Re: environment variables?

2023-10-23 Thread Rob MacLeod
Hi Tom,

Why not just embed these settings in a .bashrc file (or equivalent)?

### Settings that are defaults--can be updated below

# Set up the TeX environmentals
TEXINPUTS=.:${HOME}/tex/latex:
export TEXINPUTS
BIBINPUTS=.:${HOME}/litbase/bibtex:
export BIBINPUTS
BSTINPUTS=.:${HOME}/tex/bibtex:
export BSTINPUTS

Best,
Rob

Re: Question about BibLaTeX and BibTeX usage in AUCTeX.

2023-04-29 Thread Rob MacLeod
Hi Zhao,

I have only dabbled with the various new version of Biblex as they have come
along in the 30+ years since I wrote my PhD thesis in LaTeX and became a
convert. I know from many papers, grants, and theses since then that standard
BibTeX works fine.

Of course, I do not want to sound like an old curmudgeon and I love new tools
and tricks. So I really welcome hearing from others on the list about
advantages with the newer forms. I know that there are features I would add if
I were competent enough.

Best,
Rob

Dear AUCTeX community,

I hope this email finds you well. I am currently writing an academic
paper and have been using AUCTeX for LaTeX editing. I am wondering if
it is always recommended to prefer BibLaTeX over BibTeX when working
in AUCTeX for academic writing.

I am aware that BibLaTeX is a newer system that provides more advanced
features and customization options, while BibTeX has been around for a
long time and is a well-established and stable system. However, I am
not sure which one would be more suitable for my academic writing
needs and would appreciate any insights or recommendations from the
AUCTeX community.

Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Zhao
