Re: [Ac100] oneiric installation

2011-10-13 Thread Charles-Michel Marle

Good morning!

Thank you Gildean, Leon Romanowski, Oliver Grawert for your answers.

Yes, Gildean, your wiki for installation of phh's latest was very useful
for me and this installation

served me well for several months!

Besides, I did not notice the working of the webcam during installation.
I wonder how the webcam is connected to the system: the command

lspci

yields nothing, and the command

lsusb

only shows usb 2.0 root hubs, a Standard Microsystems Corp something
and a Micro Star International something.

Maybe one of these is the webcam? or the wifi?

Thank you Leon Romanowski for the information about the speakers which
work with the latest kernel.
I will try of course, if I can install this new kernel. To install it,
is it necessary to make some change to the file

/etc/apt/sources.list?

Thank you Olivert Grawert for the information about Unity. I did not
recognize the Gnome office I am accustomed to
(it is the office environment I have on my main computer, which runs
Debian), and I thought it was the new version of Gnome.

Sincerely,

C.-M. M.

thats not gnome but unity [1], you can still install the gnome (3.1 i
think) desktop from the archive and use it, the launcher on the left (as
well as the panel and indicators) are plain unity bits.

One of them should be the webcam...

I've experienced the same issue on one of my ac100s. One day,
the webcam has silently disappeared from my USB devices. It never
came back

I assume it's an hardware error somewhere, may be a faulty connector.
As it's located right near the wifi module which is known to be sensible to
finger pressure, it's not an irealistic possibility :p.

I didn't take time to investigate the issue (it's only my dev machine, not the
one I daily use).

Gilles.

mmh, I sometimes lose the 3G modem (haven't check the webcam) here. Beside hw
issues,
it could also be related to some usb host paramters (e.g. xcvr_setup in
utmi_phy_config). Unfortunately, this is a bit hard to reproduce. If someone
has
contant issues with that, I can prep a patch to test ...

The installation was successful! Thanks to all the developers who made
 this possible.

Previously I used phh's latest with nilfs2, installed by following

It seems that sound (on headphones only up to now) and video are much
 better and
much more stable with the new installation. The only thing
which worked better with the old installation is the webcam:
cheese worked with phh's latest, and I did not
succeed to make it work with oneiric.

I have not yet tried the hdmi output.

I have installed lxde, which works very nicely and is much faster
than gnome, because I don't like the new look of gnome with this

 Good night and thanks again,

Everything should work a lot better on the new kernel and oneiric, but
good to hear my old modded version served you until now :)

On the subject of webcam, did you notice it working in the installer when
selecting your user-profile picture?
