get film song examples for all these ragas to help the new generation enjoy
and understand the beauty of ragas by being able to relate to them.

So what better way to develop appreciation for carnatic music than by showing
its influences on popular music. That will be very educational and inspiring
for people I think... especially now that Rahman has attracted quite a bit of
interest from the west, and they will be keen to find out more about him, I
would like to make information about ragas available to the west

This way, the west will also have a better understanding of the musical
history that has given birth to a soul such as Rahman.

I found this website that gave a small sample of ragas that corresponded to
 different songs Rahman has done:
 http://prabhuthemusiclover.tripod.com/arrahman/id3.html

However, I am hoping someone (or several people), would help me create an
extensive list of raga identification for Rahman's music. I plan to make a
very educational website using this research. Hope to chat to you soon.

English words is a wonder) penning the lyrics for all six songs in the
movie. A.R.Rahman lends his hand composing in the New Age genre; the tunes
  are as usual fresh and innovative. Let's feed into the tracks;

The song starts with a different voice (aa flange effect) and drum
loops and all of a sudden you have A.R.Rahman entering the melody with an

syllables 'Ah Aah is used all over the song, even in some part of the
lyrics. The rhythm of the song is sophisticated plus peppy loops woven
around it, creates an energetic ambience. This song is at its own class.
The strings are beautifully added in the 2nd charanam and the female and
kids chorus are amazing. Some delicate usage of strings could be heard from

Spontaneous Recording with ARR

Category: Music

Wed Oct 22, 2008 Slum Dog Surprise !

Well, I took a swim in the deep end today -- new enjoyable waters with a
familiar diving partner.

The eve started out well -- Kailash I were hanging out in the studio took a
photo for the interview, I got the keys to my flat then headed to the Blue
Frog with a couple friends to hear a musician. I wasn't so hip on hearing the
music, but to hang out with Monica Randolf something was compelling me to
go out.

Well,,, the something was my lucky night, perfectly orchestrated by the
universe.

As we entered the club I saw Sammy, AR's driver who joyfully said hello to me
told me AR is here. So I inquired was lead back to the recording studios
where AR welcomed me with a happy surprised hello. He introduced me to
everyone in the room, including Amir Khan – an actor director in Hindi cinema
I admire – quality films. They're recording the songs for Amir's next film
Gajini which comes out next month.

I hung out,, we had dinner then about 2am AR put a new track up started
discussing the lyrics with me Suzanne, the singer who had previously written
some lyrics for the track. He sketches out the overall theme style hands me
the pad pen while he goes into studio B to record a singer on another track
for the film. I wrote new lyrics, pages of couplets - AR chooses his favorites,
I came up with a new chorus by 530am we recorded the song to completion.
That's how I like to do it! Suzanne sang it wonderfully – a touch of RB
Indian inflections pronunciation with nice harmonies ! What fun!

I genuinely enjoy working with AR – I love the immediacy of the process, he
pushes me to be a better writer, we laugh, I grow, I'm challenged it's
satisfying.

Thank you Universe for the opportunities, thanks Wendy for taking the risks,
stepping up to the cliff leaping – glad the world provided me with the
ability to fly or plung or whatever metaphor you choose – I like air, water, ….
Just feels good to be doing it. I'm grateful desire more! Bring it on!!

[arr] the magic of arr - reuses of his tunes ...

2009-03-30 Thread Anil Nair
Guess these must have been discussed here earlier - how ARR reuses his own
tunes but this blogger has merged couple of ARR tunes to that effect
http://rameshonmusic.blogspot.com/2009/03/some-arr-pieces-repeated.html

I would especially recommend the latter part where he has merged Usilampatti
(Gentleman) and Chandralekha (Thiruda-Thiruda) to show the similarity.

 Hey,
I am a new member to this group so forgive me if i may have snet the messeage
to the wrong plac enad such. I am from the Caribbean, and suprisingly, Rahman
was not a big deal among most Hindi music fans here, until very recently,
following Tere Bina and Barso re form Guru. His only other major hits here
were, Mukala from Humse Hai Muquabla, Chupke Se from Saathiya, Main Vari Vari
from Mangal Panday, Mehendi from Zubeidaa and Lukka Chupi from Rang De
Basanti. All other songs were either unheard or were on playlists but did not
become a rage. But I have been a fan of his music since Bombay, (Bombay being
the first of what we in the Caribbean heard from him).
Looking at this aritcle, it tells me nothing shocking. It was obvious that
Rahaman was the only person deserving of thse awards, with his music single
hadedly saving 2008 form being a drab year.
While all is works were excellent last year, it is dissappointing that
Yuvvraaj and Ada appear to be long forgotten by the masses. It goes to show
that the worth of music continues to rest alot on commerical success and not
on the melody of the creations, which would have mean tthat if it was so,
Rahman would have been even bigger than he is today.
But moving on from that not amore general look at the other music awards, we
have to say that we are very lucky that the talent of Rahman was recognised
by Mani Ratnam so that we will be exposed to it. If Roja did not become a
hit, or Rahman was not used to created the soundtrack, ther is a real
possiblity that we would have never heard the melodies that he has been
blessed to create. So in That regard I am happy to see Dominque being
recognised after many years of hard work. But I am amazed that Amit Trivedi
who did the work on Aamir and Dev D is yet again not recogised for his
inovation. While he has a very long way to to go to become a Rahman,
hecertainly has the inovation and the talent in his music. And it is a shame
that this is still not recognised.

I had debate with some of my relatives who'r older and admire
composers like Madan mohan,Naushad or Shankar jaikishen etc..
From their point of view older ways of recording songs is more
respectable.
Is older way of recording where singers, musicians and composer used
to sing/play parallely is more prestigious than 'cut and join later'
techiniques?..then what's the benifit of technogy?..Older people always tell
that now -a days bad singing can be corrected using softwares..so is it eaisier
for today's composer to record a song?
They ask where ARR would have been in contemporary with composers like
Naushad,SDBurman,Madan mohan etc..I ask 'could these people use the very best
of technology so effectively like ARR'?!!..they fell silent ..silence meant
'no'..and the debate stopped!!

Well, this ensemble did just that, and Sonu describes it all as ‘magical’.
“The number is an amalgamation of Western and Punjabi bhangra. It has turned

Tamil syllables 'Ah Aah is used all over the song, even in some part of
the lyrics. The rhythm of the song is sophisticated plus peppy loops
woven around it, creates an energetic ambience. This song is at its own
class. The strings are beautifully added in the 2nd charanam and the
female and kids chorus are amazing. Some delicate usage of strings could
be heard from 03:07 to 03:12. Repetitive effects such as echo and flange
have added beauty to this song. The song ends with neengal illamal naan
inggay illai I am nowhere without

[arr] Whosoever gave me Flower Bouquets, I accepted the same with Love - ARR Interview

2009-03-30 Thread Vithur
Today's World Renowned Allah Rakka Rahman is the same Dileep Kumar who
couldnt continue with his studies in his Tenth Standard. He has attracted
the full world because of his music. A Special Interview with him

Q :- Were you able to achieve such heights, because , you converted to Islam
?

I* think I could achieve this because of continous hard work, the passion
towards music and God's Grace. There are so many people who are behind this
succcess and they are *
**
*1. Mellisai Mannar M.S. Viswanathan*
*2. Isai Gnani Illayaraja *
*3. Zakir Hussain*
*4. Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan*
*5. Ramesh Naidu*
**
*These people have already put me in the Ladder. There is no connection
between Human success and Change in religion. *

2. What have you learnt in your journey of life ?

*All my life, I had spent it between Love and Hatred. All the time, I was
fighting between these two. I chose the Path of Love and I am in front of
you.*

3. What is the role of your religion in Music ?

*I am a Sufi Muslim. Art is important for Society. I am using Music to bring
out some good feelings in the same. I dont accept some movies. The Reason is
I dont want to spread religion through movies. *

4. What else do you like apart from Music ?

*Photography. I have recently bought a new camera. I have to start learning
it. I desire to take snaps of my children in different angles and feel
happy. *

5. Why did you stop your schooling at Tenth Standard ?

*I repented and felt for the same for 10 long years. Then, I stopped feeling
about the same. Einstein once said, It is this Education that stops us from
learning. Such an Education sometimes halts our Creativity. Thats the
reason I believe that its good that I couldnt complete the Formal
Education. *

6. How is Rahman at home ?

*Apart from composing music, I dont have much time left even to spend it
with my children. They get lot of compassion and pamperings from me. But my
wife is very strict and they fear her . *

7. Why is there no Information available about your Family Members ?

*I lost my freedom after I became famous. Let them atleast enjoy the freedom
that they have!!! *

8. You could have spoken about the Problems faced by Sri Lankan Tamils in
the Oscars Stage !!! ?

*It is the stage to felicitate artists from the entertainment and Art
Industry. There is no room for politics there and thats the reason I didnt
want to talk about anything else. But, I cant tolerate the pains underwent
by them at any instance. *
**
9. What is the happening which made you happy after winning the Oscars ?

*Director Danny Boyle had made the children of the Slums of Mumbai to act in
the movie Slumdog Millionaire. They got red Carpet welcome in the US.
That happening excited me a lot. A lot of other people have also come
forward to start helping them. *
**
10. What did you do with all the prizes that you received ?

*Whosoever gave me Flower Bouquets, I accepted the same with Love. Whosoever
gave me Champaigne' Bottles, I returned the same to them. *
**
11. Can you say one word on Maniratnam and Illayaraja ?

*The former is a person who doesnt talk much, but made everyone look at him
with awe. The latter captured the hearts of everyone through his music. *

12. Many of your dreams got fulfilled. What else is left out ?

*I would like to create a Music Program with World Class Standards. It would
be like Sydney Opera House and the participants would be Indians. We ,
Indians have all the talent in us to exhibit the same. With God's Grace,
all of this will happen. *

*All Praises to God Alone*

 Jodhaa Akbar rocks music awards

MBAI: Almost 80 years after W M Khan sang De de khuda ke naam pe for India's
first talking picture Alam Ara in 1931, and made the lives of

millions of Indians more musical, a special award has been instituted for the
Bollywood music industry by Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM. The first Tata Indicom
Mirchi Music Awards were announced at Hotel Taj Lands End in Bandra on
 Saturday evening.

Holding the golden trophy fashioned as female figurine, host Shaan emerged
singing from amidst the audience, encouraged by co-host Tulip Joshi. As was
the case at the Filmfare Awards, A R Rahman and Jodhaa Akbar swept the
honours here too, bagging song of the year for Jashn-e-bahara and best male
vocalist for Javed Ali for the same song.

Bela Shende, who was Shreya Ghoshal's rival at a talent hunt many years ago,
came out tops with Manmohana for Jodhaa Akbar. A R Rahman struck gold with
album of the year for Jaane Tu... and best music director for Kabhi Kabhi
Aditi. Aptly, the lifetime achievement award was presented to singer Lata
Mangeshkar for never having hit a wrong note in her life, as Bade Ghulam Ali
 Khan once said.

Interestingly, as many newcomers took the stage as veteran names in the
business. Upcoming talents Dominique Cerejo and Benny Dayal shared space with
veteran saxophonist and music arranger Manohari Singh. A spectacular lineup
of performances by Bipasha Basu, Shreya Ghoshal, Genelia DSouza and Kunal
Ganjawala punctuated the ceremony. In a spontaneous competition for music
directors present at the awards, Javed Akhtar gave them an 'unmusical' verse
to compose on IPL and the general elections.

Weeks before the actual awards ceremony, the jury met to deliberate the list
of nominations and then the winners. Jury chairman Javed Akhtar along with
Prasoon Joshi, Louis Banks, Shankar Mahadevan, Annu Malik, Lalit Pandit,
Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sonu Nigam, Kailash Kher, Suresh Wadkar, Sadhana
Sargam, Kunal Kohli, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Ramesh Sippy listened to
400-500 songs as they shortlisted the nominees to the 17 categories.

One of the award categories was branded the Tata Indicom Talent Hunt for
which aspiring singers from 23 locations in India had been invited to
compete. Contestwinner Prachi Shah from Ahmedabad performed at Saturday's
 awards ceremony.

The title sponsor of the Mirchi Music Awards is Tata Indicom. The channel
partner is Star TV and the online partner is Apnacircle.com.

 And the winners are...

 Song Of The Year
 Jashn-e-Bahara | Jodhaa Akbar

 A R Rahman | Jaane Tu...

 Male Vocalist Of The Year
Javed Ali | Jashn-e-Bahara, Jodhaa Akbar

From their point of view older ways of recording songs is more

Is older way of recording where singers, musicians and composer used
to sing/play parallely is more prestigious than 'cut and join later'
techiniques?..then what's the benifit of technogy?..Older people always tell
that now -a days bad singing can be corrected using softwares..so is it
eaisier for today's composer to record a song?
They ask where ARR would have been in contemporary with composers like

 'no'..and the debate stopped!!

the soothing voice, the delightful music, i have to say this is his best. there

 Hey,
I am a new member to this group so forgive me if i may have snet the messeage
to the wrong plac enad such.
