Hi All,

We celebrate 70 continuous years of gliding at Waikerie on Saturday, 19th
May 2007. This surely is a great (among the best) milestone in Australian
Gliding.

We will see some members return - some who learnt to fly in the Primary
glider, and other's who learnt more latterly to fly in the Twin Astirs - all
able to mix and reminise. Unfortunately - due to age or illness, there are
many who wont be there to share in the celebration - Joch Barratt, Ken
Reibe, Maurie Bradney - to name just a few.

There will be lots there who can celebrate lots of gliding years - Ron
Brock, Laurie English, Max Pennyfield and Geoff Horword (OAM) - to name a
few.

We'll hear Martin Simons talk about the improvements in glider design
throught successive models of all types (gets Martin's books if you need any
enlightenment).

2007 marks the 70th anniversary of WGC. 2012 (just 5 short years away)
mark's the 75th Anniversary. We want to make this a big celebration of
gliding in Australia/ Look out for you invitation.

The Pelican has been cleaned and polished for the occasion. She looks like
she could beat the best. We look forward to a great day (or two).

John Hudson

President, WGC.

[Aus-soaring] Sinha deturbulators

2007-05-17 Thread Bruce Taylor
Maybe everyone else has already seen this, but if not, go to www.sinhatech.com/
for some interesting reading.

The last two issues of Soaring have had Dick Johnson's tests of a Standard
Cirrus fitted with this deturbulator system, and the results are pretty
significant. Best L/D improved by about 18%, with big improvements all the way
till 85 knots.

Initially I thought it was simply the April issue and most likely an April
fools day joke, but maybe not. I wonder if he will make a kit for the '22...

Re: [Aus-soaring] all gliders need one of these

2007-05-17 Thread Anthony Smith
I have an one with an audio! She sits in the front seat of
the Bergy. Key inputs appear to be altitude, high climb
rates and unusual attitudes.

Interestingly she doubles as an audio altimeter too. The
level of conversation coming from the front seat is
proportional to altitude. I know when we are getting down
close to the weeds (and a long way from home) because it is
awfully quiet from the front seat...

Re: [Aus-soaring] Late model gliders to display at GFA AGM Melbourne.

2007-05-17 Thread Patching
Steve,
Past experience shows that you can only fit one aircraft in the area. Perhaps
RD's Duo X or DW's 29 but remember it has to be carried up the steps, which can
be a bit of a bugger.
Just a suggestion, but perhaps some demos of things like FLARM, new varios,
radios, GPS, 02 systems and glass panels etc might be a bigger draw card.
I would be happy to display and sell the (Aussie) FUN METER, I have developed.
Its called the CRIKEY meter. Our team decided it would cover the good and the
bad moments of soaring.
Orders happily taken.
Cheers
