I think it would be most convenient to build a single oscillator for
all audio boards.

I will pay more attention to what you reported me. Among many tests,
only on one occasion the problem was corrected after reinstall the
battery CR2032 and recharge the BIOS Setup, but I do not know if that
was due to chance or if that's causality. Unfortunately now I'm not
getting the problem from happening again to better detect their cause :)

I bought it used and see it in very good condition. I cleaned it with

Re: [Alsa-user] Mutiple soundcards

2016-05-30 Thread José Luis Artuch
Hi Felix, thank you.
--
It used to be pretty typical for PCI slots to share IRQs with onboard
devices. Take the sound out of slot three and put something else there,
and
most likely the something else will also share IRQ 17. Whether in newer
motherboards anything might have changed regarding IRQ sharing I have no
idea.
--
I do not know if the problem can be originated in the fact of having the
same irq. In the BIOS Setup I did not find any option to change irqs.
Maybe an option could be to try to update the BIOS, if an update is
available. This PC is an IBM ThinkCentre Intel Celeron 2.66GHz.

[Alsa-user] Mutiple soundcards

2016-05-30 Thread José Luis Artuch
Hello,

I installed 3 identical PCI soundcards in a PC which also has your
onboard sound card.

Running lspci -vmm I can see all 4 soundcards:
...
Slot: 00:1f.5
Class: Multimedia audio controller
Vendor: Intel Corporation
Device: 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller
SVendor:IBM
SDevice:Device 02c7
Rev:02

Slot: 03:00.0
Class: Multimedia audio controller
Vendor: Avance Logic Inc.
Device: ALS4000 Audio Chipset
SVendor:Avance Logic Inc.
SDevice:ALS4000 Audio Chipset

Slot: 03:01.0
Class: Multimedia audio controller
Vendor: Avance Logic Inc.
Device: ALS4000 Audio Chipset
SVendor:Avance Logic Inc.
SDevice:ALS4000 Audio Chipset

Slot: 03:02.0
Class: Multimedia audio controller
Vendor: Avance Logic Inc.
Device: ALS4000 Audio Chipset
SVendor:Avance Logic Inc.
SDevice:ALS4000 Audio Chipset
...

But aplay -l shows only 3 soundcards, just the soundcard of the third
slot is not shown:
 List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 0: ICH5 [Intel ICH5], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel ICH5]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: ICH5 [Intel ICH5], device 4: Intel ICH - IEC958 [Intel ICH5 -
IEC958]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: ALS4000 [Avance Logic ALS4000], device 0: ALS4000 DSP []
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 2: ALS4000_1 [Avance Logic ALS4000], device 0: ALS4000 DSP []
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

The same with cat /proc/asound/cards:
 0 [ICH5 ]: ICH4 - Intel ICH5
  Intel ICH5 with AD1981B at irq 17
 1 [ALS4000]: ALS4000 - Avance Logic ALS4000
  Avance Logic ALS4000 at 0x2000, irq 21
 2 [ALS4000_1 ]: ALS4000 - Avance Logic ALS4000
  Avance Logic ALS4000 at 0x2080, irq 22

Sometime 4 soundcards were shown:
cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [ICH5 ]: ICH4 - Intel ICH5
  Intel ICH5 with AD1981B at irq 17
 1 [ALS4000]: ALS4000 - Avance Logic ALS4000
  Avance Logic ALS4000 at 0x2000, irq 21
 2 [ALS4000_1 ]: ALS4000 - Avance Logic ALS4000
  Avance Logic ALS4000 at 0x2080, irq 22
 3 [ALS4000_2 ]: ALS4000 - Avance Logic ALS4000
  Avance Logic ALS4000 at 0x2400, irq 17

But then the problem reoccurred ...

Is it correct that some soundcards have the same irq (onboard and third
slot, irq 17) ?.
After, with udev rules I have given different names to each soundcard,
but it is not a solution.
I would appreciate help on this matter.
José Luis

Thank you very much Robert. The OS is Debian GNU/Linux 8.
I loaded the data from modprobe:
modprobe snd-aloop enable=1,1,1,1 index=10,11,12,13
id=lbuser1,lbuser2,lbuser3,lbuser4
With cat /proc/asound/cards I see that lbuser1 replaces Loopback,
lbuser2 replaces Loopback_1, lbuser3 replaces Loopback_2, lbuser4
replaces Lopback_3.
Now the question is if at every startup can be assigned always lbuser1
to card_0, lbuser2 to card_1, lbuser3 to card_2, lbuser4 to card_3, for
example editing the asound.conf file. I want to capture the sound played
in each real card, always with the same virtual card.
I do not experienced enough with snd-aloop on Debian 7, also I'm always
doing these tests without graphical environment.
Greetings.

[Alsa-user] snd-aloop with multiple identical sound cards

2016-04-29 Thread José Luis Artuch
Hi,
I fixed the names of each real sound card (card_0, card_1, card_2, ...).
Now, loading the snd-aloop module for all real sound cards, virtual
sound cards Loopback (Loopback, Loopback_1, Loopback_2, ...) are
created. How I can fix always the same virtual sound card Loopback for
each real sound card ?.
Thanks.

Re: [Alsa-user] combine usb microphones (joop)

2016-04-19 Thread José Luis Artuch
In addition, if the microphones have identical sound cards, you can
identify them according to the USB port where they are connected using
udev rules:
http://alsa.opensrc.org/Udev
A working example:

3.2 is a really old kernel. I would definitely try a newer one.

One thing you could try that is pretty straightforward is a live CD
image of something like Ubuntu 14.10 which would get you a newer
kernel to try without messing with your installation.

Or you could try a newer kernel on your install.

Thanks again.
I will try another kernel. It is a good idea to try a live CD !
I will report the results.

I have run arecord -D plughw:1,0 -c 2 -r 48000 | aplay. How do you
stop it ?. Is arecord -D plughw:1,0 -c 2 -r 48000 | aplay correct?. I
ask you it because to stop arecord -D plughw:1,0 -c 2 -r 48000 | aplay
I've tried Ctrl z, but to return everything to the beginning I need to
reload alsa (as root) with alsa force-reload.
You can try to reload alsa (as root) with alsa force-reload instead of
restarting the whole system.

the console (usb-robot-slave), or as part of some rapidly prototyped
driver in a language like perl or Python. For a really bad example of
how you can do that, it comes with a program (usb-robot-master) that
translates traces of MS-Windows driver actions into usb-robot-slave
commands, so you can get your device to do whatever MS-Windows did to
it. You can get these traces from sniffusb version 0.1, which is
linked to from the usb-robot homepage.

At the moment only control and bulk transfers are supported.

Note that to communicate usefully with USB devices you need to be the
 superuser (root).

 Starting up
 ===

 Linux 2.4.2:

First load your USB kernel driver. See USB docs for more help.
Don't forget to mount the /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs filesystem.

 *BSD:

Does it work at all? Send mail!

 Running the slave directly
 ==

 # ./usb-robot-slave product=0x0099 vendor=0x05da

This will search the USB buses for the specified device and open its
/proc/bus/usb filehandle (via libusb). Now the command prompt will pop
 up.

To see the commands you can use, type help and press return.

 Running the master
 ==

The (unpolished) usb-robot-master perl script can be used to control
the usb-robot-slave, using debuglogs produced from sniffusb in
 conjunction with dbgview.

 Perhaps perl-5.6.0 is required. I don't know.

The following example acts on turnon.log then scansuite.log, using
them to control a device with specified product and vendor id.

 # ./usb-robot-master --session-type=interactive --product=0x99 --vendor=0x5da\
/mnt/d/temp/turnon.log

2012-11-11 Thread José Luis Artuch
Paul, arecord will stop if there is not any audio level on the
corresponding input. Open alsamixer and set the level of the correct
input.
After that level is correct, run alsactl store 0 to fix.

this works over and over and over perfectly:
 arecord -D plughw:1,0 -c 2 -r 48000 | aplay

however, when I do either of:

 mplayer device=/dev/video0 ALSA_CARD=1 ALSA_PCM_CARD=0 tv://
 or
 vlc v4l2:// --v4l2-standard=NTSC --input-slave=alsa://hw:1,0
 --v4l2-width=640 --v4l2-height=480 --aspect-ratio=4:3

 then
 arecord -D plughw:1,0 -c 2 -r 48000 | aplay
 stops working.
Additionally, I never heard any sound from the capture device.

  Hi!

I searched the list, but didn't find closely relevant topic. It
could be udev related, since my errors are similar to these:

  http://linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2009-January/031362.html

OTOH, I get audio with ffmpeg, a path that I also follow:

  http://ffmpeg.org/pipermail/ffmpeg-user/2012-November/010896.html

(pls. find in the latter link my mencoder lines and profile
entries that don't get the sound right, so I don't cross post!)

It is obviously alsa issue, with mencoder. I could post the
console output here. But it doesn't show errors.

It just doesn't capture the sound. So, I'll try and post the
relevant output of diverse command, to be able to pinpoint the
  problem.

Also, I made a screencast of my alsa problem. Here:

[Alsa-user] Ices2 and arecord does not work at the same time

2012-01-15 Thread José Luis Artuch
Hello !!

In one PC I have running Debian GNU/Linux (Lenny) with Icecast2 like
server and Ices2 like source, all without GUI.

When I try to record with arecord the following message appears:

ALSA lib pcm_dsnoop.c:574:(snd_pcm_dsnoop_open) unable to open slave
arecord: main:564: audio open error: Dispositivo o recurso ocupado

If I stop Ices2 with /etc/init.d/ices2 stop, then arecord works very
well.

How I can get that ices2 and arecord work at the same time ?.
Thank you in advance !!
