  TJ: Is it possible to make AA window and Formula
  Editor also tabs (or option to make them tabs)?
  Especially Formula Editor. Every time I maximize
  it, it just cover the whole screen. It would be nice to make it a tab so it is
  easier to switch back and forward between two editor windows.

 Everybody,Yes basically it does
what you said.But...
  right now it does not make too much sense (if any) because
you don't see the reason why it was added.
In the future releases AB will open not only chart document windows
but also other types of documents and then it will
make perfect sense to have these tabs.
If you noticed this
released/http://www.amibroker.com/devlog/2006/10/11/amibroker-
4860-beta-released/  it says:  Promised new
Account Manager functionality is still under development
and has been hidden/disabled in this release and it will appear
 later in one of upcoming beta versions.
  These tabs are just the extra feature that will used by
new features that are now HIDDEN from your eyes, because
they are still under development. As I wrote in one of
previous e-mails, this beta was released in-the-middle of
development process because of people waiting for built-in
FFT function. So I had to hide some in-development functionality but
did not hide those tabs because I was thinking
 that they are pretty common ( at least among users of by today's
 modernbrowsers like Firefox or Opera) and I was thinking that
 they won't  confuse anyone.
  So for time being - just forget that they exists.

Hi Tomasz,

Yes, I mis-wrote when I said the database disappears. It does not,
of course. But I had a heck of a time (finally successful) getting
the default database to show a chart upon opening. Using Window-New,
which I had tried several times, produces a chart of course, but
every time I shut down AB and re-opened it, nothing showing.

It has something to do with the default layout I guess, but as I
wrote I save everything upon exit, so maybe the problem was that I
exited with no chart showing, and that became a new default layout?

I didn't like this experience. ^_^ (And please, no more vertical
screen real estate snatching.)

 Hi Tomasz,

 If I do this: close the LAST (originally the only) tab, nothing is
 saved. The database disappears, and reopening the program comes up
 with an empty program, at which time I have to load a layout.

 Surely this cannot be by design, and I have preferences to save
 *everything* on exit.

After Window-New, to keep this permanent you would
need to manually save it as default layout.

[amibroker] Nested if-statements

2006-10-12 Thread carlacash26
Hi!

I have a system that has a few indicators. I want to code this in
amibroker.

I want a buy signal when all of the indicators acts in a specific way.

When one of my indicators acts the way i like a variabel is set
to true (or 1), when all of these are true, i want the buy signal.

So when a,b,c, or d are == 1 then give buy signal.
Is this done like this with nested if-statements?

if (a == 1){
 if (b == 1){
  if (c == 1){
   if (d == 1){

 BUY-SIGNAL

  }
}
  }

hi,

you can do it like that but in Amibroker you can
also work with arrays. So for instance:

constraint1 = ...;
constraint2 = ...;

constraint1 and 2 are both arrays that contain "0"
and "1".

allconstraints = constraint1 AND
constraint2;

now allconstraints is an array that carries the
values 0 when only 1 or neither constraint applies and it carries 1 when both
constraints apply,

So then:

Buy = allconstraints;

Since the
suggestions are flying fast and furious, how about the option of Renaming the
new window tabs just like you can with the Pane Tabs along the bottom.
Right click and type in your own custom name. If later, this conflicts
with new Document handling schemes, internally code some Tabs renameable and
others fixed.

Re: [amibroker] Rename Window Tabs

2006-10-12 Thread Mark H

One more improvement I see compared to all the
popular tabbed browser is making the tabs automatically resizable. The tab width
would automatically reduce when more tabs are opened so that more tabs can be
seen. The currently implementation just hide the tabs when about 5 has been
opened.

[amibroker] Unstable??

2006-10-12 Thread Ken Close

Hmmm. I really
got into the tabs with different symbols, time periods (intraday), etc.
Now, 1/2 hour in, the program is consistently locking up. End Task,
restart, lockup. End Task, restart, lockup. Numerous times to not seem a
coincidence. Have been running QT and RT AB for weeks and weeks now
without incident, including all day yesterday with latest version. Only
difference this morning was multiple window tabs open.

I had saved a bunch
(6) tabs in the Default layout, and this last time, I was able to call up
another layout without tabs. So far, no lockup.

anyone else see this
on intraday data? I am feeding the data with QuoteTracker if that makes a
difference.

Re: [amibroker] Unstable??

2006-10-12 Thread Tomasz Janeczko

Ken,

You need to understand that you are not opening TABS. You are
opening CHARTS.
Each chart you open consumes computer resources.
And if you are opening lots of them and you work in real time
it means that all those extra
charts you have opened need to be refreshed when new data come
in.

And when you are working with QuoteTracker - yes it makes big
difference because
QuoteTracker link is HTTP (web based) which means that data
are transmitted in plain
web protocol which is slow. And if you do that for lots of
symbols it may lock up your machine.

So do not open extra charts/tabs just for fun. Especially when
you work with QT as data source.
Open them only when you really need them.
There is no need to put all the stuff open all the time. It is
definitely *not* good idea to
open extra charts just for different symbols/time frames when
you can have the same effect
by simply switching the symbol - consuming less
resources.

  Hmmm. I
  really got into the tabs with different symbols, time periods (intraday),
  etc. Now, 1/2 hour in, the program is consistently locking up. End
  Task, restart, lockup. End Task, restart, lockup. Numerous times to not
  seem a coincidence. Have been running QT and RT AB for weeks and weeks
  now without incident, including all day yesterday with latest version. Only
  difference this morning was multiple window tabs open.

  I had saved a
  bunch (6) tabs in the Default layout, and this last time, I was able to call
  up another layout without tabs. So far, no lockup.

  anyone else see
  this on intraday data? I am feeding the data with QuoteTracker if that
  makes a difference.

Hi,

take a look at the following code, it generates only a
buy if the previous high + 1% will be reached and it will be closed when the low
reaches the previous low -1%
What condition do you use ?

BuyStop
= Ref(H,-1)*1.01;
//the
formula for Buy stop level;
SellStop =
Ref(L,-1)*0.99;
//the formula
for Sell stop level;

// if anytime
during the day prices rise above buystop level (highbuystop)

// the buy
order takes place (at buystop or low whichever is higher)
Buy =
Cross( High, BuyStop ) ;

// if anytime
during the day prices fall below sellprice level ( low sellstop
)
// the sell
order takes place (at sellstop or high whichever is lower)
Sell =
Cross( SellPrice,
SellStop);

BuyPrice =
Max( BuyStop,
Low ); // make sure
buy price not less than Low
SellPrice =
Min( SellStop,
High ); // make
sure sell price not greater than High

 I understand how the logic of the buystop works
as currently structured.
If the buystop price is not exceeded during the day
(High not greaterthan
buystop) than the backtester will give me the Low of the
day as my filled
price.

 I have tried any number of logic combinations and
can not achieve the
following.

 If the high of the day is not greater than
buystop than I want NO trade to
occur. For the life of me, I can not achieve a
logic combination that
cancels the buy if this occurs. I can set the
price filled to be the days
open, high, low or close, but I can not cancel the
buy.

 Any coding help would be greatly
appreciated.

What MDI is and how tabs relate to it. was: Re: [amibroker] Rename Window Tabs

2006-10-12 Thread Tomasz Janeczko

No, you are completely missing the point about what MDI tabs
are and how documents are handled.

AmiBroker is multiple document interface (MDI) application. It
was ALWAYS like that !
Nothing changed in 4.86 in this area. To learn what MDI
is read that:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_document_interface
(

Now all those tabs are just an ADDITIONAL way to switch
opendocuments
(in addition to Window- menu where the list of open
documents is also available).

Previously to switch the documents you would need to use
Window menu.
Now in addition to that you can use tabs. But this is just
convenience feature.
(more info at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabbed_Document_Interface)

You need to understand that these are not "user definable
tabs" like chart sheets below.
These tabs are basically DOCUMENT WINDOW SWITCHER (like
Windows TASK BAR in the bottom).

And it works exactly using the same idea as Windows TASK
BAR

UsingWindows TASK BAR:

you OPEN THE APPLICATION - a new button in the task bar
appears
- and you can switch BETWEEN open applications using TASK BAR
buttons.

- you can not rename the button because it represents
APPLICATION NAME.

- and you need to be careful with opening too many
applications for fun because
all open applications consume system resources

Now using AmiBroker MDI tabs:

you OPEN THE DOCUMENT (chart) - a new button (tab)
appears
- you can switch between open applications usign buttons
(TABS)

- you can not rename the button because it represents DOCUMENT
NAME

- and you need to be careful with opening too many documents
for fun because
all open documents consume system
resources

The wikipedia links describing TDI / MDI are somewhat outdated
and AmiBroker actually combines
advantages of BOTH TDI and MDI approaches (for example you can
tile windowsin AB's TDI)

  Since the
  suggestions are flying fast and furious, how about the option of Renaming the
  new window tabs just like you can with the Pane Tabs along the bottom.
  Right click and type in your own custom name. If later, this conflicts
  with new Document handling schemes, internally code some Tabs renameable and
  others fixed.

Hello,

Yes it uses last value. But if you are after finding cycles
you have to assume anyway that given cycle will last at least a bit,
without such assumption there are no cycles :-)
So last value from say one year back should work forward.

 Hello,

 Here are few words about new FFT function.
 It requires AmiBroker 4.86 BETA to run.
 http://www.amibroker.com/devlog/2006/10/11/amibroker-4860-beta-
 released/
 ===

 FFT( array, len = 0 )

 performs FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) on last 'len' bars of the
 array, if len is set to zero, then FFT is performed
 on entire array. len parameter must be even.

 Result:

 function returns array which holds FFT bins for first 'len' bars.
 There are len/2 FFT complex bins returned,
 where bin is a pair of numbers (complex number): first is real part
 of the complex number and second number
 is the imaginary part of the complex number.

 result = FFT( array, 256 );

 where:
 0th bin (result[0] and result[1]) represents DC component,
 1st bin (result[1 ] and result[2]) represents real and imaginary
 parts of lowest frequency range
 and so on upto result[ len - 2 ] and result[ len - 1 ]

 remaining elements of the array are set to zero.

 FFT bins are complex numbers and do not represent real amplitude
 and phase. To obtain amplitude and
 phase from bins you need to convert inside the formula. The
 following code snipplet does that:

 ffc = FFT(data,Len);
 for( i = 0; i  Len - 1; i = i + 2 )
 {
amp[ i ] = amp[ i + 1 ] = sqrt(ffc[ i ]^ 2  +  ffc[ i + 1 ]
 ^2);
phase[ i ] = phase[ i + 1 ] = atan2( ffc[ i + 1], ffc[ i ] );
 }

 IMPORTANT note: input array for FFT must NOT contain any Null
 values. Use Nz() function to convert Nulls to zeros
 if you are not sure that input array is free from nulls.

 Below is example code showing how to use new FFT function in AFL.

 SetBarsRequired(10,10);

 Len = Param(FFT Length, 1024, 64, 1, 10 );

 Len = Min( Len, BarCount );

 x = BarIndex();
 x1 = x - BarCount + Len;

 input = C;
 a = LastValue( LinRegIntercept( input, Len - 1 ) );
 b = LastValue( LinRegSlope( input, Len - 1 ) );

 Lr = a + b * x1;

 data = input - Lr;// de-trending

 ffc = FFT(data,Len);

 for( i = 0; i  Len - 1; i = i + 2 )
 {
   amp[ i ] = amp[ i + 1 ] = sqrt(ffc[ i ]^ 2  +  ffc[ i + 1 ]^2);
   phase[ i ] = phase[ i + 1 ] = atan2( ffc[ i + 1], ffc[ i ] );
 }

 auto = ParamToggle(Auto dominant cycle, No|Yes, 1 );
 sbar = Param( Which FFT bin, 1, 0, 50 );

 skipbin1 = ParamToggle(Skip 1st FFT bin, No|Yes, 1 );

 if( auto )
 {
   sbar = int( LastValue(ValueWhen( amp == LastValue(Highest( IIf(
 skipbin1 AND x  4, 0 , amp ) )), x / 2 )) );
 }

 fv = Status(firstvisiblebar);

 thisbar = Ref( int(x/2) == sbar, -fv);
 Plot( Ref(amp,-fv),amplitude (bin  + Ref( int(x/2), -fv ) +),
 IIf( thisbar, colorRed, colorBlack ),styleArea);

 Plot( IIf( BarCount - BarIndex() Len, data, Null ) , de-trended
 input (+Len+ bars), colorOrange, styleLeftAxisScale );
 Plot( cos( phase[ sbar * 2 ] + (sbar) * x1 * 2 * 3.1415926 /
 Len ), dominant cycle + Len/(sbar) + ( + sbar +  bin) bars,
 colorBlue, styleOwnScale );

Most of us who have read Hurst's writtings are well aware of
the
general principles involved in PM ... However, there are
several
points that should be mentioned or questioned with regards to
   your
comments ...

1. It is clear from Hurst's course material that PM and the
techniques therein were, in his mind, a fairly simplistic view
   of how
he analyzed price and that the curvelinear trendlines were
only
   a
means for the analyst to discover the cyclic forces in play
i.e.
   a
possible first step in developing a full phasing Analysis (
   FPA ) and
using FLD's, VTL's and other techniques ...
2. As far as the tools and the math involved in the later
   chapters
and appendicies it is also clear that Hurst not only employed
   the
techniques therein but other more sophisticated techniques
that
   he
didn't really write much about in PM. Clues to this can be
seen
   in
the bibliography.
3. While PC's and AB didn't exist in 1970, mainframes and
mini's
   did
and if you recall we had already managed to get to the moon
and
   back
mostly by use of the slide rule.
4. The curvelinear bands that Hurst's uses are in essence n
   period
centered moving averages with percentage or standard deviation
   bands
around them which by their nature can not be computed closer
   than n /
2 bars prior to the current bar. As such one must have some
technique for extrapolating those bands to at least the
current
   bar
and preferably beyond. Without this capability one would have
already experienced half the move in the opposite direction
when
   the
CMA catches up.

My question then is ... If you are using curvelinear bands of
   one
sort or another inside AB how are you constructing the bands
and
   what
methodologies are you using to extrapolate them ?

not
   using
a PC. I've tried to get the original version of the book but
   only got
the reprinted version from 2000. Frankly I have the feeling
that
Chapter 11 as well as the Appendices have been added at the
time
   of
the reprint. This to give you my opinion how I see the book.
It
   is an
attempt to work with forecasted envelopes. And a good one ...

 For me the practical 'red line' for using the Hurst
principle
   is as
I told you already rather simple. Try to construct two trading
   bands.
A long and a short period trading band. Hurst tells you how to
   do
that with pencil and paper. The software today does it
   automatically
for you. As soon as the short band is above the long one and
the
price above the short band you will have an 'overbought'
   situation.
When the short band falls below the long band and the price is
   below
the short band you have an 'oversold' situation. The
combination
   of
these 'overbought' and 'oversold' situations with a falling
   resp.
rising long trend will give you the SELL and BUY signals. I am
   using
Hurst with weekly views and indexes and must say that the
   results are
very good ...

   Here's the Hurst DE AFL I previously mentioned I would post ...

   It INCLUDES PolyFit.AFL, which you can get at the AB library, in
 order to do the extrapolations.

   Functionality

   - You can plot up to 5 lengths ... This can be increased with
 the inclusion of one or two statements if desired.

   - Bands at the moment are percentage oriented, but it would be
 relatively simple to allow them to be based on StDev as well.

   - Always works up to the bar YOU select by creating CMA's ( my
 version, slightly modified for additional smoothness ) up to n/2
 bars ( Where n in the CMA Length ) prior and then extrapolating from
 that point on.

   - Extrapolation will always be at least to the bar you selected
 and can be extended beyond that by parameter selection.

   - Band color change ( Dark to Light ) and Down / Up triangles
 show where CMA's end and Extrapolation begins.

   - The extrapolation portion of any given band can of course
 change after the fact for any given bar but once a CMA for a
 particular bar has been calculated it is in essence frozen from that
 point forward.

   There is then NO forward looking of this AFL ... It does however
 purposely offset arrays so that it can plot beyond the last bar in
 the chart.

   See attached macro detailed views and afl ...

   ... ... ...

RE: [amibroker] ExRem and Short/Cover

2006-10-12 Thread Terry
It doesn't matter if Sell = Short, or not. All the function does is
remove redundant signals AFTER Buy/Sell/Short/Cover has been processed.
This way you can PlotShapes using Buy/Sell/Short/Cover and you will only
see the signals you would take.

Buy  = ExRem(Buy,Sell); //Removes redundant Buy signals
Sell = ExRem(Sell,Buy); //Removes redundant Sell signals.
Do the same for Short,Cover

[amibroker] Re: ExRem and Short/Cover

2006-10-12 Thread Charles J. Dudek
Terry, thanks for the reply. In my code I'm using:

Sell=ExRem(Sell,Buy);
Buy=ExRem(Buy,Sell);
Cover=ExRem(Cover,Short);
Short=ExRem(Short,Cover);

The problem I'm having is generating a series of signals like sell,
short, sell, short, without a previous buy or cover signal and I don't
understand how that could happen. I've tried different combinations
like exrem(Buy,sell+cover), for example, and I'm still getting signals
that don't make sense. Any idea how to fix that or are there any
programs that include different short/cover signals that I could copy?

Signals are just signals, that have a bar complying with your conditions. You will get results of these in a scan and on the chart, but a backtest will ignore them.One way to remove surplus signals is to use the equity function, just add this before your plot statements, and after the trade conditions.

 I am not sure if the following is among the planned enhancements:

  showing embedded web browser among these new tabs so that we can
  directly access multiple webpages for a single ticker.

  Today, this is done via Profile window, but can access only one cite.

  Yes basically it does what you said.

  But...

  right now it does not make too much sense (if any) because you don't
  see the reason why it was added.
  In the future releases AB will open not only chart document windows
  but also other types of documents
  and then it will make perfect sense to have these tabs.

  If you noticed this

http://www.amibroker.com/devlog/2006/10/11/amibroker-4860-beta-released/
  it says:
  Promised new Account Manager functionality is still under
  development and has been hidden/disabled in this release and it will
  appear later in one of upcoming beta versions.

  These tabs are just the extra feature that will used by new features
  that are now HIDDEN from your eyes, because they are still
  under development. As I wrote in one of previous e-mails, this beta
  was released in-the-middle of development process because
  of people waiting for built-in FFT function. So I had to hide some
  in-development functionality but did not hide those tabs because I was
  thinking
  that they are pretty common ( at least among users of by today's
  modern browsers like Firefox or Opera) and I was thinking that
they won't
  confuse anyone.

  So for time being - just forget that they exists.

[amibroker] Options

2006-10-12 Thread MacProgrammer
I'm curious. Does anyone here have access to
options history data?

Can someone tell me what the Ask price was for the
stock SIGM for the October 17.50 call two days ago.
Here's the options symbol and date.

MQNJW

10 OCTOBER 2006

I was also wondering. Does AmiBroker have the ability
to chart options prices. If so, where would the data
feed come from? It sounds like a really cool feature if
AmiBroker could do it.

Thank you,

Ryan Daniel

 Here's the Hurst DE AFL I previously mentioned I would post ...

 It INCLUDES PolyFit.AFL, which you can get at the AB library, in
order to do
 the extrapolations.

 Functionality

 - You can plot up to 5 lengths ... This can be increased with the
inclusion
 of one or two statements if desired.

 - Bands at the moment are percentage oriented, but it would be
relatively
 simple to allow them to be based on StDev as well.

 - Always works up to the bar YOU select by creating CMA's ( my
version,
 slightly modified for additional smoothness ) up to n/2 bars (
Where n in
 the CMA Length ) prior and then extrapolating from that point on.

 - Extrapolation will always be at least to the bar you selected and
can be
 extended beyond that by parameter selection.

 - Band color change ( Dark to Light ) and Down / Up triangles show
where
 CMA's end and Extrapolation begins.

 - The extrapolation portion of any given band can of course change
after the
 fact for any given bar but once a CMA for a particular bar has been
 calculated it is in essence frozen from that point forward.

 There is then NO forward looking of this AFL ... It does however
purposely
 offset arrays so that it can plot beyond the last bar in the chart.

 See attached macro detailed views and afl ...

 ... ... ...

[amibroker] Re: Range Bars

2006-10-12 Thread dclayw
I too am very keen to see Range Bars implemented in Amibroker. There
has already been a couple of suggestions opened in the the AmiBroker
Feedback Centre about this, (see #284 and #201). Range Bars, in my
view, are THE best way to eliminate noise in any market.

As an example of what Range Bars actually are, have a look at their
implementation in Fibonacci Trader in this link:

http://www.fibonaccitrader.com/HELP40/Range%20Bar/default.htm

Note that Range Bars are independent of time, the bar only closes
when the range has completed. Note also that (by definition) Range
Bars are all the same length, and properly implemented Range Bars do
not have any gaps.

Now there is no way I am going to use Fibonacci Trader over
Amibroker. Fibonacci Trader is about 5 or 6 times more expensive and
overall does not come close to AmiBroker in terms of ease of use and
functionality. Everyone has their own view as to what extra
functionality they would like to see added to certain software but I
believe many people would find Range Bars extremely useful.

Has anyone had a go at implementing Range Bars in Amibroker. I'm not
even sure it would be possble. Anyway, I think the best way would to
have them built into the Amibroker s/w.

Hello John,

I came out of weekly hibernation on account of you being a gentleman
and a scholar.

Here is a small suite that fits nicely with Prakash's example.
I modified his code to make it consistent with my style (I prefer
bar charts to candlestick and generally overlay for this type of

I haven't got around to doing the troughs.
They are the introductory modules for some higher level indicators

I hope they offer some help or stimulate some ideas that lead to
resolutions for you.

Re: [amibroker] Re: Rank a list in order

2006-10-12 Thread Graham

Assuming you need to sort them for each bar. You can code ranking to do this, but it does take a lot of time as each symbol must be compared to every other symbol for every symbol and every barYou can Osaka plugin or code it yourself, some examples I believe are in the library for sorting on the last (or selected) bar only. Need to modify these for creating array of results.
You could always pre-run the sort and store the results in composite symbols.The easiest is to just allow psoitionscore to do the work for you, not exactly the same but is simpler.-- CheersGraham
