[Fonts] cursor.pcf.gz
I'm having some problems with a need for a large mouse pointer and KDE (we need a large mouse pointer because the user has 4 screens all running at 1600x1200 and have so much real estate that they lose the pointer). We took a bdf cursor font that someone had out there, did a bdfresize (4x), edited it with pfaedit to smooth out the edges. Saved the file, converted it to pcf, and gziped it. We have tried putting it in: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/cursor.pcf.gz and it will only work for the user's next session. After rebooting, X complains could not open default cursor font 'cursor' tried makefonts in that directory also tried restarting xfs also tried rebooting a couple more times. also tried banging my head against the wall. none of that worked. The offending pcf is included as an attachment. Please CC me on any replies, thanks... Dave Johnson [EMAIL PROTECTED] 203-956-6870 cursor-sweetlarge-134.pcf.gz Description: GNU Zip compressed data
[XFree86] Cyrix 5530 Kahlua Problem
Hello, I'm using debian sarge (Xfree 4.2.1) on a single board PC with a Geode CPU and the 5530 all in one Chip. Console Framebuffer works. Using the fbdrv with X works. Using vesa with X works. I'm limited to 60Hz though. I was trying to use the cyrix driver with X: - The device gets detected. - X starts, Monitor turns off, and on. - another monitor - this one just turns off :( - tried the drivers from Alan Cox - exactly the same happens. hmm, any ideas ? btw. It's not the first time i try to configure X :) So the values for the Monitor Timings are correct :) --Oliver ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86

[XFree86] X Server + client woes
Greetings all, I have a problem with my X server setup which seems to be common looking round the net, but the solution still evades me... I have my X server set up to serve clients on my LAN, we have 3 or 4 clients working happily, getting a login box from the X server using X -ac -query 192.168.0.42 However, we keep getting XDM: too many retransmissions and eventually, after a day or two, the X server closes the session with the message Session declared dead (both message appear on the console of the client machines. I am banging my head against the wall here as there is one client machine which does not have this problem, but its X server version and config files are identical to the rest of the clients! We are using X 4.2.1.1 on the server and clients. We have tried XDM and KDM, both give the same results. Re: [XFree86] Bounce Keys AccessX setting
Quoting Jeremy Wilkins [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Hi, Hi, How do I set the AccessX settings in XF86Config-4. I've been unable to find anything about AccessX in the man page, but XFree86 appears to support the option, I can set them from within gnome2 but I want the setting to be systemwide. xf86cfg has an interface for accessx settings, and will save the configuration in a xkb specific configuration file, that may override XF86Config options; normally /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/X0-config.keyboard, where the 0 is the display number. At some time I considered adding accessx configuration to XF86Config, but there was already code done for a xkb specific configuration file, so I used the existing code. [XFree86] XFree 4.2.99 radeon black screen
Hi, I am using XFree 4.2.99-4 (debian packages) with a HP Notebook (radeon mobility M6 LY), Debian testing (Xfree unstable) From time to time (not always, but often enough to be annoying) I get a black screen after starting the xserver, switching to a console or loggin out (kdm). Switching between console and Xserver /restarting xserver solves the problem - sometimes one has to switch 4-6 times between console/X to get a picture again :-( This does not occur if I use the vesa driver. Where can I start to track the error down? I already tried different kernel versions (2.419, 2.4.21-pre3 w and w/o acpi patch, 2.5.5x, ...)/configurations (Framebuffer, svgatextmode,...). Same problem with XFree 4.2.1/testing . The same problem is reported by other users with this configuration, too, with different Distributions (Debian, Redhat 7.3, 8) I'll be thankful for any hint Rainer ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86

If you run XFree86 vtXX then X will run on VT number XX, so with this kernel it should run on whichever console you wish. I have been using the book FreeBSD unleashed buy Michael Urban My problem is after install, I login as root, and type startx and I get the following errors. (I have installed the software at least 8 times with different options) You need to actually configure XFree86 so that it knows what graphics card, keyboard, mouse and monitor you have. Try running xf86cfg Also, unless there is some overwhelming reason to run a GUI, you may want to consider running this box from the command line. Re: [XFree86] XFree86, Radeon 7000, and 3D hardware support
Seemingly, my Radeon 7000 doesn't mind not having the support enabled, but when you turn it on, the display goes wacky. Would you recommend doing this? Is it easy enuf? http://dri.sourceforge.net/faq/faq_display.phtml?id=42 You don't have a choice with a PCI card. You could try http://penguinppc.org/~daenzer/DRI/radeon-pcigart.diff though (requires Option ForcePCIMode). I don't have a choice..? Of doing what or not what? :) And what do I do with this .diff file? I am quite the linux newbie.. :) Thanks for all your help, btw :) - John Chalice a.k.a. crysaliq ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86

When you write Linux 7.2 it tells me three things: 1) you probably know /very/ little about Linux 2) you aren't precise unless told to be -- that's a very bad habit when you work with computers, and 3) you definitely don't mean Linux 7.2. You probably mean something like Red Hat Linux 7.2 or Mandrake Linux 7.2 or whatever. There is no such thing as Linux 7.2. The distribution vendor (the people who gathered all the software on the CDs you probably used) has mailing lists and support forums you can contact, too. You can probably even do so for free, if you can live with a fellow user answering you instead of a company support person. This list is not for help when a disk has crashed or a file system is in disrepair -- it is for questions on the XFree86 X server and associated programs. -Peter PS: How in the world did you end up asking on this mailing list? It is probably as far away from being the wrong place as it can possibly be. We would like to have future queries like yours directed to the right place in the future both to help the hapless user and (most importantly) to avoid getting them here. Anything you can say about this will help! ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86
Re: [XFree86] XFree86, Radeon 7000, and 3D hardware support
On Tue, 28 Jan 2003, John S. Chalice wrote: And what do I do with this .diff file? I am quite the linux newbie.. :) It is the difference between two versions of a set of source files -- a delta, so to speak. You apply it to the older of the two versions with a nice utility called patch. The diff file (also called a patch) is the result of running the utility called diff on two files or two sets of files. It prints the differences to stdout, which the programmer can choose to look at or to redirect to a file (which is what happened in this case). The diff file is human-readable - go have a look to see which files are changed and how :) Three great points about diffs: o it is used to synchronize developers placed all over the world. Whenever somebody has written a newer version of some code s/he/it sends the diff file (usually in the socalled unified format because most people find it easier to read). It is pretty clear to the rest if the changes are worthwhile or not just from reading those diff. o you can concatenate several diff files to make one big patch: cat diff1 diff2 diff3 bigpatch o you can insert a diff file right in the middle of an email and later feed it into patch -- which will obediently ignore the text in your email and just apply the patch! Linus Torvalds used to export all the emails with interesting patches to one big file and then apply the whole shebang. You can also massage patch files pretty easily in a text editor if you need to. man patch should help you with the rest of the details. (you will probably need to type something like patch -p0 radeonpatchwhatever.diff while in the directory with all the other source code and then recompile) -Peter We need to see ex-girlfriends occasionally so that we remember why we aren't with them anymore. ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86

Re: [XFree86] Dual head radeon - terrible performance
It's really hard to answer this question unless you provide your configuration file, and preferably a log file aswell. Sure! I didn't send this when I was on the machine in question but I'll attach them now. On Tue, 2003-01-28 at 09:17, Hans Öfverbeck wrote: Hi, Maxwell Bottiger wrote: Hello all, I have a box running RH 8.0 with whatever the default builds of Xfree are for that version. The machine has a dual head radeon VE (32MB DDR) card in it, and two monitors attached. I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is a function of desktop size, or is common or what, but my display updates and moves REALLY slow. Resizing or moving a window tends to spike the cpu activity and disrupts any other runing programs. Also, all of the windows when moved or whatever refresh slowly. I thought maybe this was just in my head, but I played some with my single monitor machine at work and everything is considerably faster. The dual head box is a P4 2.4ghz, and the single head box is a Pentium II 300mhz. With a single head the P2 is considerably faster than the P4. Is this a problem with my configuration, or am I seeing something that is an effect of the increased screen size?
