[arr] Gulzar gets unique gift from Mani Ratnan, Raavan gets new song in return

2010-05-17 Thread satish_srini
Mani Ratnam's Raavan has just been given a new song, thanks to that poet par
excellence Gulzar who saw the film and suggested the embellishment. The
director, always open to fresh ideas from his team, readily agreed. Composer
Rahman was informed and that's how Raavan got a new song.

Gulzar Saab, who just back from Goa after participating in the stage rendition
of four of his plays, says the song was almost a gift he owed Mani Ratnam for
gifting him something that he, Gulzar, had never received in his entire 47-year
old career as a lyricist.

Mani sent the poet-lyricist a note after the release of the Raavan music
congratulating Gulzar Saab for the songs.

Says Gulzar Saab, In my entire career I've never received such a heartwarming
endorsement of my work. I received a note from Mani Ratnam congratulating me
and saying he's very proud of the music. And look at the humility of this
genius. No filmmaker has ever sent me a note like this. Mani is the only one.
And this one gesture has enhanced my respect for him even more.

Not only this gesture, Gulzar Saab also received an invitation from Mani to see
the film at a special screening for which the poet flew down to Chennai
recently.

It was there that the new song suddenly happened.

Recounts Gulzar Saab, After editing Raavan, Mani wanted me to watch the film.
No filmmaker invites even the technical crew for a preview, let alone the
lyricist. I flew down to Chennai to watch the film. I'd never do something like
this for anyone else. This is how strongly I feel about this man's humility and
greatness.

As the end-credits rolled and Rahman's music began, Mani Ratnam and Gulzar Saab
thought there ought to be a song at the end.

That's how Gulzar Saab wrote an additional number for Raavan... 'Ab Iss Shareer
Ke Sirey Khol Dey/Aur Goongi Aatma Ko Bol Dey'.

Says Gulzar Saab, Both Mani and I felt the music that Rahman had composed for
the end titles was too beautiful to go wordless. We decided to give words to
Rahman's creation.

Rahman was then given the task of turning the music piece into a song.
Interestingly neither Mani Ratnam nor A. R. Rahman fully understands Gulzar's
Urdu poetry.

Defends Gulzar Saab, But they are never short of questions. Never does a word
go in until Mani is fully convinced of its relevance. He's never hesitant about
asking. I would be appalled if my words were accepted blindly by a director.
Even if his Urdu is weak, Mani has a terrific sense of poetry and images.

2010-05-17 Thread Indmov Buff
it's not another new song. It's Jaare Ud jaare. And in the tamil version it's
called Naan varuvene. I think it's for when Veera/Beera dies and as the article
suggests, that will be how the film ends.

[arr] Do Gujarat and Tamil Nadu really need Rahman?

2010-05-17 Thread A.R.Rajib
Do Gujarat and Tamil Nadu really need Rahman?

Posted by: Karthik In:
Commentaryhttp://itwofs.com/milliblog/category/commentary/
| Piece of my mind! http://itwofs.com/milliblog/category/piece-of-my-mind/
| Random thoughts http://itwofs.com/milliblog/category/random-thoughts/

A R Rahman recently composed theme songs for 2 states – the first was for
Gujarat, scored for Gujarat’s Golden Jubilee celebrations and the second was
the theme song composed for World Classical Tamil Conference. Now, what
would be the shelf life of such songs, composed for specific occasions?

In case of Bharatbala’s Vande Mataram project, it was meant as, and marketed
as a commercial pop album and hence it worked wonderfully, with phenomenal
shelf-life. But, what do these one-off theme songs give Rahman, who’s music
is always expected with feverish perseverance by his fans?

Money? Possibly, but that is the least of Rahman’s considerations given his
global standing. An association with the state heads or the cause the theme
songs are supposed to represent? Very possible – since there is
time-based/historical significance to these events, and hence, possibly, the
songs too.

But really, how often are these songs played? At least in case of the Tamil
World Conference, it is nothing but an ego-massage by the current Chief
Minister of Tamil Nadu and it is sad to see Rahman pandering to such blatant
abuse of power when there are many more worthy causes that are crying for
attention. Tamil Nadu is a state where there seems to be a unofficial diktat
to hold at least one conference/meeting every week with Karunanidhi as chief
guest – it is a cycle actually, since the exclusive TV rights of such weekly
conferences/meetings go to Karunanidhi-owned Kalaignar TV and slots are sold
to sponsors immediately, completing the money circle. But Rahman is from
Tamil Nadu, and needs to act like one, beyond personal beliefs – if that
means doing a theme song for a Tamil World Conference, so be it.

I’ve nothing personally against the conference and love my mother tongue
quite adequately that I chose Tamil as 2nd language all through my studies,
while my classmates had incredible fun with Sanskrit. But I’m befuddled with
the idea of using a celebrated, globally renowned composer for scoring a
theme song that may never be used or remembered beyond one evening. If this
was a film project, would Rahman agree? Or, would he use his discretion to
see the pointlessness of the exercise and focus on better projects? I cannot
answer that hypothetical question and I suppose neither will Rahman – even
if he has an answer. That is called being politically correct.

The song for Gujarat seems to have slightly better significance – after all,
50 years is not a small milestone – and, roping in a celebrated composer to
mark that occasion with a special song is a great idea. There are murmurs
about Narendra Modi doing this tactically, given his much-maligned past the
composer’s religion, but such parochial assumptions insult both the occasion
and the composer, who is known for his religion-agnostic outlook.

The Gujarat song and the Tamil conference theme are predictable to a large
extent – rousing music that builds gradually; assortment of singers and
state/culture/language-specific instruments used for obvious reasons;
jingoistic lyrics, again, for obvious and rightful reasons – Rahman’s fans
are happy that they have something from their idol. But, what exactly are
these theme compositions meant to achieve? And for whom?
I personally believe that these initiatives gain more from Rahman’s name
attached to them than Rahman gaining anything from them. That, of course,
does not make it any less important for Rahman to decline such
opportunities, but I really wonder why an incredibly busy composer who has
top-ranked directors and producers waiting in queue outside his house to
sign him for their projects, agree to such one-off efforts that may be used
once in their life time and revered only by fanatic followers? Hell with
being politically correct – at least online.

Yes, I also have similar experience.

When I had met him, I drew my borrowed digital cam and said shyly
smilingly may I get your just one pic. He nodded and stood up and said
come.

I said that I want only his pic, I don't want to be in the pic myself.

he said, no way, you also come, or something like that, and there was
a man in the room (his secretary or someone I didn't know) and ARR
requested that guy to shoot the pic and that guy shot the pic having
ARR and myself.

I mean ARR knows how much a pic with him will mean for his fan for a
lifetime so he would never disappoint any fan by refusing a pic. May
be at times something is on his mind so he might have said no, in a
rush to attend some work or something, but I am sure that such
incidences must be very very rare and based on circumstances.

By Subhash K. Jha, May 17, 2010 - 11:12 IST

[image: Gulzar]Mani Ratnam's
*Raavanhttp://www.bollywoodhungama.com/broadband/video/Movie-Promos/2cLcBR10/3/Ranjha-Ranjha-Raavan.html
* has just been given a new song, thanks to that poet *par excellence*Gulzar
who saw the film and suggested the embellishment. The director, always open
to fresh ideas from his team, readily agreed. Composer Rahman was informed
and that's how*Raavan* got a new song.

Gulzar Saab, who just back from Goa after participating in the stage
rendition of four of his plays, says the song was almost a gift he owed Mani
Ratnam for gifting him something that he, Gulzar, had never received in his
entire 47-year old career as a lyricist.

Mani sent the poet-lyricist a note after the release of the
*Raavanhttp://www.bollywoodhungama.com/movies/mstills/14148/index.html
*music congratulating Gulzar Saab for the songs.

Says Gulzar Saab, In my entire career I've never received such a
heartwarming endorsement of my work. I received a note from Mani Ratnam
congratulating me and saying he's very proud of the music. And look at the
humility of this genius. No filmmaker has ever sent me a note like this.
Mani is the only one. And this one gesture has enhanced my respect for him
even more.

Not only this gesture, Gulzar Saab also received an invitation from Mani to
see the film at a special screening for which the poet flew down to Chennai
recently.

It was there that the new song suddenly happened.

Recounts Gulzar Saab, After editing *Raavan*, Mani wanted me to watch the
film. No filmmaker invites even the technical crew for a preview, let alone
the lyricist. I flew down to Chennai to watch the film. I'd never do
something like this for anyone else. This is how strongly I feel about this
man's humility and greatness.

As the end-credits rolled and Rahman's music began, Mani Ratnam and Gulzar
Saab thought there ought to be a song at the end.

That's how Gulzar Saab wrote an additional number for Raavan... '*Ab Iss
Shareer Ke Sirey Khol Dey/Aur Goongi Aatma Ko Bol Dey*'.

Says Gulzar Saab, Both Mani and I felt the music that Rahman had composed
for the end titles was too beautiful to go wordless. We decided to give
words to Rahman's creation.

Rahman was then given the task of turning the music piece into a song.
Interestingly neither Mani Ratnam nor A. R. Rahman fully understands
Gulzar's Urdu poetry.

Defends Gulzar Saab, But they are never short of questions. Never does a
word go in until Mani is fully convinced of its relevance. He's never
hesitant about asking. I would be appalled if my words were accepted blindly
by a director. Even if his Urdu is weak, Mani has a terrific sense of poetry
and images.

   Hey ppl,

There is so much talk about 'Raavan' nowadays. It almost seems like a
prolonged , infinitely extended review session, which is slowly
 dissolving
into a rather pointless war of words and opinions, and which doesn't
 seem to
end ever. Comparisons, criticisms, praises, anger, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu
,hatred, pleasure..etc etc. We've been witness to so many different
 emotions
in the last few weeks, all due to a bunch of 6 songs.! isnt it
   remarkable??...

Well..talking about comparisons, let me go back to Guru. I was just
listening to some songs of Guru, and i thot ill add something here. I
 would
like to say at the start that I am NOT COMPARING anything to
anything..(LOL)...as u will find out on reading.

Guru, in a manner of speaking, is a very difficult album to rank
 amongst
Rahman's great plethora of work over the years. 'Tere Bina' and 'Ay
Hairathe' outshine the other songs in the album by a long long way.
 They
emerge as clear cut winners, and in my book rank as not just the best
 songs
in the album, but 2 of the finest songs ever composed by Rahman. They
 have
all the qualities which you would want in matured, romantic duets.

However, none of the other songs are remembered as fondly as these two,
 and
they don't even deserve to be. Barso re enjoyed little acclaim and some
attention at the time of the movie's release, and for a few months
 after,
and this was also due to the picturization (which was very good), but
 thats
about it. I don't really care about Mayya Mayya (yeah u can talk about
 the
raag used and all of that..but bah..id never really wanna hear that if
 im
sitting alone in my balcony chilling or if i just wanna listen to some
 good
Rahmanic stuff), Jaage hai or the 'Guru Bhai Guru bhai' song . These
 were
more like theme songs, and hardly for casual hearing. In fact, I had
completely forgotten abt them until the mention of Guru came up in some
   recent posts.

So today when I think of Guru, all I remember are the 2 fabulous songs
 which
I mentioned at the start, and I dont even care about the others. On the
whole, Guru, for me, will be remembered just as a 2 song album , rather
than 'Rahmans Finest' or 'Greatest Ever' etc. These, i'm afraid, are
 terms
which should be used very sparingly and carefully, and certainly do not
   apply for 'Guru'.

   Peace !!

   Anish.

Nobel Souls...
(This post is dedicated to Vithur bro who is the backbone of this
initiative...)
“When you are passionate about something, Nothing can stop you.” ~ ARR
Taking this as slogan, even in the scorching summer noon’s, when whole of the
country is dreading the heat of Chennai, nothing can stop this bunch of guys
from their mission. They don’t see heat, rain or any personal priorities. They
some how gather enough arms and ammunition in their bags to destroy an evil.
The evil is HUNGER and their ammunition is FOOD Packets...
These guys hunt for the hungry faces and leave a smile on every face they
visit. Feeding one Hungry is more sacred than praying for hours in a temple.
Humanity still exists on earth and these guys are the living example of it.
Initiating a Nobel deed isn’t a big deal but to continue it for years together
without missing even a single time is a BIG DEAL!!!
But what’s the source of such positive energy? What brings them together? What
keeps them going without fail?
Yeah they are fans of a music composer called as AR Rahman and call themselves
as Rahmaniacs. But how can just a music composer make people so passionate
about Humanity. The world, where everyone has no time even for their own
family, why are these guys going around in search for hungry strangers and
helping them??? Is someone forcing them???
Yes! Their conscience forces them and Who is keeping this conscience still
alive??? Some divine music notes.
In evening, after making our hands dirty the whole day while struggling with
this world to survive, all we need is few minutes alone with musical notes
composed by the maestro. And I believe music works like cleanser.
To survive these days, we create a cemented layer around our heart or it would
be impossible for any emotional person to live peacefully. But his music works
like a hammer and break the stone around our heart and shakes our conscience.
Sometimes I feel as if ARR is a messenger from God and who tells us the words
of God himself through his compositions. The more i listen to some of his
compositions the more I feel connected to divine powers.
And same is the case with these guys. They are connected with God and the same
is reflected by their deeds.
They search for opportunities and spend every special occasion with kids
battling in Orphanages. They serve them special food and entertain them and
believe me I have seen God in the eyes of those Kids. Their smile is
everything. We were fortunate enough that our parents spent thousands of rupees
for toys, gifts, clothes but did we actually understand the value? Just spend
5/- for a chocolate for them and see the appreciation in their eyes.
AR Rahman fans are so different. When others are spending liters of milk or
lakhs of rupees on the posters of their heroes, these guys keep loving their
idol in heart and keep the flame of their good deeds burning. They dnt need any
publicity. All they need is more hands to join them.
Hope this fire keeps burning. Long Live AR Rahman, Long live Rahmaniacs...

(AP) – 20 hours ago

CANNES, France — The Indian-inspired, rags-to-riches musical Bombay Dreams
is about to become a major motion picture.

Indian director Deepa Mehta, best known for her Elements trilogy, will
direct the movie.

Oscar-winner A.R. Rahman, who composed the score for the original stage
production, will write new songs for the movie version.

Andrew Lloyd Webber, the composer behind such musical hits as The Phantom
of the Opera and Evita, produced the stage version of the musical, which
opened in London in 2002.

Monsoon Wedding screenwriter Sabrina Dhawan will write the script, the
movie's producers, Marquee Picture, said at the Cannes Film Festival.

The movie will be shot on location in India. It has not yet been cast.

[arr] Follow Rahman to come up in life: Tamilnadu CM

2010-05-17 Thread Bivin Chandra
Follow Rahman to come up in life: CMIndiaGlitz [Monday, May 17, 2010]Describing
A R Rahman as a “shining star” in the Islamic Community, Chief Minister M
Karunanidhi said the music composer’s life is a lesson for the present day
youth striving to come up in life and aspiring to scale great heights.Speaking
at the launch of the theme song for the World Classical Tamil Conference, which
was penned by Karunanidhi and music, composed by Rahman, at a function in
Chennai Saturday, the octogenarian said, “Rahman is a living legend and an
inspiration for the present day youth, who should emulate his principles.”The
Chief Minister also described the maestro as a classic example of how
determination and hard work would pay dividends and propel people to dizzy
heights. “I was so particular that only Rahman should score music for this
song,” he said.In his address, Rahman praised the Tamil language and thanked
Karunanidhi for providing the opportunity
to compose the theme song. “I want to include all styles and music like folk,
carnatic and western because Tamil is a universal language and we should not
restrict it with a circle,” he said.Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin along with
a host of other Central and State government Ministers took part in the event.
Music legend L Subramaniam and filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon were also
present. The World Classical Tamil Conference would be held in Coimbatore from
June 23 to June 27.

The Tamil was of a very high standard and I initially wondered how I was
going to do it, but thankfully it has come out well. This was how A.R.

Classical Tamil Conference which was released on Saturday.

Apparently, the tune for the anthem came to him immediately, but production
was quite another matter. It took two to two-and-a-half months, but we were
working with a large crew – almost 70 singers, Rahman, dapper in a rich
reddish-brown kurtha with an embroidered panel running down the front, told
reporters on the eve of the function to release the anthem.

All of us together worked on the anthem – There was TMS [T.M.
Soundararajan], Yuvan [Shankar Raja], Shruti Hassan, P.Sushila…(to name a
few). Basically, I have been busy in Hollywood and also touring. Therefore I
was working on a tight schedule and was available only for two or three
days, so people who could come then joined us, he said to a question on how
the singers were chosen. A new verse on Kamban and Avvaiyar was added almost
when the composing was over, and had to be incorporated into the final cut.

TMS begins with Pirapokkum Ella Uyirkkum, the first lines of the anthem
composed by Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi. Some of the other top playback
artistes featuring in the anthem include Harini, Hariharan, Benny Dayal,
Srinivas, Vijay Jesudas, Naresh Iyer. Rahman's nephew G.V.Prakash and sister
Rehana have also joined the ensemble.

The thing about this anthem, Rahman says, is that it also features singers
who have distinguished themselves in other genres of music such as Carnatic
(Aruna Sayeeram, Bombay Jaishree, Nithyashree and Soumya), folk, Sufi
(M.Y.Abdul Ghani, Khajamoideen, S.Sabumoideen), and even rap (Blaaze).
Another key aspect is that three generations of singers have participated.

Responding to a complaint that the words in his songs were often drowned
out by the instruments, he says, I think you will hear the words in this
song. In fact we have kept the instruments to a minimum so that the words
are clear. The traditional Tamil nagaswaram and tavil blend melodiously
with the guitar and drums, even as the carnatic notes wind seamlessly with
 the rap.

And what are his favourite lines from the anthem? For some one who added a
line in Tamil in his Oscars acceptance speech, the answer was predictable:
Semmozhiyaana Tamizh mozhiyaam, the line that runs right through as the
 chorus.

[image: ravan]A trailer of Mani Ratnam’s bilingual *Raavan/Raavanan*was
screened to the media here today. Timed to coincide with the 63rd Cannes
Film Festival, when journalists from the world over assemble here, the event
was attended by the lead stars of the movie, Vikram, Abhishek Bachchan and
Aishwarya Rai.

Amit Khanna of Reliance Big Pictures, which has produced the films,
described Mani Ratnam as arguably the best Indian director living today, and
said that he and the rest believed in taking such rare movies as *
Raavan/Raavanan* across the globe. Both the Hindi and Tamil versions will
open in 58 countries in mid-June. He hoped that this world would help
transcend barriers.

Suhasini, Mani Ratnam’s wife and the film’s co-producer and dialogue writer
for the Tamil edition, said that it would help “us understand the grey parts
that all of us have in us…None of us is completely white or black”. She was
all praise for A.R. Rahman’s music, and said that it merged beautifully with
the story. In fact, the music accentuated picture. Songs have a great role
to play. They do take the plot forward.

Most Indian movies and stories can trace their origins to the two great
epics, the *Ramayana *and *Mahabharata,* and*Raavan/Raavanan* was not
different. It has been inspired by the Ramayana, though it really is not a
take-off on that.

Incidentally, Ratnam shot both versions simultaneously, something he has
never done before, and Vikram and Aishwarya play in both. Bachchan only in
the Hindi version. He told the media that his part was his career’s most
challenging, most difficult and most stimulating. It was physically
exhausting, and Vikram agreed.

Rai felt that apart from the intricacies of essaying the Hindi and Tamil
heroine all at the same time, the inhospitable jungle terrain where they
shot Ratnam’s work posed its own hazards.

But at the end of it all, she and the rest found a sense of immense
satisfaction and joy. Vikram agreed, and said in a private conversation with
me that he dubbed for the Hindi version as well. “If Aishwarya could have
dubbed for the Tamil edition, why not I for Hindi”, he quipped.

*Raavan/Ravanan* is the story of Dev and his wife, Ragini, a classical
dancer, whose trials begin when he takes up a new posting in a small north
Indian town. There the police do not execute the law, but Beera, who has
changed the power equation.

This is the Jaa re ud jaa re song that we've seen at the launch. Brilliant
song. So now we know where the song fits in the movie ?

On Mon, May 17, 2010 at 11:50 AM, satish_srini satish_srini@ yahoo.com wrote:

Mani Ratnam's Raavan has just been given a new song, thanks to that poet par
excellence Gulzar who saw the film and suggested the embellishment. The
director, always open to fresh ideas from his team, readily agreed. Composer
Rahman was informed and that's how Raavan got a new song.

Gulzar Saab, who just back from Goa after participating in the stage rendition
of four of his plays, says the song was almost a gift he owed Mani Ratnam for
gifting him something that he, Gulzar, had never received in his entire
47-year old career as a lyricist.

Not only this gesture, Gulzar Saab also received an invitation from Mani to
see the film at a special screening for which the poet flew down to Chennai
recently.

It was there that the new song suddenly happened.

Recounts Gulzar Saab, After editing Raavan, Mani wanted me to watch the film.
No filmmaker invites even the technical crew for a preview, let alone the
lyricist. I flew down to Chennai to watch the film. I'd never do something
like this for anyone else. This is how strongly I feel about this man's
humility and greatness.

As the end-credits rolled and Rahman's music began, Mani Ratnam and Gulzar
Saab thought there ought to be a song at the end.

That's how Gulzar Saab wrote an additional number for Raavan... 'Ab Iss
Shareer Ke Sirey Khol Dey/Aur Goongi Aatma Ko Bol Dey'.

He's never hesitant
about asking. I would be appalled if my words were accepted blindly by a
director. Even if his Urdu is weak, Mani has a terrific sense of poetry and
images.

Rehana have also joined the ensemble.

The thing about this anthem, Rahman says, is that it also features singers who
have distinguished themselves in other genres of music such as Carnatic (Aruna
Sayeeram, Bombay Jaishree, Nithyashree and Soumya), folk, Sufi (M.Y.Abdul
Ghani, Khajamoideen, S.Sabumoideen) , and even rap (Blaaze). Another key aspect
is that three generations of singers have participated.

Responding to a complaint that the words in his songs were often drowned out by
the instruments, he says, I think you will hear the words in this song. In
fact we have kept the instruments to a minimum so that the words are clear.
The traditional Tamil nagaswaram and tavil blend melodiously with the guitar
and drums, even as the carnatic notes wind seamlessly with the rap.

And what are his favourite lines from the anthem? For some one who added a line
in Tamil in his Oscars acceptance speech, the answer was predictable:
Semmozhiyaana Tamizh mozhiyaam, the line that runs right through as the
chorus.

[arr] Re: Do Gujarat and Tamil Nadu really need Rahman?

2010-05-17 Thread arr_raghu
First of all not every piece of art has to go churning money.
An incredibly talented ARR can easily present composition as
a gift to the state of gujarath, to the indian navy, to the
tajmahal, and to the state of tamil nadu.
ARR might not capitalize much on these projects but the people
to whom he gift his work will feel exceptionally happy.
probably arr's idea is merely to make them and see them happy.
as a fellow fan, i feel proud that arr is contributing to such events.
it actually enhances his stature and reaps more respect across various
communities.

A R Rahman recently composed theme songs for 2 states – the first was for
Gujarat, scored for Gujarat's Golden Jubilee celebrations and the second was
the theme song composed for World Classical Tamil Conference. Now, what
would be the shelf life of such songs, composed for specific occasions?

In case of Bharatbala's Vande Mataram project, it was meant as, and marketed
as a commercial pop album and hence it worked wonderfully, with phenomenal
shelf-life. But, what do these one-off theme songs give Rahman, who's music
is always expected with feverish perseverance by his fans?

Money? Possibly, but that is the least of Rahman's considerations given his
global standing.

I've nothing personally against the conference and love my mother tongue
quite adequately that I chose Tamil as 2nd language all through my studies,
while my classmates had incredible fun with Sanskrit. But I'm befuddled with
the idea of using a celebrated, globally renowned composer for scoring a
theme song that may never be used or remembered beyond one evening. If this
was a film project, would Rahman agree? Or, would he use his discretion to
see the pointlessness of the exercise and focus on better projects? I cannot
answer that hypothetical question and I suppose neither will Rahman – even
if he has an answer. That is called being politically correct.

The song for Gujarat seems to have slightly better significance – after all,
50 years is not a small milestone – and, roping in a celebrated composer to
mark that occasion with a special song is a great idea. There are murmurs
about Narendra Modi doing this tactically, given his much-maligned past the
composer's religion, but such parochial assumptions insult both the occasion
and the composer, who is known for his religion-agnostic outlook.

The Gujarat song and the Tamil conference theme are predictable to a large
extent – rousing music that builds gradually; assortment of singers and
 state/culture/language-specific instruments used for obvious reasons;
jingoistic lyrics, again, for obvious and rightful reasons – Rahman's fans
are happy that they have something from their idol. But, what exactly are
these theme compositions meant to achieve? And for whom?
I personally believe that these initiatives gain more from Rahman's name
attached to them than Rahman gaining anything from them.

True enough that the theme was targeted for youth, hence the rap sequence
was there. I think the whole theme was a great blend of music genres

I feel it would have been better if arr didn't include the rap part into
this song, i feel the mood of the song is getting disturbed by the rap part
even in sruthi's portion. wht u guys say?

The Tamil was of a very high standard and I initially wondered how I was
going to do it, but thankfully it has come out well. This was how A.R.
Rahman described his experience of working with the anthem for the World
Classical Tamil Conference which was released on Saturday.

Apparently, the tune for the anthem came to him immediately, but
production was quite another matter. It took two to two-and-a-half months,
but we were working with a large crew – almost 70 singers, Rahman, dapper
in a rich reddish-brown kurtha with an embroidered panel running down the
front, told reporters on the eve of the function to release the anthem.

All of us together worked on the anthem – There was TMS [T.M.
Soundararajan] , Yuvan [Shankar Raja], Shruti Hassan, P.Sushila…(to name a

Retaining the original stage production score for the movie would be great.
It had some fantastic tunes of AR to date.

 opened in London in 2002.

Monsoon Wedding screenwriter Sabrina Dhawan will write the script, the
movie's producers, Marquee Picture, said at the Cannes Film Festival.

The movie will be shot on location in India. It has not yet been cast.
