Installing XFree86 installs a /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc which probably overwrote the choice of desktop environment your Linux distribution set up. Your Linux distribution should have a script/app to reselect the desktop environment. On redhat, I think this was called "switchdesk". Failing that,

It's not an XFree86 problem. In my experience on x86, disabling AGP usually fixes this sort of thing on NVIDIA cards, but since this is 64 bit AMD, NVIDIA may still be working other issues out. I notice that you appear to have backing store enabled. Is there a reason for that? Backing store a
