I just got my copy at the Landmark store, Iscon mega Mall, Ahmedabad. It was
not displayed in the shelves when I went. The shop keeper was kind enough to
get me a cd from the warehouse as the cd's just arrived today! However, they
had no clue on Sivaji Hindi...I hope fans in the other parts will get their
hands on the cd soon...

AR's photo is magnificient in the cover...Just curious to know, is this the
first hollywood soundtrack with the composer's photo printed on the cover??

Some 18 years ago, singer Unni Menon was given a call way past midnight,
awoken in his slumber, and was told that accomplished director Mani Ratnam
is recording songs for his new film and Menon’s voice was required for one
of those numbers. Who works at this hour, Menon asked himself. But due to
the fact that the name involved was called Mani Ratnam, Menon freshened
himself up and rushed up to the mentioned recording studio, where he saw a
young composer calling the shots.

Mani Ratnam, who so often works with Maestro Ilayaraja, has discovered a new
talent to associate with in the music department. Menon wondered
continuously if this young guy- whose name is AR Rahman, could really live
up to the humongous expectations of having to compose for a Mani Ratnam
film. He was given the song lyrics, the tunes were discussed, and on the wee
hours of that one day back in 1992, Menon recorded a song called ‘Pudhu
Vellai Mazhai’ (A new white rain), and went back home, back to his slumber.
The doubts that he had before recording the song existed even after that- he
didn’t think he had sung the catchiest of tunes. Little did he know, that
when he went to sleep that day, just like lyrics of the song proclaims, he
has witnessed a new white rain, that will reign the Indian music arena over
the following two decades. All the uncertainties over the song that he had
sung vanished into thin air as he listened to the final version of the song
one day- and as he listened, he realized that this song is not catchy, but
instead it makes the hair on the back of one’s neck stand up and applaud.

That AR Rahman back then was 26 years old. Today, as

he turns 44, that white rain has poured down not only in Tamil Nadu, but up
until on Hollywood’s most famous stage- the Oscar stage. Rahman was the very
first composer in Indian cinema history to win a National Award for his very
first film, an award that he would go on to claim two more times. An
honorary doctorate and a Padmashri, India’s fourth highest civilian honor,
are just a little peek into a mass collection of awards and applauds that
this modest, humble, soft-spoken name with an ever present smile on his face

Rahman is not only a good composer, he is a symbol- a symbol of a nation
struggling to unleash itself from the strangling, rusting ropes of past

Sivaji (especially Balleilakka) were also strange  funny? Asking because I 
dont understand Tamil.

[arr] VTV will be a monumental landmark ARR album

I've made reference to this before, but a very special album by ARR is about to 
be unveiled and this is a very exciting time.  The positive vibes I'm getting 
are extremely, extremely strong.  Got a feeling ARR really put his heart and 
soul into this one and it's going to show, big time.  If Hosana is anything to 
go by, expect showers of praises from all over India and all over the world, 
not just down South. Show off this landmark album to your non ARR friends, and 
this album, if it's as good as I'm predicting it to be, will need to be 
recognized by those in the West too.possibly being Grammy worthy.  VTV will 
surely find a cozy place amongst the greats like KK, AP, KKS, KM, Iruvar, 
Thiruda, Bombay, Roja.  

Enjoy the coming days, fellow ARR fans.  I am predicting that there won't be a 
single person from this group who will express disappointment when this album 
comes out.  Again, I could be wrong, but just my prediction.  The same thing 
happened with D6everyone, and I mean everyone here was all praise.  

With VTV, I predict that ARR will take other composers in India to school.  
Watch and wait.

Sounds like a lot of soul in this album, which is what I expected!  Hard to 
judge just from clips, but so far it definitely confirms my confidence about 
this soundtrack's exquusiteness!  ARR definitely testing newer waters here, 
expanding his range!

Ohh line by line translation!! Probably thats why it sounds odd at some 
instances.. I mean (in my opinion) it doesnt quite fit in the flow of the tune 
(as there probably is difference in the length of word/sentence in Tamil  
Hindi)..So its funny in good way and bad in some ways.

On the contrary, Vaaji in Tamil had great lyrics, and Athiradee had a playful 
and funny lyrics. Sahana had extremely beautiful lyrics too. Thanks to 
Vairamuthu (who wrote both Vaaji and Sahana lyrics).

The lyrics of Balleleika in Tamil was typically a Rajini intro lyrics. He needs 
to be praised, thus it is said  Suriyano, Chandirano Yaarivano, Sattene 
solle. The rest he was praising the greatness of Tamil soil and its culture. 
About the hot idli and such. Im not sure whether it was directly translated 
like that to Hindi, but for the Tamil audiences, it surely made us realize 
those greatness of Tamil culture and habits tru the lyrics in this song.

*Sakkarakatti,*there hasn’t been any Tamil releases from A R Rahman as
he got occupied with

I am not suprised at this development...the success of a film determines the 
popularity of a soundtrack winning awards...unfortunately. But congrats to 
Pritam, I do beleive his deserving but not for his soundtrack for love aaj kal,

Blaaze was introduced by ARR for sure. It was in 2002.
