[android-developers] Google kernel config

2015-12-17 Thread Jerome Kim
Dear All, I have a question about Google base & recommend kernel config.
(ex. kernel/android/configs/android-base.cfg ..)

Some features are not defined at kernel kconfig files(because of
architecture specific or some other reason, maybe).
in this case can i ignore these configs?

[android-developers] Notification behaviors in watch chaged after Wear 1.4

2015-12-10 Thread atcle kim
In Wear 1.3.x(before November?), All notifications(which have no
LOCAL_ONLY|ON_GOING...flags) in smartphone is sended to smartwatch
immediately.

But I guess, after wear 1.4, only some notifications(maybe vib
notificaiton) are sended to watch immediately, and
the others are sended in piggiback fashion when vib notification or
notification remove or any watch apps synchronization happend.

Is it right? or only my problems?
It's seem very important changes but I can't find the details.

I'm using a LG Watch Urbane, Nexus 5.1
and tested on Wear 1.3.0.2369832(10/28), 1.4.0.2392391(11/07),
1.4.0.2462440.(12/04) in same environments.

Thank you.

[android-developers] Voice search in app, with Global Search false, going global as of 4.4.3

2014-06-16 Thread Kim
We are using the Search function inside our app, to initiate a search on
our server.
As of 4.4.3, the search still works fine when inputting the search term in
the Search Dialog using the Android keyboard, but when using Voice search,
it is apparently ignoring the Global Search parameter, because other apps
are opening in the background and pop up when the user backs out of our
app.
I just checked in on a device using 4.4.2 and it works properly. Tried it
on a (2nd Gen) Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 with 4.4.3 and it works incorrectly.

[android-developers] Google Play to multi - room audio systems (Sonos)

[android-developers] #wzm #bugjourvide

2013-12-01 Thread Kim Damevin
Hello ptit!

bisous

[android-developers] Support serbian language

2012-02-11 Thread Max Kim
Hello

I'm not sure I can ask this kind of question here

We are developing android phones and now we have to think about
supporing serbian language

when I visit the sdk site, for example
http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-4.0.3.html
I can see locales that sdk supports by default
it says, Serbian (sr_RS)

and I found that mostly sebian language string is in res/values-sr
for google native source(ex: ICS)

Recently I learned that 2 languages should be supported, Serbian
Cyrillic and Serbian Latin
and they should never be mixed.

they say Serbian Cyrillic is official and I can see that strings in
res/values-sr looks like Serbian Cyrillic.

so I guess sr_RS will be good locale for Serbian Cyrillic
then What locale should be used for Serbian Latin ?

Thanks in advance

[android-developers] at Android 4.0 'killBackgroundProcesses' method doesn't work

But on Android 4.0, doesn’t work

I used method ‘killBackgroundProcesses’
And I also tested ‘android.os.Process.killProcess’, but didn’t workd

So I have some question
1. I would like to know whether there is another way to kill.
2. Whether change Android life cycle
3. Whether developer can change application status(background)

Please answer

[android-developers] I need a application to control a bar of the pub

Is it possible?

[android-developers] Re: Density confusion

2011-11-18 Thread Kim
Thanks String. Although I agree that 169 should not be considered
HDPI, if you create an AVD with the same PPI and size, even though it
is a generic device, it comes back with the 1.5 factor. So, it is hard
to blame Samsung on this one.
Next time I create a big app, I will try to use default font sizes and
lay it out so that there are as few direct assignments of sizes of
objects as possible, as Mark was implying with using wrap_content.
Unfortunately, it got too tempting to make the app look as good as
possible!

 an outlier in the 7 tablet space, and makes life difficult for virtually
 any tablet apps.

 One thing that I have found helpful was to do my Large layouts in inches,
 rather than dp/dip. So, instead of 16dp (for example), you'd specify it as
 0.1in. I don't recommend doing this across all your layouts, but for the
 large category, it seems to work pretty well. And FWIW, I found better
 cross device support for in (inches) than mm (millimeters).

[android-developers] Re: Density confusion

2011-11-17 Thread Kim
Thanks Mark.
Further investigation is showing me that the Fire returns a densiy
(and scaledDensity) of 1.0 vs 1.5 for the Tab.Changing the ppi on the
simulator down to 164 from 169 gives the result that I am seeing on
the Fire, so it looks like Amazon is not doing anything wrong (other
than telling developers to be ready for the Fire by setting up an AVD
with 169 PPI, instead of 164).
I am using dp's or dip's everywhere and unless I am totally confused,
this is one case where using dp's is worse than using px's, because
the Tab is multiplying my dp's by 1.5 and the Fire is not, but they
are the same size screen with less than 3% variance in pixel density.
Hence, the views on my Fire are 2/3 the size of the same views on the
Tab.
My best guess is that the Fire is reporting a lower density because of
the extra rows of system info.
In any case, I still don't see how to work around this. If it was a 7
device with a pixel count of 600x400, all would be well with the 1.0
density factor :-).
Any suggestions?

 Device manufacturers choose what size and density bucket they go in.
 This is especially true for Amazon, which does not have to meet any of
 the compatibility tests, and therefore can largely do whatever they
 want.

  If so, is there a way to load the layout-large xml even though the
  Fire is on the Medium side?

 Not by the same name. I suggest that you come up with alternative
 layouts that are not quite so dependent on density. For example, do
 not use px as the unit of measure for dimensions.

[android-developers] Re: Density confusion

2011-11-17 Thread Kim
Thanks again Mark.
I agree, but the AVD, set up at the Tab's 169 density, also comes back
as high density, so the Tab seems to be consistent with Google's
guidelines (if the AVD is, that is).

I'll look into your suggestion.
Currently, I am not familiar with using wrap_content or
Android:layout_width. Do you cover them in any of your books?

 Your real problem is more with the Tab. ~160dpi should be medium
 density; you should be closer to 240dpi to get to high density.

 Using wrap_content, or android:layout_weight, or similar
 dynamic-sizing constructs should be consistent with other devices.

 wrap_content, used with android:layout_width or android:layout_height,
 says size me to be big enough to hold my content, but no bigger,
 where the definition of content varies by widget/container.

 android:layout_weight, used on children of LinearLayout, is used,
 among other things, to size things on a percentage basis:

 https://github.com/commonsguy/cw-android/tree/master/Containers/Linea...

 Similarly, you can affect widget size via rules on RelativeLayout
 (e.g., anchor a ListView to the top of the screen and to the top of a
 Button placed on the bottom of the screen).

[android-developers] Density confusion

2011-11-16 Thread Kim
I am testing our app on a Galaxy Tab 7 and a Kindle Fire. They both
have the same number of pixels and screen size, but the various views
on the Fire are two thirds the size of the same ones on the Tab.
I put in a couple of lines of code to capture the screen metrics and
find that the Tab is returning 1.5 for density and scaled density and
the Fire is returning 1.0. Also, for densityDpi, the Tab is returning
240 and the Fire is returning 160. This explains the different sized
views, but I don't understand why.
By the way, a simulator set up with 1024x600 pixes and 169 ppi looks
like the Tab.

I do see that the Fire reports back about 165 dpi, x and y, vs about
169 from the Tab. Are they just on either side of the border of Large
and Medium?
If so, is there a way to load the layout-large xml even though the
Fire is on the Medium side?

Answered one of my questions. I changed my simulated device to 164 ppi

[android-developers] Question about new large heap feature in HC

Hi all.

I'm wondering the difference about large heap between GB and HC.

I think that GB uses large heap feature for every app without any
attribute like android:largeheap.

but HC can create new heap with growth limit not Max heap size.

Can anyone explain the difference between GB and HC?

[android-developers] NullPointerException when checking for orientation

2011-07-07 Thread Kim
I am using the recommended method to check orientation when using
frames in 3.0 or higher:

if(((ViewByRoom.controls  CAN_DISPLAY_QUEUE) == CAN_DISPLAY_QUEUE)
 getActivity()
.findViewById(R.id.queueframe)==null) {

but sometimes I get a nullpointer exception on the line with
.findViewById(R.id.queueframe) = null in it.
I put it in a separate line from the getActivity() to make sure the
exception was referring to that line.

This code is in one fragment and is checking to see if the other
fragment exists (is in portrait mode).
Shouldn't that line just return false (causing the if statement to
fail)? it does work most of the time, only occasionally giving the
exception when I change orientation.

[android-developers] IllegalArgumentException: Invalid network type: 5544192

2011-07-03 Thread Kim
Our app controls our music server using webservice calls over the LAN.

Using ACRA, I received a report from a phone that included an Invalid
network type error. This resulted from the second line, below, that is
in our code:

ConnectivityManager connManager = (ConnectivityManager)
getSystemService(CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE);
if(!
connManager.getNetworkInfo(ConnectivityManager.TYPE_WIFI).isConnected())
{
//handler
}

Of course, this works on multiple test devices over multiple LANs
during testing. Any thoughts on why someone might get this error?

Thanks for any help.

IF your data is local you could go through the Poinds and use the

[android-developers] GPS Servise will not call requestLocationChange more than once

2011-06-21 Thread Kim Ras
Hi,
I have written a small app, that has a Activity to control and display
data, and a Service that Gets data from the GPS and send it to the
Activity.
Reason for this is that I like this to run even after the Activity is
exited..

I did a work around where I in the end of my Location Listener remove
the listener and redefined it.. But It is not nice and now it fails on
my HTC desire Z..

Has someoen encountered this?

What is the work around?

I have written a small Activity that do not uses a Service and that
works fine with the requestLocationChange only called at onCreate..

Please help

[android-developers] TextView showing tops of 2nd line when lines=1 or maxLines=1 in 3.0

2011-05-06 Thread Kim
I am using a ListView to create a specialized grid of images.
The xml for the list items is:
?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8?
LinearLayout
xmlns:android=http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android;
android:id=@+id/cover_art
android:layout_width=match_parent
android:layout_height=match_parent
android:orientation=horizontal
RelativeLayout
android:id=@+id/album0
android:layout_width=150dip
android:layout_height=170dip
android:layout_marginLeft=1dip
android:layout_marginTop=1dip
android:background=@drawable/cover_art_background
ImageButton
android:id=@+id/cover_art0
android:layout_marginTop=10dip
android:layout_width=130dip
android:layout_height=130dip
android:scaleType=fitCenter
android:src=@drawable/mce_logo_small
android:layout_centerHorizontal=true
/ImageButton
TextView
android:id=@+id/album_title0
android:layout_width=fill_parent
android:layout_height=wrap_content
android:maxLines=1
android:textColor=#000
android:textSize=14dip
android:textStyle=bold
android:gravity=center_horizontal
android:layout_below=@id/cover_art0
android:layout_centerHorizontal=true
/TextView
/RelativeLayout

followed by more RelativeLayouts to give a row of items.
As you can see, the TextView is set to maxLines=1. This works fine
in an Android 2.2 device (EVO), On the Xoom, the only 3.0 device I
have available, I am getting the very tops of what would be a second
line, if the text is long enough to go to a second line. I have tried
android:lines=1 also. The only way I can get rid of the vestigial
part of the second line is to change android:layout_height to
=20dip.
Sorry, I have not run it on the emulator. Don't ask!

[android-developers] Re: Careful, Dell Streak 7 ignores manifest setting for Orientation

2011-02-14 Thread Kim
Thanks Diane.
I see my thinking was wrong. I thought that in the manifest, the
designer can tell the OS that all of the activities are protrait and
should never get notified of a change in orientation outside of your
activity (except if implementing onConfigurationChanged).
I was hoping to tackle all of the complexities of orientation changes
at a later date, since the app itself is pretty complex already :-).

Just curious, I notice that if the user is in my app and the user hits
the home button, Android stays in the orientation the app was in.
Then, when the user turns the device, the orientation changes, but my
sleeping app does not go through the onDestroy()/onCreate() change
configuration callbacks.
Why would it not be similar, when the device is going to sleep? I.e.,
put the app to sleep, change configuration if it wants to (but don't
do the callbacks, since the app specifically said it does not support
landscape), and when it returns from sleep, discover that the app is
portrait only so change to portrait and restart app?

So, just to be sure I understand, there is really no safe way to
create an app that does not handle both orientations?

 My application (now in beta) does this,  bit it is being recreated
 with portrait
 mode -  so all the code recomputing screen coordinates in camera
 coordinates
 goes  haywire.  Not sure how to tackle this...

[android-developers] Careful, Dell Streak 7 ignores manifest setting for Orientation

2011-02-13 Thread Kim
I have found tht when the Streak 7 goes to sleep, the last thing it
does is issue an onDestroy() followed by an onCreate() to my app and
then pauses the cpu shortly later. A look at logcat shows me that this
is caused by Dell deciding to change the orientation before going to
sleep, apparently so that it wakes up in the landscape mode by
default. I have orientation fixed to portrait in my activities, but
the Streak is ignoring this.
Thought others might want to be aware of this.
If anyone has a way to over ride this, let me know. I tried Overriding
onConfigurationChange, but it is not being called when this happens.

Dell Steak 7 - When the device goes to sleep, orientation is forced to
landscape even when your activity is set to only portrait mode. This
causes your app to get the onDestroy() and onCreate() that result
from the change configuration. Overriding the onConfigurationChanged()
method does not work in this case.

[android-developers] Re: WiFi Error/Unable to connect in AVD

2011-02-02 Thread Kim

Thanks, Kostya. Your code got me looking in the right direction. I
went back to an earlier release that had been working and found two
things, both of which I had to change to get it to work:

1) In my startup code I changed while(!wifi.isWifiEnabled())
wifi.setWifiEnabled(true); to what I had in an earlier version, which
was while(!wifi.setWifiEnabled(true)); Both of these are meant to
turn on wifi if it is not on. The first does not work in the emulator,
but does work on real devices. The second does not work on the Samsung
Epic, but does work on a Galaxy Tab and the HTC devices I test with.

2) I had added a connectivity check (using ConnectivityManager) in the
newer version of the software that I had to remove for the emulator.

Once I made those changes it works fine in the emulator. I like your
idea of just having a boolean value that I can change when I am using
the emulator. Of course, I just have to remember to test the release
version to be sure I change the value before putting the app in the
Market :-)

Thanks!!

[android-developers] WiFi Error/Unable to connect in AVD

2011-02-01 Thread Kim
About a month ago I stopped being able to test my app on the AVDs
because it would not connect to WiFi. My app uses WiFi heavily.
When I open a 2.1 AVD and go into Settings|Wireless and Networks and
click on Wi-Fi it says Unable to connect to wifi. In a 2.2 AVD it just
says Error.
Additional info: I went to another computer that I was using last fall
for development and it has the same problem. I never updated it, so I
don't think it is related to HoneyComb, Samsung Tab add-in or any
other newer update. They are both on the same LAN.
I know I must be doing something dumb.
Any ideas? I have been doing all of my debugging on actual devices
lately, so I didn't think much of it, but now I would like to do some
screenshots.

 Uh, I think the beginning example in theMonkeyRunnerdocumentation is

 that as a bug.

 Your code listing doesn't show that you installed the package that
 contains the component you want to start. I assume that you either
 installed it before you ranMonkeyRunner, or that you left this out of
 your listing.

 The syntax of the component parameter is the same as that for an
 Android ComponentName: package_name/class_name. Package_name is the
 Android package name of the .apk containing your application. In your
 example, assuming that you're using the Note Pad sample app as your
 application, it's com.example.android.notepad. Class_name is the name
 of a class that Android can start; it's almost always an extension of
 android.app.Activity. For the Note Pad sample app, you would probably
 use com.example.android.notepad.NotesList.

 To ensure you're not doing something wrong, remember to install the
 package, then try using this code snippet:

 packagename = com.example.android.notepad
 classname = com.example.android.notepad.NotesList
 componentname = packagename + / + classname
 device.StartActivity(component=componentname)

[android-developers] Beginner questions

2010-12-10 Thread JY Kim
Hello.

I am beginner in android and my focus is on porting, but I think I
also need to learn to write application.
I have 2 questions

1. Is eclipse essential in android application writing?
Read through hello world program on android developer site, I thought
I shoud use eclipse.
Application was project based and I think I should use eclipse as if I
use Visual C++ when I write MFC program.

2. Should I install JDK 64 bit?
My windows is 64 bit but I installed 32bit JDK. When I tried compling
some program in command line, compiler couldn't find Java in 'Program
Files' directory because it was on 'Program Files(x86)'. when I linked
directory, it still could't find it.
Should I use JDK 64bit? I saw some program for 32 bit does not run on
64bit Windows.
If I should use 64bit JDK, I just need to reinstall JDK only? I saw
SDK is installed only after JDK is installed.

Please answer.
Thanks

MulticastSocket ms = new MulticastSocket(CTInit.UDPPort);
InetAddress UDPAddress = InetAddress.getByName(CTInit.UDPIPAddress);
ms.joinGroup(UDPAddress);
while (true) {
DatagramPacket dp = new DatagramPacket(buffer, buffer.length);
ms.receive(dp);
mcData = new String(dp.getData(),0,dp.getLength());

It is hanging at ms.receive(dp), waiting to receive a multicast.

Just for more info, the ProntoScript (JavaScript) implementation, that
is working, looks like this, with the same port numbers and
IPAddresses:

UDPPortNumber = Number(UDPResult.PortNumber);
UDPIPAddress = String(UDPResult.IPAddress);
update = new UDPSocket(UDPPortNumber);
update.mcastJoin(UDPIPAddress);

[android-developers] Re: javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Not trusted server certificate

2010-09-26 Thread Kim D.
Hi,

This means your server is not trusted.
The reason can be that the server certificate is not valid or self-
signed.

Either you have to bypass this by implementing your own certificate
validation (I would not do it except if you have no other choices) or
add the server certificate to your keystore (http://
download.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/api/java/security/KeyStore.html)
or make the server certificate signed by a a valid Certificate
authority.

Re: [android-developers] Database transaction help needed.

2010-08-24 Thread Kim Damevin
Hi,

Do you call getWriteableDatabase twice ? because you shouldn't.
It should be the same SQLiteDatabase object or you have to end the
transaction from the first one before you start a new one.

 I'm using transactions to insert data into several tables with foreign

 wrapper creates it's own SQLiteOpenHelper and holds onto the

 Now here's the problem,

 When I insert a row into the main table I begin a transaction.
 After the main data is inserted I do an insert for the other tables
 with FK relationships to the main table. Each of those inserts is
 contained in a wrapper for the specific table, and begins it's own
 transaction.

 Each level checks to see if anything failed before setting its
 transaction to complete.

 The problem is when I go to a second level, my transaction dies
 because the database is locked, presumably from the first level.

 Here are the error messages I get.

 08-24 14:54:53.105: ERROR/Database(468): CREATE TABLE android_metadata

 08-24 14:54:53.120: ERROR/Database(468): Failed to setLocale() when
 constructing, closing the database
 08-24 14:54:53.120: ERROR/Database(468):
 android.database.sqlite.SQLiteException: database is locked

 This is happening on the open call to the second level.

 How can I avoid this?

[android-developers] Custom filter on ListView

Hi all,

I have a ListView filled by a custom array adapter Which displays last
name and firstname of my object Person. I would like to add a filter

old..

How can I do it properly ?

Because I can make the check in each call of getview's method in my
custom array adapter but I don't think this is the way to go.

I can also directly remove element from my list which goes to the
adapter but I would prefer not to do it.

Can someone help me ?

was already on the android it was not possible to use it.
Then I added this into my application as a new jar and it works fine !

Hope this helps,
Kim

[android-developers] Best way to logout each time the application/task goes to background

2010-07-16 Thread Kim D.
Hello,

I have an application which requires a login at the beginning (this is
the first activity). When the user logs in, I keep his credentials in
the application (I extended android.application to add a field called
'key'). I would like to clear this field from memory (from application
instance) an go back to the login activity.

I see the following possibilities:
- Add a broadcast receiver to catch all possible event (call, click on
menu, click on back, lock the phone ...) which clear the key field and
launch the login activity
- Use clearTaskOnLaunch for all activities except the login activity.
But then until my application takes the focus again the key stays in
the application object. (It seems it doesn't work with the go back
button, maybe I need to use no history also)
- Detect for each activity in all onPause or onStop events when
application will leave the foreground
 to clear the key field and launch the login activity

The best would be to have a kind of OnPause method at application
level but I think it doesn't exist

I would appreciate any help on this problem.

ps: I already posted it once but never saw it on the discussions list.

Cheers,
Kim

[android-developers] Change the playback rate of a track in real time

2010-05-01 Thread Y Kim
Hello everybody,

I would like to know if somebody knows a library to changing the
playback rate of a track in real time. My idea is to load a track and
change its playback rate to half or double. Firstly, I tried with
MusicPlayer but is was not possible at all and then I tried with
SoundPool. The problem is that with SoundPool I can´t change the rate
once the track is loaded. Here is the code I am using (proof of
concept):

float j = 1;

@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);

Button b = (Button)findViewById(R.id.Button01);
b.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {

@Override
public void onClick(View v) {
j = (float) (j +.5);

}
});

AssetFileDescriptor afd;
try {

SoundPool sp = new SoundPool(1, AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC,
0);

afd = getAssets().openFd(wav/sample.wav);
int id = sp.load(afd, 1);
sp.play(id, 1, 1, 1, 0, j);

} catch (IOException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
}
}

When I press the button, the playback rate should increase but it does
not happen. Any idea of how change the rate in real time?

Thanks in advance.

[android-developers] How to import music into Android library

Hello, I would like to know how can I import songs from a web service

I have all the data from the web service but I do not know how to
integrate the tracks into Android database. My idea is not to have to
download the files, but playing them on streaming using the music
player. Do I need to download the tracks to the sd card and then
Android does all the stuff?

Thanks in advance

 Why do you need this? A service does not have a UI, so there should be no
 need to get a View.

[android-developers] How to loading images (assets or resources) dynamically?

2009-05-21 Thread Kim

Hi,

How do I load the image dynamically through the code? If its unclear,
I mean, I want to load image files by name based on the condition in
the code.

If I use images as resources, the image names have to be hard coded.
This is unacceptable to me.
If I load image in a webview (with image src path dynamically), the
time it takes to load is unacceptable to me.

Can anyone suggest any other way to load the images dynamically?

Thanks much for any pointers,
Kim

[android-developers] Re: How to display border lines for TableLayout

2009-03-13 Thread Taenam,Kim

  Hi there,
How about making a custom ViewGroup that extends TableLayout then
override the paint method.
In the overrided method
  1. you may get all of views in the layout to get view's bounds area
  2. draw rectangle to express the border of view

I didn't try this, but it makes sense.

 Hi:
everybody, Android developer guide mention TableLayout containers
 do not display border lines for their rows, columns, or cells. But we
 have a requirement to display the border on UI, there is no attribute
 to enable the border in TableLayout.
 how can I do it, anybody can give me some suggestion?
 Thanks.

 Dwyane

[android-developers] How can I send CJK text via SMS on G1

2008-11-23 Thread Jay Jaebong Kim
Hello developpers.

I am suffering sending CJK(Chinese, Japanese, Korean) text using SMS.
I copypaseted following code in my code.

   SmsManager sms=SmsManager.getDefault();
   sms.sendTextMessage(x, null, 한글test, null, null);

It works when I send english text only.
But when I send CJK text, it returned empty text.
Above code gave me, test only.

I have tested two G1 phone, mine and my wife's.

I saw aPowerSms can send Chinese text SMS, how can I do the same thing for
Korean.
Any response would be appreciated.

Thank in advance.

Jay

[android-developers] Re: Bug in Bitmap.compress when used on JPEGs?

2008-09-03 Thread Kim Pedersen

Maybe some of the requests are getting blocked. Try adding connect and
read timeouts by rewriting the url.openStream() to
openConnection().getInputStream():

...
URL url = uri.toURL();
URLConnection con = url.openConnection();
con.setConnectTimeout(3000);
con.setReadTimeout(3000);
Bitmap bmp = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(con.getInputStream());
...

Adjust the 3000 ms timeout values if necessary.

You can add exception handling for the connection timeouts.

Kim

 Hi there,

 I experience strange things when using the compress method from
 Bitmap. I'm useing the code at the bottom to download JPEGs from a
 server. Out of all images downloaded, ~10% fail to be written with a
 NullpointerException and a preceding message from something called
 'skia'. Each image is different and it doesn't always happen for the
 same ones:

 09-01 13:19:04.126: DEBUG/skia(1124): xx failure to skip
 request 9936 actual 6906
 09-01 13:19:04.132: DEBUG/skia(1124): x jpeg
 setjump exit
 09-01 13:19:04.132: ERROR/ImageUtil(1124):
 java.lang.NullPointerException

 If I use the same code on PNGs, all works like a charm.

 The code used is:

 public static String saveImageFromURI(URI uri, String name,
final Activity ctx, Handler handler) {
boolean success = false;
String qualifiedName = name + .jpg;
FileOutputStream fos = null;
try {
URL url = uri.toURL();
Bitmap bmp =
 BitmapFactory.decodeStream(url.openStream());
fos = ctx.openFileOutput(qualifiedName,
 Context.MODE_PRIVATE);
success = bmp.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 75,
 fos);
} catch (MalformedURLException e) {
Log.e(TAG, e.toString(), e);
} catch (IOException e) {
Log.e(TAG, e.toString(), e);
} catch (IllegalArgumentException e) {
Log.e(TAG, e.toString());
} catch (NullPointerException e) {
Log.e(TAG, e.toString(), e);
} finally {
try {
if (fos != null)
fos.close();
} catch (IOException e) {
Log.e(TAG, e.toString(), e);
}
}
if (success) {
return qualifiedName;
} else {
return null;
}
}

 Any ideas what could cause this behaviour?
