tests in aptdaemon pass and I can use pkcon without any problems. My

You don't need to compile anything. Just open /usr/bin/mythbuntu-
control-center in a text editor as root and remove the AptMessageDialog
from the imports. You have to leave the closing bracket.

Aptdaemon already shows the name of the binary/application which holds
the lock in the status message: Waiting for XXX to exit Possible
values in real life are aptitude, apt-get, dpkg and synaptic.
The status of the transaction is set to PK_STATUS_ENUM_WAITING_FOR_LOCK
on the PackageKit

The cleanest solution would be to use aptdaemon for the daily updates
and in synaptic. But especially the later one would require a little bit
of work.
Since synaptic runs in the user session and aptdaemon doesn't it isn't
the job of aptdameon to notify the user. Sending Synaptic to the front
Hopefully some first answers:
(a) If you click on a package s-c is opened to install it. the second
dialog is just an error message that the installation tiggered. The
error only appears if you install a package file - it will never appear
if installing from a repository.
(d) The worst kind of
1. If aptdaemon dies because of SEGV we want to know it. So it is ok to
get the apport report for aptdaemon.
2. It is not ok that s-c crashses too. It should show the task cannot
be monitoried ... error dialog. I will have a look at it. SIGKILL could
also do the job to kill aptdaemon.
3. You
If a patient has too many fatal diagnosis to remember, we just say he is
seriously ill. Perhaps we should say to the user: something strange
happened on your computer
