[asterisk-users] Recipe: Automatically Create Dial-able Extensions For Skype Callers
Here's a link to a blog post that details how to automatically generate alias extension numbers for Skype callers. Since most phones won't let you type long a complex text strings, this makes it much easier to call back to folks on the Skype network. http://ssokol.blogspot.com/2009/09/automatic-asterisk-extensions-for-skype.html Enjoy, -S -- Steven Sokol Digium Inc. | Product Manager - Asterisk 1568 S. [asterisk-users] AstriCon 2008 - Two Weeks To Go - Register Today
Asterisk Users - Just a reminder that we're now only two weeks away from the kick-off of AstriCon 2008. This year's show is looking really good: at this point we're expecting over 700 Asterisk users, developers, and resellers. There are currently 60 presentations scheduled, including keynotes from Brian Aker from MySQL and Stefan Öberg from Skype. The exhibit floor has expanded with more than 30 vendors. The CodeZone (the development lab and lounge) will have more gear than ever before -- Digium is providing a huge array of servers, desktops and cards, plus many of the exhibitors have agreed to sacrifice hardware and software to the cause. If you've never been to an AstriCon before, ask some of those who have: it's a great opportunity to meet other Asterisk users, recruit talent, expand your sales channel and have a great time. The content is 100% on-target coverage of Asterisk or related industry events/trends (with far less sales pitch than most conferences). The exhibit hall vendors are all offering goods and services that are relevant to the Asterisk users, developers or resellers. Register here: http://www.astricon.net/2008/glendale/web/attendRegister.php If you've not yet registered, please get signed up as soon as possible. The main hotel is rapidly running out of rooms -- fortunately there are plenty of alternate hotels within walking distance. Remember that prices go up by $100 once the conference has started. Thanks, -S -- Steven Sokol Product Manager - Software Products Digium P.S. - To those on the Dev and Biz lists: sorry for the duplicate posting, but we really want everyone to know about the event. ___ -- Bandwidth and Colocation Provided by http://www.api-digital.com -- AstriCon 2008 - September 22 - 25 Phoenix, Arizona Register Now: http://www.astricon.net asterisk-users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
[asterisk-users] AstriCon Europe 2007
Dear Asterisk Community, As some of you may know, we have held Asterisk conferences (AstriCons) in Europe the past two years. This year we are considering hosting another event, this time in Milan, Italy in late June. We would like to know how many members of the European Asterisk community would be interested in attending. The Milan event would last a total of two days and would include an Asterisk trade fair, tutorials, key-note addresses, industry perspectives and the ever popular Code Zone (a hacker's lounge). Topics would include both technical and business items. Tickets will sell for the same price as last year: 550 EUR. If you would be interested in attending as a delegate, as a speaker or as an exhibitor, please send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Let us know what you would like to see, if the location and dates work for you. We will be making a final decision later this week. Best Regards, Steve -- Steven Sokol CEO Sokol Associates, Inc. I would like to hear from both new members of the community and gurus. What kinds of things would you like to see at an Asterisk Conference? For more information on what we currently have planned, see the web site (listed below). So far we've had at least one person indicate that they would not want to travel to the US at this time. All politics aside, how many out there feel the same way? Re: [Asterisk-Users] Who is going to AstriCon (The Asterisk Conference)?
[snip] As for topics, I enjoyed Madrid, but feel there are 2 tracks to be seen there: 1) pragmatists - What can I do with Asterisk? Business Drivers. For them you want case studies, some forward looking announcements, and loads of demos of edgy configs. Plus economics - eg 8 line PRI costs £13/month/channel in the UK - but 40 in France (or what ever) True. We do have some business-focus. A few of both the tutorials and the conference sessions are business topics and industry perspectives. We want to strike a comfortable balance between the entrepreneurial community and the hard-core technical community (which is in some ways a challenge). 2) Developers - We want a chance to hack code with our cohort - the most productive thing in Madrid for me was 2 mins of Mark's time expaining why I had misunderstood IAX2 protocol. For this I think you could have a coding day, coffee pizza, good internet and a sprinkling of gurus, I think you'd get loads of projects started/finished/polished. That is an awesome suggestion! We'll do it! We have a room we've labeled the Email Garden. We'll rename it the Code Domain or something and try to get at least one guru to man the desk in there, dispensing advice as well as pizza and Red Bull. The room was already set to look like a big living room with lots of wired and wireless. We'll just turn it into a coding center. We can even bring in some hardware so people can lab up scenarios which require a full Asterisk with TDM cards, etc. (Anybody out there want to volunteer to bring in the hardware?) -S I'm not saying you want to separate these two, it is great to have the suits and geeks meet, but you do want to have some specialization in the sessions. Just my thoughts, Keep up the good work. T. FYI - AstriCon is October 12 - 14 in Anaheim. For more information on what we currently have planned, see the web site (listed below). The conference will have something like 50 speakers, 25 - 30 exhibitors, 15 staff members. It takes about 6 months of planning to arrange something like this. Olle and I have talked with the Digium guys about doing road shows for Asterisk. Not so much of a Conference, but a regional or even local event that's a combination of our one-day introductory class (yes, commercial -- bad Steven, bad!), a users meeting (code session, gab session, Q A with Kevin or Mark or Olle or someone) and a chance for local Asterisk vendors to show off their products, services, etc. The question is, which better suits the Asterisk community and business ecosystem (and we have to try to cover both). The big conference is great because you get 500+ Asterisk people in one place at one time. [SNIP] Olle and I had discussed something like that previously as well... but our concern was that the people who would want to be in there (the 'gurus' especially) would have other places to be on every other show day already :-) Well, I think we could probably find a roster of gurus who can each take a short shift (volunteers?), plus it still works as a place for coders to gather and work together on issues, review each other's code (Extreme Programming, anyone?) and swill high voltage beverages. Several people have already pinged me and said that this sounds cool. I know several of the guys in your office (specifically Matt Fredrickson and Matt Nicholson) said that their ideal AstriCon event was a code-in (imagine 50 Asterisk fanatics in bean-bag chairs on the floor coding away). I have also had several offers of hardware (including yours -- thank you very much!) so we should be able to make it work. (Anybody out there want to volunteer to bring in the hardware?) Neil Actually, we have thought about that too. The problem is scheduling so as not to conflict with any of the other shows that our major sponsors are doing (remember, they help keep the cost of the conference down). Within roughly week of AstriCon on one side or ther other we have the CompTel/ASCENT show, WISPCON, ISPCON, Telecom '05, Phreaknic, ITU Americas, and TMC's Internet Telephony. VON is only 3 weeks prior. In general the fall is chock-full-o telephony shows. When is a good week for everyone? We could move it to Boston 1 week prior to VON (if that doesn't step on too many toes and we can get things done that week - it starts with Labor Day). We could also move it to San Diego in October ahead of Internet Telephony, but then we compete with Telecom '06 in Mandalay Bay (?). I really want to make AstriCon work for everyone, so let me know if either of those suggestions would be a big positive or a big negative. (Remember that we would be on a coast either way.) Well, I know it's a bit of a flight from coast-to-coast, but the Californians, Oregonians, and Washingtonians (sp?) did it last year, so we figured it would be good to give them a break. [Asterisk-Users] IAX Phone Pro Beta - New Version Available
[ New Beta Version - Beta Extended ] A new version of IAX Phone Pro Beta is available. A few bugs have been fixed and the beta has been extended until October 12, 2005 (the date of AstriCon 2005). You can download either a new install (be sure to un-install the old version) or just a new binary. [ IAX Phone Pro Features ] * Dial/answer/hold/recall/reject * Multi-number advanced speed dial. * Standard and innovative Tool Bar skins. * Handles iax:, sip: and tel: URLs * Integrated web browser for co-browsing * Integrated call recording and playback. * Advanced phone book with CSV import. * Advanced call log with CSV export. * Speaker Phone * Audio mute. * Auto answer. * Intercom calling with password. * Multi-server registration. * Audio Codecs: uLaw, aLaw, GSM, iLBC, Speex. * Server-by-server codec setting. * Call statistics. * Local or server-side call forwarding. * Local or server-side do-not-disturb. * TAPI integration for Outlook, ACT, Goldmine, etc. * Direct IP to IP calling * Dial by IAX or SIP URI (URL) [ Try Out Phone URI/URL Dialing ] IAX Phone Pro supports the ability to handle telephony URIs (links). This feature is great for call centers or web-based contact management solutions. When you install the phone, it configures your copy of Windows to pass all links marked as iax:, sip:, or tel: to IAX Phone Pro. IAX Phone then does its best to place a call to the destination number. You can create these links by using the iax, sip and tel URI schemes. Simply use the following examples as a guide: a href=iax:[EMAIL PROTECTED]Call Ipsando HQ/a a href=tel:1000Call Extension 1000/a a href=tel:18005551212800 Directory Information (US Only)/a a href=sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED]Olle Johansson over SIP (requires the SIP-Over-IAX)/a IAX and SIP accept IAX or SIP URIs respectively. TEL allows you to enter any extension or dialable number. Note that your browser /may/ ask you to authorize each of the URI types (iax, sip, and tel) the first time you click on them. You must select OK in order for the calls to go through. [Asterisk-Users] AstriCon Europe: June 15 - 17 in Madrid Spain

[Asterisk-Users] AstriCon offers a most sincere and humble apology for the barage of mail...
Dear Asterisk Community, I would like to offer my most humble apology for the enormous stream of mail messages currently battering at your mailboxes. I was honestly trying to help a worthy cause. Please blame me and only me. Neither Russell nor Josh are at all to blame for this. Nor, for that matter, is Olle. I am the guilty party. Please direct all anger/outrage/hatred/etc. towards me. I have not yet tracked down the root cause of the error, but believe me, we will NEVER do this again. My one and only foray into the world of spam has shown me the error of my ways. Please forgive me. Re: [Asterisk-Users] Broadvoice asterisk patch
I can confirm that the patch is legit. Olle wrote it up last week and we have been testing the patch for several days. I have installed it on all of my Asterisk boxes and it appears to do no harm. The patch is necessary because (I think I have this correct -- forgive me if I scramble any of the details) the Asterisk SIP channel was not caching the MD5 result of the original authentication dialog, and was instead forcing the BroadVoice system to perform the complete authentication sequence every 16 seconds for every Asterisk system connected. Apparently this causes a huge drain on their application servers. If I understand the issue correctly, their SBCs (session border controllers) cache the auth for up to 20 seconds. If you re-register on schedule (within 16) the system accepts and extends your registration. If it falls outside of the window, or if you send a plain-text REGISTER, it forces a complete authentication cycle. This apparently applies to users running Asterisk boxes behind NATs more than to those with Asterisk on public addresses. The frequent registration is used to hold the NAT hole open. Thanks, Steve Ryan Wilkins wrote: I was just about to ask a similar question having just received the message. I'm more concerned about someone trying to spread a virus or something like that. You have to admit that the URGENT, INSTALL THIS message with an attachment pretty much screams virus, even if its not. [Asterisk-Users] AstriCon Update: Very Low Priced Ground Transport Available
-- GOOD NEWS! -- As ground transportation and the costs associated therewith are something of an issue. So, in the spirit of making AstriCon available I've contacted the hotel and arranged/discovered some low cost options: -- MARTA -- MARTA, the Atlanta mass-transit system (i.e. train) can get you there. Take MARTA from the airport north to the Brookhaven station. The hotel shuttle will pick you up from the MARTA station. Total cost: $1.75 each way. -- AAA Airport Shuttle Service -- AAA will take you directly from the airport to the hotel for $20.00 (normally $25.00 -- we will have a link to a coupon on the site soon). Same price to take you back to the airport at the end of the conference. You will need to make arrangements in advance with AAA. Their phone number is 1.800.354.7874. Details on both options are now on the Hotel Transportation page on the AstriCon site: http://www.astricon.net/hotel.shtml -- Conference IS At The Marriott Century Center -- To clarify a question asked by somebody on the list: The Atlanta Marriott Century Center IS BOTH the location of the conference AND the hotel in which we are booking rooms. You will have NO need of ground transportation once you reach the hotel (other than for making personal trips to locations around the area). -- Transport To Restaurants/Bars/Shopping -- The hotel has a FREE shuttle bus (the same bus as services the MARTA station) which will be available to take AstriCon participants to/from nearby restaurants and other destinations. You simply will need to make a request at the front desk. Please let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing you in Atlanta. RE: [Asterisk-Users] Astricon costs...
I was just in Atlanta and stayed at the Marriott Marquis. It was a nice hotel but it was not cheep. I spent 200 for a last minute booking. However, there is a train that runs from the airport and terminates a block away. (5$ one way) The Hilton and Hyatt are next door. The Marriott Marquis (assume that's where it's going to be held) is a decent hotel. Plus, the upstairs bar sometimes has nice ammenities. :) I hate to disappoint anybody, but we're having AstriCon at the Atlanta Marriott Century Center on the north side of the city just outside the Buckhead entertainment district. The Century Center is a different property from the Marquis. If we had held AstriCon at the Marquis, the event would be _much_ more expensive. [Asterisk-Users] Rejecting Calls (SIT Tone/Invalid) Across PRI
Question regarding a callback application: I have a client who wants to allow callers to dial a DID which connects over a PRI to Asterisk. Asterisk will be analyzing the ANI data from each call to that DID and if it recognizes the ANI, it needs to effectively return an Invalid Number or Not Found some-such message across the PRI to prevent the user from being billed. Being a callback app, the system will then queue a callback to the party. The question is... How do I make Asterisk tell the network to disregard the billing and indicate to the caller that the callback has been scheduled? Is this possible? Is this legal? My fallback is simply to not answer the call if the ANI is recognized, then queue the callback when the incoming attempt terminates (i.e. the caller hangs up). I've received my Aastra 390 phone. I got the unlock procedure from the vendor, and the services button now shows all four entrys as available. When I give the phone ADSIProg() the phone displays: Asterisk PBX download refused Conflict with: available The asterisk.adsi hasn't been changed: DESCRIPTION Asterisk PBX VERSION 0x02 SECURITY 0x FDN 0x000f ... When I change the FDN number to anything else, the phone replies Services full. Is the phone properly unlocked? Has anyone seen this before? Yes. The security and FDN codes are incorrect (at least for your phone) in the script. I just added a patch to bugs to fix this. Mark also just updated the VM code to include the proper security and FDN code for the Comedian Mail script (went into CVS Sun 5/23/2004 8:31 PM) so you may want to update your VM as well. Patch your ADSI script with the patch here: http://bugs.digium.com/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=0001709 Then re-run the ADSIProg and it should work. NOTE THAT THIS APPLIES _ONLY_ TO THE Sayson Aastra 380 and 480 PHONES. OTHER ADSI PHONES MAY BE HARDWARE LOCKED AND/OR MAY USE DIFFERENT FDN VALUES. I monitored his Asterisk for a bit and noticed that his IAX Phone, which registers every 60 seconds, always registers from a different port. Does this indicate that 60 seconds is too long, and that the NAT is closing the hole between registrations? I will try to find out what type of router/gateway he is using and post it. [Asterisk-Users] I'm in ADSI hell...
Folks, I am in the process of fighting my way through my first foray into ADSI phones. I have a very nice Aastra 480 from Sayson, purchased through Cylogistics. Very nice phone. However, my experience in configuring ADSI has been pure pain so far, and it's not all working yet... 1) The locking mechanism for these ADSI phones is... baroque? Arcane? Perhaps there is a reason why you would want to lock the services, but thus far I have not found any. The phone I got was configured to work with the hardware codes for Asterisk (as per the Digium web site) but... A) The current Comedian Mail does NOT have the proper codes built in. B) Once you manage to find the hack to add the proper codes, it appears to want to download the Voicemail script each time you call voicemail. Not so good... The Wiki doesn't have much on configuring ADSI. I will try to add something useful if and when I can get the entire thing working. (There's not much out on the internet regarding ADSI as a technology since it's a Belcore/Telcodia standard.) Does anybody have any suggestions, pointers, tips or a cheat-sheet for ADSI? I know it can be made to work. Several of the people at Digium have ADSI phones on their desks. What I want is the ability to query by providing: 1) My NPA 2) My NXX 3) My Local Carrier's ID Code (CIC) 4) My Intra-State Carrier's ID Code (CIC) 5) My LD Carrier's ID Code (CIC) 6) Destination Country Code 7) Destination NPA 8) Destination NXX What I would like to get back is a value indicating the cost-per-minute for the call (and if possible, the rating period - per second, per 1/10 minute, round-up to next minute, etc.) Apparently there's no regulation that requires the phone company to provide you with any indication that a call is LD, local-LD, intra-LATTA LD, etc. ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

Andy Powell Wrote: I'd like to give this one 10 thumbs down. IMHO a bad idea, a nasty little bad idea.. evil, spawn of Satan. If this were implemented the first job of a new update would be to rip it out and flush it down the nearest toilet. Just curious, but why does it strike you as such a bad idea? Especially if it was disabled by default. I can understand you not wanting your system security or your personal privacy compromised, but I think it would be great to have it in place for: A) Manual activation for those who want automated updates. B) CLI execution for occasional comparison to the current set. Perhaps it should be possible to flag the request with a token indicating that you don't want to be part of the survey, and you don't want your IP/host information stored. A --anon option, if you will. I can only wait until we see M$ like activation implemented... oh the joy... I am going to guess that you're joking. I just don't see that happening. Mark and the team at Digium seem dedicated to open source and to the Asterisk community. His asking for comments on this idea is a pretty good indicator of his concern for the community's opinions. It would be much better just to have the information present on either the Digium site or some other location. I see little point in wasting your valuable time doing something like this when there are so many outstanding issues and feature requests that could offer more. Perhaps Mark's time could be spent on other things, but I would still like to see Digium offer this option -- perhaps one of the other developers could head up the effort? Just putting the current version information up on a web page is nice, but it doesn't allow me to automatically query the system and discover known issues and possible solutions. I think that, for service providers that could very well be a critical next step. Several of my clients made the decision to go with RedHat based on their update service (for which they gladly paid). I would like to see the idea implemented, but I would like to see the above security considerations implemented (manual activation, a CLI option, and an anonymous option). I would also like to see the service extended into all of the Applications, Resources, Codecs, Formats, and other major components of Asterisk. It would be great to know when changes to both the core Asterisk engine and the associated modules are made, what the changes are, and also when new applications/resources/codecs, etc. are added to the CVS. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:asterisk-users- Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Lucent Phones Does Asterisk work with Lucent or any other PBX phone systems Sure. You can use Asterisk as a VoIP gateway to your existing legacy PBX. You can't plug Lucent's (Avaya's) DCP, MLX, or ATL phone sets into an Asterisk box -- the protocols are all proprietary. But you can certainly connect between the systems using analog or T1/Ei connections. [Asterisk-Users] Presence (was FW: pda skype)
Dean Collins just sent out a message a second ago (responding to an earlier posting regarding the new Skype PDA client). He said: Presence based information is the biggest 'seller' in the IP PBX market at the moment, being able to tell what/where a person is certainly driving a lot of sales through my door. I would like to take a moment to second his message. Every presentation at the VON show concurs with his opinion. PRESENCE IS LIKELY THE MOST IMPORTANT SINGLE ADDITION TO ASTERISK THAT COULD BE MADE AT THIS TIME. I know there are people out there working on or waiting for all kinds of features. And I understand that all of them are important in one way or another. But THE feature that turns up time and again on RFPs for VoIP phone systems is PRESENCE. Like it or not, managers like to know where their people are. Friends like knowing where their friends are. Everybody likes being able to communicate how they want, when they want. This is the next step beyond the follow-me/find me applications. Beyond the basics of VoIP. And this step is driving people to deploy VoIP systems (including Asterisk). Perhaps the gory details of implementation are best reserved for the Developer list, but I think everybody out there can comment on the ideas: HOW DO YOU SEE PRESENCE INTEGRATING WITH ASTERISK? ETR (Enhanced Tip/Ring) supposedly uses some variety of serial protocol over two lines to provide the screen functionality. The voice channel is still POTS. These phones are sold with the Partner system and can be added to the Magix systems using an ETR blade. Here in the states we could be jailed for trying to reverse engineer the serial display protocol (at least, in theory -- I don't know if it's been tested yet) as a violation of the evil DCMA. Anybody know about the other core Avaya protocols: specifically DCP and its cousin TDL. DCP (Digital Communications Protocol) has been used for years on the Definity line. Somewhere in the mid 1990s they cut it from 4 wires to two wires. The two wire version was ported to the Merlin Magix platform and is called TDL which I have been told means Two wire DigitaL?? If you have a large investment in the Avaya sets, it might be nice to have a bridge device to convert to SIP or H323 or whatever. RE: [Asterisk-Users] Redhat 9 OVER, Fidora Support, comments please.
Hi *ers, I recently got an Email from Redhat about the dropping of support for Redhat 9 on the 30 of April and that Fedora Project is the recommended future, otherwise, RedHat enterprise ($$$). Considering this, I would like some feed back on the Fedora Project from users who may be using it, and how its going with Asterisk? Are there any problems? Is the Asterisk development team got Fedora Project in mind and fully supported? I have four systems (one in production) running Fedora Core 1 without any obvious problems. Same rules apply for FC1 as for RH9 -- you have to install full versions of MPG123, Festival, libtiff, Postges, MySQL and some of the other packages that can be optionally used with Asterisk. ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
RE: [Asterisk-Users] The maximum capacity of MeetMe
I regret that I've only used MeetMe a few times, and only up to two users. Perhaps others that are using MeetMe could comment on the number of concurrent conferences and total users they have asterisk running with. The specs of the systems involved would be most helpful. I have set up a conference with four people on a very low-end box. The voice quality was very good. All four were connected using VoIP. Three were using IAX2 clients, and one was using a SIP hardphone. I suspect the system could have easily scaled much further -- the CPU and memory usage were fairly low. Jeremy McNamera told me that he has run conferences with 184 users (two of the Quad-PRI cards) with out any problems. I also ran into a number of users at the VON show who are using Asterisk as a conference server (including the Pingtel team!). As for system specs, I believe that Jeremy's system is based on a dual-processor (P-IV 2.4 GHz) Dell 1750 server with several GB of RAM. My low end box was a 1.7 GHz Celeron with 256 MB. ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

service, I indicated that VON had become Infomercial Central. I copied Carl Ford from Pulver.com on my message (he was acting as MC for the sessions). He quickly replied to my message, and the crux of his message was correct: the technology is largely in place. The next few years will be about marketing and evangelizing VoIP to the larger public. (The other half of the story has to do with a speaker who did not making it -- resulting in two ATT presentations essentially back to back.) [Asterisk Get-Together] About 25 of us (I think) gathered at the Mexicali Grill in Santa Clara for a post-show celebration and discussion. It was a BLAST. Even as tired as most of us were (four days of trade show can wear down just about anybody) we all had a great time. It was cool to be able to put faces with names/email addresses. I think Olle Johansson took pictures of the event. They may already be on the WiKi in fact. If you ever get the chance to go to one of these events do -- if for no other reason than to see Mark's magic phone. [In Conclusion] VON was interesting. Definitely more business focused that technology focused, but that's to be expected. VoIP has grown up. Technology questions may be addressed later in the summer at the VON developers summit (anybody here planning on going?). If you are moving into the VoIP business, or want to get a feel for the market, I highly recommend you attend the Fall VON show in Boston. Opinions are mine and mine alone. Unless I'm missing something, the effects of packet loss would be almost perfectly pessimal. Every time you lose a packet, the receiver stalls and then can't catch up, so you get horrifically huge delays. Does it actually gain something for anyone doing voice or video? TCP/TLS would be used for the SIP messaging which handles call setup, teardown, and other non-Realtime functions. The voice stream will still be handled via RTP which is a UDP-based protocol. The reason for doing the call setup as TCP is to allow for TLS encryption. The SIP messages themselves are simply bits of ASCII text (much like SMTP messages). Currently Asterisk does SIP over UDP only (I think...). In order to support SIPS (Secure SIP, like HTTPS) we need to build a version of chan_sip (or chan_sip2 ;-) that supports SIP over TCP. The voice stream will remain UDP an therefore not succumb to enormous delay. -S ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

[Asterisk-Users] WiSIP Firmware Version F?
Greetings, I purchased a WiSIP at the VON conference and am now trying to configure it to work with Asterisk. I have read all of the previous postings regarding the WiSIP and most of the information apparently does not apply to the version of firmware installed on my phone (version WF.00.0F). I cannot get the WiSIP to register with my Asterisk box. It leases an IP from my DHCP server, then immediately says Not Registered. I am running SIP debugging on Asterisk and I never see it try. I have tried hard-coding a peer with the proper IP address and that does not seem to help. I can neither call it, nor make calls from it. Any suggestions (or perhaps older versions of the firmware that work) would be appreciated. Is your sip bound to an ip address on the server? If the Wisip were making it to Asterisk and failing to register you would know it because it would retry every 2 seconds. I don't believe it is making it to Asterisk. I have tried changing the SIP Proxy IP field to both the IP address and the host name of my Asterisk box to no avail. RE: [Asterisk-Users] IAX2 as an IETF Standard?
Here's a recap of what I am hearing: 1) Everybody (thus far) is in favor of trying to standards-track (or at least do an Information RFC) on IAX2. 2) IAX2 needs to have AES encryption added prior to submission. 3) IAX2 needs to have non pin-wheeling NAT support added (i.e. support for intra-NAT operations with an external or extra-NAT located server). 4) We need to find somebody or a committee of people who can take the time to write up the RFC and (perhaps) research the process of submitting the RFC for standards tracking. Here's my additional request for the protocol prior to finalization/formalization: 5) IAX2 needs to be able to optionally limit an IAX user/login to a single session. I have written this up in great detail at: http://bugs.digium.com/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=0001164 I think this is necessary from a network/user management standpoint. Has anybody spoken with Mark about this? I know he was thinking in terms of creating an RFC some time ago, and as leader and owner of the copyright on the prime implementation of IAX2, we could use his input and blessing. Here is a link to the IETF's RFC on submitting RFCs: http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2026.txt Here is a link to the IPTel working group home page: http://www.softarmor.com/iptel/ It looks like we have to create an Internet Draft which is assigned to the relevant working group for revision, questions, comments, more revision, then it may or may not become an RFC. Unfortunately, the IPTel working group appears to be made up of people who are heavily invested in SIP. Is anybody currently active on any of the working groups in the IETF? Does anybody know anybody in the IPTel group? That may help us get started. Thoughts? grumbleOff Topic - WHY does the IETF insist on using pre-paginated text files as the official RFC format? [Asterisk-Users] IAX2 as an IETF Standard?
I have seen a number of postings cross this list that mention the possibility of standards-tracking IAX2 with the IETF (generating an RFC, etc.). Has that gone anywhere? What would it take to make it happen? Several of my clients have indicated that they love the firewall/NAT neutrality of IAX2, but that thus far very few equipment vendors have picked up on it because it isn't a formal standard. I agree with them. So far as I know, IAX2 is the easiest VoIP protocol to implement. Even with STUN and other complex/cumbersome add-ons, SIP is a royal pain to implement in most cases. The same with H323. In fact, the only thing that seems to be even close is whatever protocol Skype is using, but they're not open... On the other hand, there may be reasons, both technical and political/economic, for keeping IAX2 as an in-house affair. What do you guys think? RE: [Asterisk-Users] Softfax/spandsp
Actually, nix that. The first Standard resolution document went through OK. The next caused the same scrunched document effect. Is it possible I have done something wrong? Thanks Steve SNIP I am testing Softfax/spandsp with a Brother MFC 1870 MC. It appears to work properly in the default Standard resolution mode. However, when receiving a fax sent in Fine mode, the image is garbled. It appears to properly register the first 1 - 2 of the page, then the rest is junk. I can send you a copy of the resulting TIFF if it helps. [Asterisk-Users] Informal Astricon at the VON Show in Santa Clara...
Anybody out there either going to the Spring VON show in Santa Clara or live in the Bay area? I'm trying to put together an informal Astricon as an after-hours event for Asterisk users. Mark (and presumably Greg and Malcolm) from Digium will (tentatively) be there. I was hoping I could get a head-count so I can find a venue of the proper proportion. I _think_ the event will be either Monday night or Wednesday night, since Jeff Pulver has a huge party scheduled for Tuesday. If you would be interested in getting together, please let me know. No obligations, just a rough estimate so we don't wind up packed into a tiny bar or something. Are you natted (behind a NAT screen)? Do you have any other SIP devices connected to the same network segment as your WiFi Access Point? Are they working correctly? I would try turning off the canreinvite (set = 0) and, if there's a NAT between you and the Asterisk, turn on nat support (nat = yes). Hi Folks, Took delivery of 3 of these today and am having problems. Pulver tech support is pretty much non existant so I came here. Problem is this. Phone configured to talk to * as extn 3405. * shows that 3405 has registered and a sip show peers reveals its ip address etc. Make a call from the WiSIP to any extension and * shows the call getting as far as the native bridge. call fails after that point. If I let the VM pick up * plays the VM messages and then hangs up. At no time does the WiSIP think its connected. In the reverse direction, a call to the WiSIP gets dumped into VM straight away. If I call the phone by its URI it rings but the calling phone never thinks the call has been answered by the WiSIP. I have 711 as the codec and inband DTMF (which the WiSIP thinks should be 2833). Does the entry for your extension include the 't' option? Example: Dial(SIP/|20|t) The 't' option allows you (the called party) to transfer. In looking for a screen phone to use with Asterisk I came across Sayson's new Aastra 480i SIP/MGCP/H323 screen phone. It looks just like the ADSI phone but offers dual 10/100 Ethernet jacks and apparently some kind of programmability much like the ADSI phone has, but using XML. Before I go pestering the nice people at Sayson, I thought I would see if anybody here knew anything about it - including details on the licensing/locking scheme. If there isn't any direct way to do that from within the registration statement, how hard would it be for somebody to work with Mark and create an edit screen for your IaxTel account that allowed you to set the context/extension for the call to reach. That would make the number useful ONLY as an Asterisk DID, but that's how many of us use IAXtel. Thoughts? [Asterisk-Users] Anybody going to the Spring VON converence [OT]
I was wondering if anybody was planning on attending Jeff Pulver's Spring VON conference in Santa Clara. I am thinking about going and was hoping, if enough Asterisk people are going to be there, if we couldn't hold some kind of ad hoc Astericon or something. Perhaps we could rent a room at the hotel for an evening get together or something? I know Mark will be there. Might be kind of fun. Also, I am still trying to decide if I should go for the full conference or just a few days. Any thoughts? RE: [Asterisk-Users] Anybody going to the Spring VON converence [OT]
So here's a dumb question, but what's the VON conference? I would also be interested in talking to others using Asterisk. Chris [Steven Sokol] VON is the Voice-Over-the-Network conference put on by Jeff Pulver from Free World Dialup (FWD). It is one of several national conferences related to VoIP. This year will be my first, so I don't know exactly what to expect. I just figured that it would be a good chance to get a snapshot of the current state of the industry. My hope is to either rent a room in the hotel or perhaps a nearby restaurant or bar and get the Asterisk community together for a face-to-face. Eventually it might be worth having a conference devoted to Asterisk and things related. This could be a cool first step. If you live in the Santa Clara/San Jose area consider it, even if you don't wind up going to VON. I'll post the time/place if it works out. RE: [Asterisk-Users] Direct mailbox transfer
Actually, you just need to create an extension. Here's mine: Exten = _*55.,1,Answer() Exten = _*55.,2,Voicemail(${EXTEN:3}) Exten = _*55.,3,Hangup() Transfer the party to *55 (where is the mailbox to transfer into). There may be more elegant ways to do this, but it works for me. Yeh, but what kind of beer do they have on tap? [Steven Sokol] For what the thing costs, they _should_ have Samuel Smiths or perhaps Chimay (sp?) but like most hotels they probably have the usual swill plus Sam Adams. If we have Astericon, we'll BOOB (bring our own beer). ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
RE: [Asterisk-Users] IAX call problems
Rattana, I have had the same problem with IAX Phone. I think there is still something slightly off in iaxClient_lib.c or one of the associated files. I am trying to figure it out myself. Please send me any additional debugging files as you generate them. RE: [Asterisk-Users] New Windows IAX Client
I'll add these to the wish list. I just put up a new set of pages related to IAX Phone. You can find them at: http://www.sokol-associates.com/IaxPhone.htm One of the new pages is a bug/feature request tracker. Feel free to add as many feature requests as you wish. Thanks for the compliment. It has been a fun project. Always glad to see others enjoy the results. [Asterisk-Users] Source code for Iax Phone (the new IAX client) now available
The source code for IAX Phone is now available. You can get it from the downloads page at the main Iax Phone site: http://www.sokol-associates.com/IaxPhone.htm The package currently contains the source for the GUI portion of the phone, plus the ActiveX components that interface with the IAX server. The code for the lowest-level portions of the project (the iaxClient library that creates the WIAX1 and WIAX2 DLLs) will be released once the iaxClient community has synchronized. If anybody out there is a Windows coder and would like to work on improving this version (especially the stability) please let me know. If anybody out there would like to take on the challenge of porting this to Linux and Mac, please also contact me. Thanks, Steven P.S. - You can download the binary installation package from that same location.
