[Bug 598879] Re: Display shuts off during boot and after upgrade
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 865097 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/865097 No worries. Thanks for apologising and explaining why you did it that way. Main thing is the bug gets fixed anyway :) As I mentioned, I'm only running Linux in Vbox at the moment so I don't think I'll be able to do any useful testing anyway, but once a Live ISO is available incorporating the fix I should at least be able to test by booting that on my real boxes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/598879 Title: Display shuts off during boot and after upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/598879/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 598879] Re: Display shuts off during boot and after upgrade
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 865097 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/865097 It's a bit rich to suggest that this bug has already been reported and my report is a duplicate of bug 865097, when I reported it over 16 months ago and you only did so yesterday. Seems rather dishonest. Oh well. I only use Linux occassionally in Virtualbox now anyway, so won't be able to add any debug information.
[Bug 598879] [NEW] Display shuts off during boot and after upgrade
Public bug reported: I downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop and have tried booting the ISO from a USB stick and also installing it to my HD with Wubi. I used PDL-Casper- RW-Creator to create a persistent file on the USB stick and added the persistent switch to the Grub4Dos Ubuntu entry. Unfortunately my experience has been just as bad, if not worse, as when I tried Ubuntu 8.10 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1015354 When booting the Live iso from my USB stick, my display goes into sleep mode (IE is receiving no signal) from the moment Ubuntu begins booting until eventually the desktop appears several minutes later. If I was the average punter I would probably have assumed it had crashed and rebooted. As I have some experience with Linux (barely), I thought to try Ctrl- Alt-F1, which brought the monitor back to life and showed the terminal. As soon as I switched back to the main window (Ctrl-Alt-F8 I think) the display went back into sleep mode. Once it had booted, I did sudo apt-get update, which worked and then sudo apt-get upgrade, which did a lot of updates and then sent my monitor back into sleep mode, requiring me to reboot! When I tried to boot the Wubi install, again the display went into sleep mode as soon as Ubuntu started booting but this time the desktop never appeared and after about 5 minutes I rebooted. My motherboard is a Gigabyte MA780G-UD3H and I'm using the onboard HD3200 IGP and a Phenom II X3 720 and 4GB DDR2 1066Mhz RAM. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Display shuts off during boot and after upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/598879 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 365881] Re: wubi installer's pyrun.exe says no disk
I was also getting the Exception error dialog and I had to click Cancel twice before Wubi appeared. After reading some of the above comments, I went to Disk Management and unassigned the drive letter from my card reader. When I tried Wubi again there were no errors. This really needs fixing as Wubi is meant to be an easy way for people to try Ubuntu and scary dialogs are likely to make a lot of people give up right there. -- wubi installer's pyrun.exe says no disk https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365881 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I see the Hardware Driver notification, but when I click on it, the window that opens doesn't fit on the screen, so I am unable to see or click on the Activate button. Kubuntu 8.10 doesn't have this problem. It still only offers 640x480 with the VESA driver, but the Hardware Drivers window is fully visible. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-vesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Hardware Driver window unusable with VESA driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310157 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 309702] Re: Primary display unusable with dualhead nvidia card and nv driver
** Summary changed: - display corrupted with dualhead nvidia card + Primary display unusable with dualhead nvidia card and nv driver ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex - xserver-xorg-video-nv v1:2.1.10-lubuntu2 + xserver-xorg-video-nv v1:2.1.10-1ubuntu2 Nvidia FX5600, Dell D1226H monitor, Sony XBR800 TV With both a fresh install and the Live CD, when I have both my VGA CRT monitor and my DVI CRT TV connected, the monitor display is just a mess of colour, as shown in the attached photo. Also, switching to a terminal window, once the screen is full, it stops refreshing or displaying any output and I have to switch to another terminal window and back again to see the response to each command I enter. With the install, I can obtain a desktop by using the vga= switch, but there is no mouse pointer, which makes it impossible to use and it still had the terminal window problem as described above. With the LiveCD, if I boot into Safe mode it works using VESA, but only at 640x480 which is too small to be able to access some of the buttons on windows. After reading Bug #43710 I tracked the problem down to my TV being connected on the secondary DVI port. Strangely, unplugging the TV power from the wall didn't help, so I guess it must hold a residual charge that still enables the PC to detect it. Disconnecting the DVI lead fixed it. It seems that when both my TV and monitor are connected, what happens is that xorg uses the TV as the main display (which displays correctly) but it's trying to clone it on the monitor, which leads to the problems mentioned. I'll upload a few log and conf files in additional posts. -- X.Org X Server 1.5.2 Release Date: 10 October 2008 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.24-19-server i686 Ubuntu Current Operating System: Linux ubuntu 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Fri Oct 24 06:42:44 UTC 2008 i686 Build Date: 24 October 2008 08:00:16AM xorg-server 2:1.5.2-2ubuntu3 (bui...@rothera.buildd) Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org to make sure that you have the latest version.
