Re: [Angstrom-distro-users] Debian packaging system
Hi, thanks for answering. Yes, we are aware that we can install debian packages with opkg directly. This is not a problem, but we have an application which is calling dpkg -l command in order to get the list of all installed packages. This list is expected to be in a format debian packaging system is using it, thus working with opkg doesn't give real results, if you know what I mean. Currently we are providing scripts to overcome this problem, but application could use dpkg for other functions also (i.e. upgrade, etc.) and this could be a problem for us. This is why we want to have original debian packaging system, without changing distribution. If this is not possible with Angstrom, than we have to stick with wrapping opkg. Hi Jernej, we are using openembedded (classic) to build images for our tqm5200s-based hardware and selected the angstrom distribution, too. However a considerable amount of applications are added to the machine after the image has been installed for customizing and those we build via cmake as .deb archives and install via opkg. So it all depends on how you define debian packaging system. No problem to install debian packages, it should IMHO also be feasable to write a dpkg-wrapper for opkg. Do you really need more? Sounds like the wrapper script is the only reasonable option, unless you want to carefully convert opkg's pacakge manifest to dpkg's manifest. Yes, I completely agree with you. We will try the upgrade procedure and see how to convert app dpkg commands into opkg commands. Thank you very much.
