Fellow PA birder Sue Kileen, Amy and I made the trip to Boonville, NY to see
the Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch. I was able to get some digiscoped shots which I
have now posted on our flickr site. Feel free to check them out at

Janet Akin, sister of Nancy Loomis (homeowner), reported that the
Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch showed up at 6:26 a.m. this morning. Nancy sent me
a message that a TV crew from Channel 7 out of Watertown is on the way to
her house! Little does the rosy finch know how famous it is becoming!

It was well worth the near-five-hour drive up to Boonville from New York City
today. Much better, anyway, than going to work. If folks can stand a few more
images of this great bird, here they are:

First, congratulations to Dave Rankin on such a great find. Secondly, I am

be a first record for New York. The photos are clearly a Gray-crowned
Rosy-finch, and the timing is perfect for a vagrant of this species.
