[android-developers] too bad this forum is now useless due to spam

2017-03-01 Thread CasaDelGato
Sure would be nice if new users were moderated, as this forum is now
useless.

[android-developers] Is it possible to make a bluetooth connection with no user intervention?

2017-02-25 Thread CasaDelGato
I'm working on an app that will talk to certain pieces of hardware via
bluetooth.
The app will know the bluetooth password for each hardware device, and know
which one you are currently near.
So, even if the phone has never made a connection to a specific device
before, it is possible to have my app establish a bluetooth session without
prompting the user?
So the user could just press the "connect" button to establish the
bluetooth connection.

[android-developers] Animation stops timer (newbie alert!)

2010-12-23 Thread CasaDelGato
I'm starting to play with doing some simple animations.
I have one where I want a sound and animation to play every X seconds
after a button is pressed.
So I set it up like this:

private ScheduledThreadPoolExecutor threadRunner = new
ScheduledThreadPoolExecutor(
4);
private SoundPlayer mSoundPlayer = new SoundPlayer();
private ScheduledFutureSoundPlayer playerFuture = null;

private OnClickListener mClickButton = new OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(View v) {
Button button = (Button) findViewById(R.id.Button01);
if (playerFuture != null) {
button.setText(R.string.Button01);
playerFuture.cancel(false);
playerFuture = null;
} else {
button.setText(R.string.BtnStop);
playerFuture = (ScheduledFutureSoundPlayer)
threadRunner.scheduleAtFixedRate(mSoundPlayer,
0, 3000, TimeUnit.MILLISECONDS);
}
return;
}
};

private class SoundPlayer implements Runnable {
private MediaPlayer mPlayer;
private TextView testShape;
private Animation testAnimation;

public void run() {
if (mPlayer == null) {
mPlayer = MediaPlayer.create(getBaseContext(),
R.raw.ding);
testShape = (TextView)
findViewById(R.id.TextView02);
testAnimation =
AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(getBaseContext(),
R.anim.testanim);
}
mPlayer.start();
testShape.startAnimation(testAnimation);
return;
}
}

The problem is that the call to startAnimation seems to stop the
timer.
The sequence of events is:

Press Button (starts timer)
Sound plays once
Press Button (to stop the timer)
Animation plays once
Press Button (starts timer)
Sound  Animation play once
Press Button (stops timer)
nothing happens
Press Button (starts timer)
Sound  Animation play once
...

If I remove the call to testShape.startAnimation(), the timer runs,
and the sound plays every 3 seconds until the button is pressed again.

I must be doing something wrong with the animation, but I haven't been
able to figure out what.

[android-developers] Android SDK installer can't find Java

2010-12-19 Thread CasaDelGato
I'm running Win 7 x64. I just downloaded the latest Android SDK
installer - installer_r08-windows.exe
When I run it, it tells me that I don't have the Java SDK installed.
I do.
I even re-installed it to make sure.
It still can't find it.

Suggestions?

[android-developers] Calling Tomcat server API's from Android app

2010-09-03 Thread CasaDelGato
Okay, I'm rather new to this and haven't been able to find a how to.

We have a tomcat server running several Spring framework applications.
I've written code for a desktop Spring Framework app to use the API's
we've defined.  That's easy.

What I'm trying to figure out is how I can call those API's from an
Android app, since (obviously) it's not running as a Spring Framework
application.

Suggestions?

Client-Server - yes.
I want my Android app to call several of the server API's we've
created. These are provided by the .war file on the tomcat server.

 I wonder if we are on the same page with client-server. Anyway, maybe
 an example of an API you want to use would help clear things up.

Yeah, terminology problems can be fun. (NOT!)

We have Tomcat running on a server machine at the office.
It has a .war file generated that uses the Spring Framework.
One of the API's this app provides is something like:
   public List getCurrentData( DataSpecifier params);

In our Java Desktop app, I just ask the Spring framework for the
service object, and then I can do:
   List data = service.getCurrentData( whatdatatoget);
That makes the call to the server, and marshals the resulting data
back into the appropriate objects in my application.

I'm trying to figure out how to do the equivalent from the Android app
- since it is NOT running the Spring framework.

 That makes more sense. What is the class of the service object? I'd
 like to look at what Spring packages you are using.

 There are a few solutions that come to mind.

 1) Find a Dalvik JAR of the client library for that Spring service package.
 2) Add the necessary Spring client source code to your Android client project.
 3) Use the more loosely coupled XML/JSON/REST client-server architecture.

 Perhaps someone who has used Spring with Android can pipe in. However
 most of the client-server code I've run across for Android used option
 3) and some use SOAP or XMLRPC.

Thanks, that is helpful.
Our desktop app uses:

ApplicationContext context = new
ClassPathXmlApplicationContext(ApplicationContext-gui.xml);
AppService service = context.getBean( AppService);

All the specific class names are in the XML file.

If all else fails, we could include the relevant Spring source in our
app, but it is rather bulky.
I'm hoping we can go the XML/JSON/REST route.

[android-developers] onEditorAction and requestFocus()

2010-09-01 Thread CasaDelGato
I have a case where there is an EditText field the user enters
something into, then presses the Enter key.
In the onEditorAction() method, I do some validation, and if it's not
a valid input, I want to put the focus back on the EditText field.
I've found that using .requestFocus() won't work - probably because
the focus change happens after the call to onEditorAction() and
overrides my call to requestFocus().

So, how do I put the focus back on the EditText field, from within the
onEditorAction() callback?
