[nysbirds-l] Interesting Small White Goose - Jones Beach
While birding Jones Beach this afternoon, I saw an interesting small, Ross's -type goose along the south side of Ocean Parkway, feeding on the lawn in front of the West Bathhouse (within the chain-link fenced area). Dave LaMagna originally discovered and photographed this individual yesterday. This bird initially struck me as very similar to a Ross's with a distinct blue base to the bill and the absence of a noticeable grin patch. However, upon closer inspection, the bird exhibited a slightly curved base to the bill as well as a bit larger bill than may be expected - possibly pointing toward a hybrid. [nysbirds-l] Audubon's Warbler
The following message was forwarded to me by Gene Herskovics who does not have a smart phone and is not a memeber of the list. The bird was seen this morning. -Isaac Gene Herskovics, Stella Miller, and Charlotte Miska had an "Audubons" Yellow-Rumped Warbler at Sunken Meadow SP this morning. It was located South of the Eastern most parking lot just across the wooden bridge along the waters edge. It was foraging by itself. -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[nysbirds-l] Shinnecock and Tiana Beach, Dune Rd., Sunday, Dec. 2nd
Hi, A very quiet morning at Shinnecock Inlet. More bulldozers than birds around the jetties and no real movement of birds offshore .We found a lone Bonaparte Gull lolling with Ringbills on the sliver of sandbar at the inner bay. Down past Tiana parking lot by the summertime bars we were checking the pines and within 5 minutes had a swirl of Crossbills over our heads. There were well over a hundred and this flock contained both species. [nysbirds-l] Van Cortlandt geese
Had the Barnacle Goose, Cackling Goose, and several possible Dusky Canadas at the Parade Ground at Van Cortlandt Park with the two large Canada Goose flocks. The "Dusky Geese", ssp. occidentalis, seemed not only to look different but sounded slightly different too. The cackling looks to be possibly the ssp. hutchinsii. They were all there when I left at 10:50 but were being harrassed by a photographer so don't know if they are still there. Andrew Andrew v. F.
