Re: [Assp-user] Sender Verification question

2007-01-23 Thread Marrco
I was just wondering how ASSP does sender verification?

it doesn't.

Does ASSP utilize callbacks to do sender verification?

nope. And i hope it never will.

No mail system does authentication, and it's up to the sending system to do
authorisation (eg submit via port 587 with a password) That does not
verify the sender matches the account/password, only that the
account/password are authorised to send mail

Verification --- suggest you look at gpg, and read the discussion of
identity. In general we humans are not intrested in absolute identity,
only repeatability of identity (ie the same person responds to the
greeting Hi Amy!)

I didn't think it at all. There was a glowing review of ASSP on the SPAM-L and
someone blasted
the program as being a problem because it does sender verification callbacks. I
looked at the
code and didn't see such behavior, but I'm not a programmer, so I just thought
I'd throw it out here
presumably to get an answer, which if you don't mind, I will quote and put that
issue to rest.

Periodically I have found people who have made assumptions about how ASSP does
what it does
and have blasted it on those assumptions. I wanted to dispell any wrong
assumptions.

Please do not be pi**ed.

Heh - that was me...

and someone blasted the program as being a problem because it does
 sender verification
callbacks.

And I just blasted him back for profaning ASSP, although I had to
resubscribe with a different address since apparently I was banned for
daring to suggest that their precious FAQ might need a little work...
