[Bacula-users] canceled job still in running job section

2009-06-29 Thread François Mehault
Hi All

I contact you because I don't succeed to cancel my job. This morning I have
numerous Job in running job section in bconsole. I have some problem that I
will fix but for the moment I want to stop properly all running jobs. So I use
the cancel command, then my job is marked canceled : JobId 28415, Job
X-Job.2009-06-29_03.20.00.20 marked to be canceled.
But the job stay in running section. What can I do ? If I don't stop the job
properly with restarting the dameon, I know that I will have wrong information
in my Catalog and I will have to modify the Catalog with query. If someone has
an idea, I will arreciate. Thanks

Regards

Hello,

Sorry if my english isn't very well.

I'm trying to configure Bacula to send me a mail after a Job (Succes or
Error, etc...). but i'm not sure how to configure that.

My Linux server is in my windows Active Directory, so i try to send a
mail to two of my Active Directory users (us...@test.ch and us...@test.ch)

In the bacula-dir.conf i'have try to only put the email addresses in the
Message ressource separated by a ; but it doesn't work. I think it's a
little bit more complicated than that :)

Messages {
  Name = Standard
  mailcommand = /usr/sbin/bsmtp -h *us...@test.ch;us...@test.ch* \ -f
\\(Bacula\) \%r\\ -s \Bacula: %t %e of %c %l\ %r

-f \\(Bacula\) \%r\\ -s \Bacula: Intervention needed for %j\ %r
  console = all, !skipped, !saved
  append = /var/lib/bacula/log = all, !skipped

[Bacula-users] volume statut Used instead of Append so Backup failed

2009-06-10 Thread François Mehault
Hi All

I have a strange problem today with my Bacula. Some jobs are running because
they are waiting a volume to write. Well I investigate and see that some Pool
have all volumes with statut Used. This is my weekly policy :

MediaId | VolumeName| VolStatus | Enabled | VolBytes | VolFiles |
VolRetention | Recycle | Slot | InChanger | MediaType | LastWritten |
+-+---+---+-+--+--+--+-+--+---+---+-+
| 395 | Client-Daily-0395 | Used  |   1 |  809 |0 |
 518,400 |   1 |0 | 0 | File  | 2009-06-09 04:20:02 |
| 414 | Client-Daily-0414 | Used  |   1 |  809 |0 |
 518,400 |   1 |0 | 0 | File  | 2009-06-03 04:20:03 |
| 444 | Client-Daily-0444 | Used  |   1 |  809 |0 |
 518,400 |   1 |0 | 0 | File  | 2009-06-04 04:20:03 |
| 527 | Client-Daily-0527 | Used  |   1 |  809 |0 |
 518,400 |   1 |0 | 0 | File  | 2009-06-06 04:20:03 |
| 554 | Client-Daily-0554 | Used  |   1 |  809 |0 |
 518,400 |   1 |0 | 0 | File  | 2009-06-05 04:20:03 |
| 585 | Client-Daily-0585 | Used  |   1 |  809 |0 |
 518,400 |   1 |0 | 0 | File  | 2009-06-08 04:20:02 |

Well, let's focus on the volume 414 / Client-Daily-0414, his volume retention
is 518,400 ( = 6 days), and it was written the last time at 2009-06-03 04 :20
:03, so I conclude that today 2009-06-10, this volume has to be Append and not
Used. Well, I use the update command to change the status of this volume. And
just after bacula moves the statut Append to User :

10-Jun 10:57 mammouth-dir JobId 0: Max configured use duration exceeded.
Marking Volume Client-Daily-0414 as Used.

I try also to reduce the volume retention and update again the status to
Append, but it's the same result, Bacula always marks Volume
Client-Daily-0414 as Used.

All works since 1 month, so I don't understand why there is a problem now.
Someone can help me ? I can provide you all information you need to help me to
fix my problem. If I don't find the solution today, backup will fail tomorrow
again.

François Mehault

Re: [Bacula-users] running jobs in DB Catalog

2009-05-28 Thread François Mehault
Well, I decided to see directly in the Catalog :

mysql select JobId, JobStatus, PoolId, Level from Job where JobId=27110;
+---+---++---+
| JobId | JobStatus | PoolId | Level |
+---+---++---+
| 27110 | R | 34 | F |
+---+---++---+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql select JobId, JobStatus, PoolId, Level from Job where JobId=27265;
+---+---++---+
| JobId | JobStatus | PoolId | Level |
+---+---++---+
| 27265 | R | 84 | I |
+---+---++---+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

As you can see, this two job have JobStatus = R (for running), and it's wrong.
I think I could do that :

update Job set JobStatus = 'T' where JobId = 27110;
update Job set JobStatus = 'T' where JobId = 27265;

but I don't know if it's really a good idea, someone can say me if I am wrong
or not ?
and I read also about dbchek, I don't know if this tool can help me to solve my
problem...

Regards,

Bonjour,

Client = client1 client2

Imaginons on a 3 serveurs différents à sauvegarder, on déclare donc trois

Client A
Client B
Client C

Fileset 1 /tmp
Fileset 2 /usr

Job-A {Client A et Fileset 1}
Job-B {Client B et Fileset 2}
Job-C {Client C et Fielset 1}

Encore merci d'avance.

[Bacula-users] 2 storages, 2 jobs, 1 volume - possible ?

Hi all,

I contact you because I need to understand very well the behavior of bacula in
a particular case. I have two jobs which write in the same Pool/Volume, but
they use different Storage. They are executed at the same time. In my Pool, I
have VolumeRetention = 30d and Maximum Volumes = 31. So I want to have one
volume by day. But, the problem is I have currently 2 new volumes by day rather
than one ! (with volume status = Append). I have currently 8 volumes, I
launched these jobs 4 days ago. Why my job don't write in the same volume ???

Thanks for your response,

Regards

Bootstrap records written to /var/db/bacula/labobe2-dir.restore.2.bsr

The job will require the following
   Volume(s) Storage(s)SD Device(s)
===

   LAB3Rep2Daily-0045LAB3Storage   LAB3Device

6 files selected to be restored.

The defined Restore Job resources are:
 1: LAB2Rep1RestoreFilesJob
 2: LAB2Rep2RestoreFilesJob
 3: LAB1Rep1RestoreFilesJob
 4: LAB1Rep2RestoreFilesJob
 5: LAB3Rep1RestoreFilesJob
 6: LAB3Rep2RestoreFilesJob
Select Restore Job (1-6): @sleep 10
status dir
Expected a positive integer, got: status dir
Select Restore Job (1-6): @quit

So I copy this line « restore jobid=160 restoreclient=labobe3
client=labobe3 where=C:/bacula-restores storage=LAB3Storage
pool=LAB3Rep2DailyCycle fileset=LAB2Rep2FileSet all done yes » and put it
in bconsole. Then bconsole ask me to define a Restore Job ressources.

So I search to have the same line with directive like «
jobrestore=LAB3Rep2RestoreFilesJob » or « restorejob=LAB3Rep2RestoreFilesJob »
But I had :

*restore jobid=160 restoreclient=labobe3 client=labobe3
where=C:/bacula-restores storage=LAB3Storage pool=LAB3Rep2DailyCycle
fileset=LAB2Rep2FileSet all done yes jobrestore=LAB3Rep2RestoreFilesJob
Unknown keyword: jobrestore

[...]

Unknown keyword: restorejob

I search the good directive. Then I could correct my webacula source. Someone
knows the good instruction ?

Thanks,
Regards

François

Yes, in fact I had the same error as you,
See in the log (maybe /var/db/bacula/log) information about the job which
failed. You will Schedule Time, Start time, end Time and Elasped Time.

About max wait time, you could find this directive in the ressource Job in the
director.

Give me this information, also you can see this page

Hi,

well I don't know wich Job is the culprit. JobId 0 can't be - I have
already 48k jobs and this problem appeared just a few days ago.
However the director is configured with this:
FDConnectTimeout = 3 min
SDConnectTimeout = 5 min

and every client with:
SDConnectTimeout = 2 min

I also don't have any max wait time defined (still using Bacula 2.2.8
- don't know if it is valid there).

Thanks much

Hi Bill,

I guess you chould achieve something towards that goal by doing a bit

Hello,
I think you can define multiple catalogs in bacula-dir.conf. You can say
which catalog each client uses.

[Bacula-users] report for bacula

2009-03-06 Thread François Mehault
Hi All

I would like to know what is the best way to do some report with bacula. I am
studying bacula-web and webacula, i read also there is script for logwatch.
In fact i have customers who have for each several clients (server) and i need
to have statistics (files, bytes, ...) for each customers. Bacula-web can't do
this. I will install webacula to see if it is able to do that. With bacula-web
i have general information and information for each Pool, job, but i need to
gather this information for each customers. Is there a solution to do that ?
All my Jobs, Pools, Volumes are labeled with the name of their customers.

In fact I have a ClientRunBefore and ClientRunAfter for my job. The
ClientRunBefore creates the directory BACKUP on the datastore (J:/ virtual disk
on the client ), it's a directory for dump of a database of my client
(bacula-fd). Then I have to save this dump on my freeBSD (bacula-fd, bacula-sd)
so my FreeBSD have to contact the dataStore via my client, that is why I put in
the ressource FileSet, the directive File = « J:/BACKUP »
ClientAfterJob removes the directory BACKUP on the datastore.

DataStore--
 Client Windows--

Just disks   |
bacula-fd

But i have this error
25-Feb 18:00 xxx: Could not stat J:/BACKUP: ERR=The system cannot find the
path specified.^M

And in want to know in general if it's possible to backup something on a
dataStore (where there is no DIR, SD daemon and impossible to install also a FD
daemon, just disks). My client is a Windows server 2003 (bacula-fd) , my

The short answer: you can't - not like that anyway.

The networked drive you create on windows only exists for the current
user or even the current session of that user. Since bacula runs as a
service, it will not see the remote drive.

You have 3 options here:
1. Mount the remote FS on the backup server and unmount afterwards
2. Install a file daemon on the remote system you want to back up in the
first place (unless you have a good reason not to).
3. Run 'net use //yourserver/share J:' or similar to mount the drive
using the system account on windows before backupping (use the
RunBeforeJobOnClient - or similar - command).

Option 2 is the best solution in my opinion as I found remote mounting
scripts to be error prone at best. Also, SMB/CIFS is slow as hell -
making me guess that a direct FD - SD transport would outperform a
backup by a factor 2 at least (if I look at my own network).

Include {

  File = \\myMachine\backup
}

But this don't works !

25-Feb 16:34 myMachine: Could not stat /backup: ERR=The system cannot find
the path specified.^M

How can i do for it ?

To save on the client machine we can with :

If you precede the less-than sign () with a backslash as in \, the file-list
will be read on the Client machine instead of on the Director's machine. Please
note that if the filename is given within quotes, you will need to use two
slashes.

Include {

  Options { signature = SHA1 }

  File = \\/home/xxx/filelist-on-client

}

But for another machine, i don't know :s

[Bacula-users] diffrence between full and used

2009-02-24 Thread François Mehault
Hi All

I would like to have a clarification about the volume statut Full and Used. I
read this page :
http://bacula.org/en/dev-manual/Automatic_Volume_Recycling.html#manualrecycling
and
http://bacula.org/fr/dev-manual/Configurer_Director.html#SECTION004615000

I read also that :

 Append - Volume is still appendable
 Full - Volume is full and will not be written to
 Error - Some error occured. This volume will not be used for backups.
 For restores - good luck :-)
 Used - Volume is no longer appendable by configuration (Max Volume something
 settings).
 Purged - Volume has been purged, i.e. the volume contents is no longer in the
 catalog

I understood that a volume becomes Used because job count or size limit
exceeded, but about Full, when a volume becomes Full ?

When the tape or dvd has no free bytes. On disk volumes I think this
means that the filesystem is full.

I think all this jobs are waiting for longer than 1 hour because they have
problems (Network send error to SD. - Bad response from stored to open command
- Network error on data channel...)
I don't want to change Max Wait Time = 1 hour. If i have problem on my
network, i think that change Max Wait Time for my job won't solve the
problem. :s
I have also Max concurrent job = 10 in my DIR, i am going to check the

Sorry about my english, i am a french student :s

[Bacula-users] Maximum Concurrent Jobs by default in the storage daemon and DIR?

2009-02-19 Thread François Mehault

Hi All

I would like to know the value by default for the directive Maximum Concurrent
Jobs in the Storage ressource for DIR and SD.

http://www.bacula.org/fr/rel-manual/Tips_Suggestions.html#SECTION0003518000

« The default is one for the Director and ten for both the File daemon and the
Storage daemon »

http://www.bacula.org/manuals/en/problems/problems/Tips_Suggestions.html#SECTION00517

« The default for both the File daemon and the Storage daemon is 20. »

http://www.bacula.org/manuals/en/install/install/Configuring_Director.html#SECTION0082

« The default is set to 1, but you may set it to a larger number. »

I think it is
Bacula-dir ressource storage directive Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 1
Bacula-sd ressource storage directive Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 20

Someone can confirm ? Thanks

[Bacula-users] upgrade 2.0.3 2.4.4

2009-02-12 Thread François Mehault
Hi All !

I want to upgrade my Bacula (currently in v 2.0.3) in 2.4.4. So, I install the
Bacula v 2.4.4 on another OS just to see the difference.
Then I realized a dump of the catalogue database in my Bacula v 2.0.3 and 2.4.4
to compare. I did a diff on my two dump and there is one thing which is strange

Bacula 2.0.3

DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `File`;
CREATE TABLE `File` (
  `FileId` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment,
  `FileIndex` int(10) unsigned default '0',
  `JobId` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL,
  `PathId` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL,
  `FilenameId` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL,
  `MarkId` int(10) unsigned default '0',
  `LStat` tinyblob NOT NULL,
  `MD5` tinyblob,
  PRIMARY KEY  (`FileId`),
  KEY `JobId` (`JobId`),
  KEY `JobId_2` (`JobId`,`PathId`,`FilenameId`)
) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=785251836 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1;

Bacula 2.4.4

DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `File`;
SET @saved_cs_client = @@character_set_client;
SET character_set_client = utf8;
CREATE TABLE `File` (
  `FileId` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment,
  `FileIndex` int(10) unsigned default '0',
  `JobId` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL,
  `PathId` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL,
  `FilenameId` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL,
  `MarkId` int(10) unsigned default '0',
  `LStat` tinyblob NOT NULL,
  `MD5` tinyblob,
  PRIMARY KEY  (`FileId`),
  KEY `JobId` (`JobId`,`PathId`,`FilenameId`)
) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=199415 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1;
SET character_set_client = @saved_cs_client;

More precisely:

Bacula 2.0.3

PRIMARY KEY  (`FileId`),
  KEY `JobId` (`JobId`),
  KEY `JobId_2` (`JobId`,`PathId`,`FilenameId`)

Bacula 2.4.4

PRIMARY KEY  (`FileId`),
  KEY `JobId` (`JobId`,`PathId`,`FilenameId`)

The two Bacula are on FreeBSD 7, for each I look in

/usr/ports/sysutils/bacula-server/work/bacula-2.0.3/updatedb

And

/usr/ports/sysutils/bacula-server/work/bacula-2.4.4/updatedb

For the first, about mysql I can see:

-rwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   3.2K Nov  3  2005 update_mysql_tables_8_to_9

And for the second

-rwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   2.4K Apr  1  2007 update_mysql_tables_9_to_10

I opened update_mysql_tables_9_to_10 and can read

echo This script will update a Bacula MySQL database from version 9 to 10
echo which is needed to convert from Bacula version 1.38.x to 2.0.x or higher
echo Depending on the size of your database,
echo this script may take several minutes to run.

So I conclude I don't need to execute any script to upgrade my catalogue
database to pass in 2.4.4, but there is the first thing that I find strange :s

It could raise problem?

Thanks

François

[Bacula-users] What is the best to do ? I need some space.

2009-02-11 Thread François Mehault
Hi All

I would like to know what the best to do is. Today, in my company, backups are
scheduled like this: Full every Sunday and Incremental backups other days. But
resources becomes fully, I need to configure Bacula to take less space. But
also I need to preserve data safe. So I would like to schedule backups like
this: full backup on first Sunday of the month, differential every other Sunday
and incremental backups other days. Is it a good idea to fix my problem? Have
you some advice for me about my problem? My Bacula is in version 2.0.3
(director, SD). I ask myself if I have to upgrade also.

Thanks

Thanks a lot for your response; I will try to play with retention times. Yes,

Bacula (we are currently in v 2.0.3)?

I have also to fix problem about jobs which are launched simultaneously. Jobs
are writing on the same volume at the same time :s, I am reading documentation
to understand very what happens. The behaviour of Bacula is the same about
concurrent jobs in v2.0.3 and v2.4.4?

Objet : Re: [Bacula-users] What is the best to do ? I need some space.

First of all, depending on your situation, I find that a full backup
once a month, and weekly differentials, as you suggested, can be a
pretty good schedule.

When you run out of backup space, ultimately the problem isn't the
schedule but interaction between schedule and retention times. If you
have, say, six month retention times for full backups, your proposed
change in the schedule will accomplish not all that much. You also don't
mention whether you are backing up to hard disk files or to tape - but
since you mention space rather than number of tapes I'm assuming
hard disk.

So what you would want to accomplish in the end is really to make sure
you keep only two full backups of each client (you could even try for
only a single backup, but at that point your data may not be quite safe
any more, so I'd say, two is the minimum).

Keep in mind that you will always need space for a third backup - the
one that is in progress or that has just completed.

You can accomplish that in two ways:

- stretch the schedule.
- reduce retention times.

So for the full backups, you should pick a retention time that is a
little longer than twice the distance between backups (it has to be a
bit longer because the you want the backup to stay around until *AFTER*
the next one has finished). If you do go for monthly backups, make the
retention time 65 days. I would use the same retention time for the
differentials, and maybe 15 days for the incrementals.

After changing the retention times, you will need to restart the
director and then update your pools and all the volumes that already
exist in the pool. Otherwise, changes to retention times will only
affect future backups.

Depending on your setup, you may also be able to add additional hard
disks. Do one set of backups on the first disk, then the next set onto
the second disk. That will keep your data much safer because you no
longer rely on just one disk to store your precious data, and it will
even allow you to take one disk off site - and at the same time, you
double your disk space.

 Hi All

 I would like to know what the best to do is. Today, in my company, backups
 are scheduled like this: Full every Sunday and Incremental backups other
 days. But resources becomes fully, I need to configure Bacula to take less
 space. But also I need to preserve data safe. So I would like to schedule
 backups like this: full backup on first Sunday of the month, differential
 every other Sunday and incremental backups other days. Is it a good idea to
 fix my problem? Have you some advice for me about my problem? My Bacula is in
 version 2.0.3 (director, SD). I ask myself if I have to upgrade also.

 Thanks

[Bacula-users] Unable to connect to Storage daemon

2009-02-11 Thread François Mehault
Hi All

I installed bacula-dir, -sd, -fd on a FreeBSD 7 LaboBE2 (10.96.18.10). I
installed also bacula-fd on another FreeBSD 7 LaboBE1 (10.96.18.4) and on a
Windows Server 2003 LaboBE3 (10.96.18.11) to backup.

I created some jobs, pool, schedule, fileset, client ... my goal is to test
Bacula, to understand his behaviour.

Then I tried to launch my jobs and problem :s

 Have you checked the release notes from SourceForge download area? There are
 separate release notes for each version, including list of bug fixes. Check
 the base bacula area first, though you were using some os-dependent
 packages.

 To follow certain bug fixes more precisely, have a look at bugs.bacula.og

Also, though not very convenient, you can use Sourceforge's svn
explorer to see the older versions of the ReleaseNotes files...
