Is there a particular reason why this petition narrows down the choice
to a particular Linux distribution while attempting to put together a
rationale for the usage of Free and Open Source tools in education?

BTW do take a look at
 scrollback.io[1].

Scrollback looks totally different concept, create rooms and create
 discussions. It has IRC/Twitter bridge.
Not sure if it can match all features of slack.

There is that other service https://www.waartaa.com/ and
Ratnadeep/Sayan could speak about it.

Biggest problem with IRC is to on board new comers. The learning curve is
 steep for normal tech users.
It only makes life for already acquainted users easier not for new comers.
It hardly takes 5-15 minutes get new person to get used to slack whereas
that is not case with IRC.

An anecdote_of_one: a reason Slack or, Scrollback like services are
often preferred over IRC/email is because of the asynchronous nature
of request-response. For example, you seek some answer and unless you
are logged in, the responses will not be available at a later stage
(and here if you'd like to come in with IRC bouncers, logging and so
forth ...)

Chat or, conversations are being replaced with messaging.
There's a small end-user-experience difference between the two.

Also, countering some of the objections.
- The learning curve is not that steep if you're using a GUI
client. You get a list of servers. Connect to one and then a list of
chatrooms (channels). Join #bangpypers with a click and you're
on. Surely people who code and learn coding can pick up IRC. Once
you stick on for a while, all the idiosyncrasies like the /
  commands become normal.[1]

Surely people who want to participate and contribute ... Let's not
limit these conversations to only those who want to code.

Today lot of participants come as it's a place to gain and share knowledge.
We should not be changing the intention of meetup by providing space for
hiring, it might turn out being a commercial space.

Am afraid allowing companies to talk about themselves and their job
opportunities might create conflict of interest with the company providing
space for our meetup which may not be good for us.

As a thought exercise consider this. Company A offers the space for
the meetup. On the day of the meetup the host ensures that there is
adequate material/swag/branding available that provide a guidance to
available opportunities, how to apply etc. And if you stop and
think about it, this is not too far fetched. For example, at my day
job, the external facing areas have branding material which make it
easy to identify with specific projects/products.

Asking companies to create anechoic chambers as a pre-condition for
hosting is somewhat untenable.

I would say lets stick to knowledge sharing and discussion about python for
 meetup

We already have job page on python India website (
http://python.org.in/jobs/). We should plan to work on that page instead.

How often is that used to be a platform for opportunities within the
Python community?

Otherwise we can have Bangpypers newsletter where we send meetup details
along with job opportunities as well.

 But my question is
What does Bangpypers get in return for publishing about X company job
 requirement?

A question in turn (although it is poor form to respond to a question
with another) - why does Bangpyper want to get anything in return of
the stated objective is sharing and discussing about Python?

 Was this ever answered ?

Is it very relevant and material to the Bangalore Python Users Group
that this question be answered in excruciating detail? If an
individual has an affiliation to the idea around which
http://www.pyladies.com/ is derived you'd be already aware of the
need. It is also possible that individuals feel strongly that this
particular approach might not be a viable one. Either way, there is no
reason, within the limits of what I can perceive, that the group
proposing to form a PyLadies initiative require to justify their
existence. The Python space is large enough to include everyone and,
welcoming enough to let all approaches do a very good job of
attempting to achieve whatever they want to achieve.

 hence this mail to Bangpypers.

Probably a ticket at
