[amsat-bb] Alive and kicking on 12/28 1812z NA pass - Re: Re: ARISSat-1 Dead? - No, Sir!

2011-12-28 Thread Bruce
Just copied Arissat-1 including the English and Japanese messages, some details
on battery voltage, along with the SSTV transmission. Have some cleanup to do
on the wav file to get rid of the static before/after the transmissions
(currently 16 MB !!), but will post it (where should it go?)

Kind of scratchy but I was using an Arrow antenna indoors. Best copy is
probably the SSTV transmission.

CRAIG W1MSG ... Another good pass on the East Coast USA in FN42 ...
Downloaded two images and a really good long recording at 1822 UTC 59 degree
elevation ...

Craig - I have no idea how old you are chronologically. But I am in my
mid-50s, and I STILL get excited with these reports ...

Have you posted your images anywhere???

[amsat-bb] ARISSat-1

2011-12-28 Thread Carl Rimmer W8KRF
I wanted to let W6IHG that I did hear him through ARISSat-1 during my
1817 UTC pass. I have an audio recording of that pass. I believe I
also heard WB2OQQ. There was also a station sending SSTV through the
transponder but the station was not using Doppler. He went right out of
the bandpass. I tried to follow but could not.

I noticed that even though ARISSat-1 was in full sunlight, it went into
Low Power mode. I was able to get a pretty decent SSTV copy during that
pass, also. I am trying to determine what I am going to do when it
terminates. It has taken up a good portion of my operating since August
4th. HI HI.

There is another pass coming up in 5 mins (1951UTC). It will be a 13
degree pass so that should be pretty decent also.

Out of curiosity, what method is used to keep the International Space
Station from burning up?

I know that periodic boosts are done to raise the orbit. Is that done
with rocket engines built into the space station? If so, it seems that
storage and eventual reloading of the fuel would be difficult and high-risk.

Or is the ISS boosted using the engines of a docked vehicle? That seems
like it would have its own set of complications.

Hi,

60 day predictions on the Space-Track web site has ARISSat-1 object 37772  re

Based on the posts on this topic from  Nico, Roland and James, and my
calculations, I think we have a bit longer.
But only a few days.

Periodic reboosts are thus necessary every few months, usually undertaken by
a Progress cargo ship docked to the Russian segment, or an Orbiter when
docked to Destiny.
