[on-asterisk] Re: [biz] Asterisk PA/Paging
Keith: We have several deployments that make use of loud paging from Asterisk. We always use the Viking products driven by the FXO port of a Linksys 3102. It works great. In addition, the same device can be used to provide loud ringing over the PA speakers by using the FXS port from the same Linksys 3102. They also have a music input so a radio or other music device can play music into the warehouse that gets automatically muted when the paging or loud ringing cuts in. Viking makes at least 2 products that will work in this environment. CPA-7B http://www.vikingelectronics.com/products/view_product.php?pid=29 PA-30 http://www.vikingelectronics.com/products/view_product.php?pid=330 The CPA-7B also comes with a small horn style speaker. We have found that for most of our installs the CPA-7B just didn't have enough power and we ended up using the PA-30. If you end up using these I have some dialplan configs that I can send you (its pretty straight forward though) Regards, Bill - Original Message - From: Keith Major | Aquarius Telecom Inc. Similar to what you would find at the grocery store. We would like to deploy an Asterisk solution for them but, this is one requirement that is needed. RE: [on-asterisk] Changing Polycom Line Display Remotely
Leif, You may find further info on the microbrowser and some useful scripts: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Polycom+Microbrowser I am sure you have seen the following link, but if you have not, there are info on the new firmware etc http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Polycom+Phones Just a note, if you are currently running firmware 1.6 series on your ip 50x series polycom phones, the 2.x series xml configuration are different and of course a lot easier to work with in comparison to the 1.6 series... Good luck! [on-asterisk] [Fwd: Re: [biz] Asterisk PA/Paging]
Original Message Subject: Re: [biz] Asterisk PA/Paging From:Dave Donovan [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date:Sat, January 19, 2008 14:28 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Hi Henry, Well said. I'm glad we agree. Only one thing, you replied directly to me instead of the list. :-) So I guess you're preaching to the converted. It's at _least_ two cents worth, so post it to the list for everyone. All the best, Dave On Jan 19, 2008 7:47 AM, Henry L.Coleman [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Just to put in my two cents worth Dave is right, paging is a whole thing on it's own. Many years ago I was contracted to install phone systems for Shoppers Drug Mart in Southern Ontario. I had to construct a relay that would activate when a (paging)line was selected. This relay would then switch the input of the Paging Amp from the piped elevator music to the page. Paging systems use 600 ohm @ 70 volts transformers with each speaker. This design makes it possible to run speakers in parallel over long distances without loading problems. The Input of Paging Amps is also different, they have a Mic input and an AUX input but do not have an input suitable for connection to the (8 ohm) speaker a SIP hands-free phone. The result will overload the input of the Amp and cause gross distortion. In the end you are much better off supplying an ATA extension and getting a reputable company to set up the paging system. Was that more that two cents worth ? Sorry Henry Dave Donovan If they don't already have a PA system as Alex suggests, then there are companies that do paging. One of the companies I dealt with once was Valcom and I was quite happy. Most paging systems provide you a very convenient interface. If I recall, you just plug their system into an FXO port. You just go offhook, wait a second or so for that chime, and send the audio. Simplest way, just put in an FXO board and give it extension 5123. Whenever someone dials 5123, they'll hear the chime and they can just say Keith, line 1, it's your wife and she sounds upset! The one time I dealt with paging was in a warehouse. The speakers have to be installed 30 feet up so I was happy to let Valcom do the paging and just give me the interface I needed. They do this stuff all day so I'm sure they can make it work for you. I hope that helps, Dave On Jan 18, 2008 3:37 PM, Keith Major | Aquarius Telecom Inc.
