Re: [Barry-devel] FC8 x86_64 NEVERMIND - Update

2008-07-07 Thread Frederic Herman
I have now done some testing on an fc8 i386 machine. I have the same
problem with categories as the x86_64 machine. If I try to set contact
categories on the pc side with kontact, syncing will fail with the same
apparent memory leak problem. Multisync reports a sync problem and then
goes into the loop where it is using most of the processor, and with top
I can see it rapidly increasing its memory usage.

In order to recover, I kill the process (os can't remember what it's
named). I then go back into kontact, and unset the category for the
contact which I previously set in kontact, close kontact, and then run
multisync. During syncing, I see (not sure if always) the dialog asking
for a conflict to be manually resolved. To do the fix, the barry-sync
selction has to be picked. The syncing then completes OK.

I hope this helps the developers to find the problem since this is a
limitation.

The rpms from your repo were fine. I still have some junk left over

through and cleaned up all the vestigial files from the system. I
rebooted to make sure I had no modules loaded and reinstalled your rpms.

The memory leak was probably caused by the library files left over from
 my previous efforts.

Barry is now working on my 64 bit machine.

So I'm curious, I've never actually been able to sync. What sync
configuration are you using? evolution? sunbird???

I built some, here's the repo url:

http://www.gnat.ca/rpms/fedora/8/x86_64

/etc/yum.repos.d/gnat.repo
name= Gnat Solutions Repo
baseurl=http://www.gnat.ca/rpms/fedora/8/x86_64

they work fine for me. I can also provide my SRPMs if you wanted to compile
them yourself...

Re: [Barry-devel] FC8 x86_64

2008-07-05 Thread Frederic Herman
Thanks for providing the repo. I was able to install the rpms.

However, after configuring with multisync, I ran the synchronization.
Everything looked OK, but then the sync hung the computer. Could not
even ssh in from another machine.

I repeated the process and had a console top running to see what was
going on. It appears to be a massive memory leak. I killed the sync
when it got up to about 97% of memory utilization. The machine has 10
GB of ram.

There was nothing logged in the messages file, so the system was happy
until it ran out of memory (both real and swap).

My machine is a 4 core (2 dual core chips) amd 64 bit on a tylan server
board.

I'm willing to try the source rpm to see if I can rebuild it. Hwere can
I get that?

Thanks for your help.

Forgot to mention--

The address book and calendar appeared to sync. I made a change on both
the BB and the pc and I think both changes synced both places. The
memory leak problem occurred after the first phase whenit showed the
number entries received and sent.
