Thanks, Keith For a v3 backuppc, I think it will work to use du on the pc directory: du -sh backuppc/pc/clienthostname This will include the size of a few logs/etc as well, but that data is also specific to the client. It will only count a file once if it is stored in multiple backups, and will also count files that are shared with other clients. Keep in mind, it could take a long time to generate the report and require significant memory, depending on the number of files in the backup, and the number of backups for that client. Not sure how this works with v4, I haven't considered that. Whether it is practical to rsync the whole archive directory or not will depend on the overall size and to a certain extent to the amount of RAM in the server. Expect it to take several days anyway. You can use dd to copy the entire drive or partition to a similarly-sized device. -- Les Mikesell lesmikes...@gmail.com -- Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most engaging tech sites, Slashdot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot ___ BackupPC-users mailing list BackupPC-users@lists.sourceforge.net List:https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/backuppc-users Wiki:http://backuppc.wiki.sourceforge.net Project: http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/
Re: [BackupPC-users] about migrate to a new server
Luigi- There is no way I know of to convert your V3 pool to V4, and I can confirm that it is impractical to try to copy or duplicate your V3 pool to a new system due to the way it is hard-linked internally. The earlier recommendation to run your New BackupPC server (v4) while the old server (v3) is available is a generally good best practice when making this kind of shift. -- Ray Frush "Either you are part of the solution T:970.491.5527 or part of the precipitate." -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- Colorado State University | IS | System Administrator On Thu, 2018-05-10 at 21:37 +0200, Luigi Augello wrote: > It is V3 and the new backuppc server have V4. > > I cannot preserve the old server I will return it because it was on > leasing. > > which is the solution. I've never worked with v4 yet, so someone else will have to answer this. It is V3 and the new backuppc server have V4. I cannot preserve the old server I will return it because it was on leasing. which is the solution. Can I convert V3 to V4 and after can I make the migration to new server ? Thanks Luigi Il 10/05/2018 21:27, Carl W. Re: [BackupPC-users] about migrate to a new server
Is this BackupPC v3 or v4? With v3, the number of symlinks make it impractical to copy data from one machine to another (you can do it if you dd the partition to a partition on the new machine, but don't try a file-level copy unless you use some specialized scripts and really know what you're doing). It's generally easiest to just set up a new server and keep the old one around as a backup until the data can be considered 'expired'. Much simpler and more reliable than trying to migrate data. For BackupPC v4 I have no experience. [BackupPC-users] Full quota for a client
Hi, is there a way of finding the full quota of diskspace used by one client system? That's the total space used by all the backups held for that client system. I'd prefer the uncompressed size, but compressed would be OK. I realise that some files will have been de-duplicated within the backups for that client, and we only need to count such files once.
