events and other face-to-face
meetings, and this was reflected by approved budget requests. Because of
the situation, the majority of the budget has not been spent.

On the other hand, we want to support your community and marketing
activities under the new conditions, where the majority of countries is
under partial or total lockdowns, or – in the best of cases – with
constrained mobility.

The situation is not going to change for the foreseeable future, so for
the first six months of 2021, if not for the entire year.

So, we have to schedule in advance marketing/community activities, to
approve the budget as soon as possible – hopefully before the end of
2020 or very early in 2021 – and have the time to get organized.

We are therefore asking native language communities to provide the
following:

Deadline for the submission is November 30, 2020. Submission should be
sent to treasu...@documentfoundation.org, with copy to
so...@libreoffice.org, flo...@documentfoundation.org and
it...@libreoffice.org.

[libreoffice-l10n] FOSDEM DevRoom

2021-12-22 Thread Italo Vignoli
Deadline for submitting talks for the LibreOffice DevRoom is December
26, and is approaching fast. At the moment, there are only three talks
submitted, which are definitely not enough for a decent devroom (we are
at AOO level... and this is unpleasant). Everyone is invited to submit a
talk, preferably with a technical angle, related to advocacy of ODF or
LibreOffice Technology.

I will try to be a good example by submitting three talks for the
LibreOffice Technology DevRoom ("Advantages of LibreOffice Technology",
"Why ODF is a better standard than OOXML", and "LibreOffice 7.3 New
Features"), one talk for the Legal DevRoom ("Why the pandemic could help
FOSS, but was a win for proprietary software"), and one talk for FOSDEM
Main Track ("Strategies and tactics to make a community managed FOSS
project sustainable in the medium to long term").

Promoting ODF and LibreOffice Technology is one of my tasks, but I can't
be alone in doing so. Looking forward to your contributions.

Best, Italo

February 5, and Sunday, February 6. The LibreOffice DevRoom is scheduled
for Sunday, February 6, from 9AM to 7PM (times to be confirmed). If we

Saturday, February 5, in the afternoon.

NEW RULES FOR 2022

- The reference time will be Brussels local time (CET).
- Talks will be pre-recorded in advance, and streamed during the event
- Q/A session will be live

localization, QA, UX, documentation, tools, extensions, migrations and
general advocacy. Please keep in mind that product pitches are not
allowed at FOSDEM.

The length of talks is limited to a maximum of 25 minutes, as we would
like to have some minutes for questions after each presentation, and to
fit as many presenters as possible in the schedule. Exceptions must be
explicitly requested and justified. You may be assigned LESS time than
you have requested.

IMPORTANT INFORMATIONS

- Presentations have to be pre-recorded and tested for streaming before
the event.

While filing the proposal, please provide the title of your talk, a
short abstract (one or two paragraphs), some information about yourself
(name, bio and photo, but please do remember that your profile might be
already stored in Pentabarf).

To submit your talk, click on “Create Event” and select the “LibreOffice
Technology” DevRoom as the “Track”. Otherwise, your talk will not be
even considered for any devroom at all.

If you already have a Pentabarf account from a previous year, even if
your talk was not accepted, please reuse it. Create an account if, and
only if, you don’t have one from a previous year. If you have any issues
with Pentabarf, please get in touch with the DevRoom manager.

[libreoffice-l10n] Marketing/Community Budgets for 2023

2022-12-20 Thread Italo Vignoli
Let's do awesome things! Get support for your projects and ideas from
TDF budget

Want to organise a local LibreOffice event? Need some merchandise to
boost your project or community? Then we can help you!

The Document Foundation, the non-profit behind LibreOffice, is backed by
contributions from ecosystem members and volunteers, as well as
donations from end-users. This helps us to maintain TDF, but we can do a
lot more too. And next year, we want to do a lot of projects again!

Each year, we set a budget that LibreOffice projects and communities can
use for financial support. Some examples:

* Booking a location, and travel refunds for a local event (eg a
translation sprint)

* Merchandise for community members, to use at events and conferences
* Infrastructure to start a new project (or help an existing one)

So if you have some ideas for a meetup, project or activity that could
benefit from financial help, let us know! We can also assist you in
other ways: our team members are there to help you, and enable you to do
exciting and interesting things.

You don't need to work out all the technical details right now - the
main thing is that we have an overview. To help us with planning, we
kindly ask you to send your ideas by January 6, 2023, as we try to
prepare the 2023 annual budget in January.

You can send your proposal (with estimated costs) to
treasu...@documentfoundation.org and me...@documentfoundation.org, and
we'll take a look. Of course, can't guarantee that everything will be
considered and approved, but we'd love to hear your ideas!

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Document Liberation Project flyer for translations

2023-02-20 Thread Italo Vignoli
Mr Barrientos, I am really fed up by your repeated mentions of TDF
Marketing team based only on your personal opinions and not on facts. In
this case, you mention us in a negative way completely out of context,
and is not the first time that this happens.

From your words, it looks like TDF Marketing team is responsible for
all negative things which happen at TDF. Sorry, but this repeated
bashing of other people's activities is not respectful and doesn't
belong to the community spirit.

I am copying TDF BoD, TDF Membership Committee and TDF Team, as I am
totally fed up by your attitude. I hope they will ask you to maintain a

More like the TDF’s Marketing team. But, to their credit, at least they are
not asking us to pirate proprietary fonts, as some developer who shall
remain unnamed asked me to do years ago to take my translation of a flyer...

From the Design team we proposed Murecho, which has quite an extensive
character coverage.

[libreoffice-l10n] TDF Marketing/Community Budget for 2024

2023-12-04 Thread Italo Vignoli

Dear members of LibreOffice native language communities,

We have to schedule in advance the majority of marketing/community
activities for 2024, to approve the budget as soon as possible –
hopefully very early in 2024 – and have the time to get organized. In
2023, we have had a growing number of events worldwide, and in 2024 we
would like to see that number increase.

We are therefore asking native language communities to provide the
following:

1. A list of objectives you would like to pursue in 2024. Please avoid
wishful thinking, and stick to achievable objectives. A few examples:
organize a meeting with public administrations to educate them about
LibreOffice and ODF; organize a local LibreOffice Conference; support
the organization of activities in schools and universities; etc.

1. local community events (aimed at getting face-time for contributors)
2. marketing activities (aimed at representing the project to the
outside world)

3. targeted projects (for instance, promoting LibreOffice in schools)

In addition, we ask you to provide a list of purchase requests, such as
printing stickers, banners or roll-ups for events, or t-shirts/hoodies
for members of your native language community, etc.

The idea is to have a good plan for 2024 as soon as possible, while
keeping the administrative overhead low, and have two authorizers
responsible for the final approval of the budget.

TDF BoD will provide a budget bucket for marketing and a budget bucket
for community. Budget requests will be associated to the relevant
budget, and then approved by budget approvers (according to the
availability of funds).

###

Before sending any budget request, please read carefully TDF
reimbursement policies:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Community_Refunds.

Deadline for the submission is December 31, 2023. Email messages should
be sent to treasu...@documentfoundation.org, with copy to
so...@libreoffice.org, flo...@documentfoundation.org and
it...@libreoffice.org.
