[Ankur-core] Bangla OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 released

2009-09-16 Thread Jamil Ahmed
Friends,

It is our pleasure to inform you that Bangla OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 has been
released, which is based on the original source code [0] of OpenOffice.org
3.1.x.

OpenOffice.org [1] is the leading open-source office software suite for word
processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is
available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all
your data in an international open standard format and can also read and
write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded
and used completely free of charge for any purpose.

Some new features over the official OpenOffice.org 3.1.x [2]:
* Updated User Interface and Help content translation.
* Built-in Bangla dictionary for spell checking capability.
* Hypernation feature introduced for Bangla which is still in development
stage.
* Updated locale file for Bangla-Bangladesh (bn-BD) with improved collation
rules as recommended by Bangla academy [3].

Bangla OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 download links:
* Debian, Ubuntu and Other DEB based GNU/Linux [4]
* Fedora, Red Hat and Other RPM based GNU/Linux [5]
* Microsoft Windows [6]

Please send us your comments and suggestions.

Regards,
-Jamil

Dear Golam bhai,

I will check and let you know soon. :)

 Hi All,

Ankur English to Bengali dictionary project [1] has been serving
increasingly more and more users for quite some time. According
to Google analytics, Ankur E2B dictionary project has served
more than sixty thousands request in last month alone [2].

It has also lead to increased contributions. Unfortunately,
the project is lacking man-power to keep up with the
increased demand. Also, I am unable to give enough time
to the project lately and I don't see my situation is changing
anytime soon. Consequently, large numbers of contributed
 entries remain unedited [3].

So I am now seeking opinions from Ankur members to sustain
 the project meaningfully.

I would be happy to make personal request to anyone who
might be interested in helping the project by any means.
In case, you know of someone either from Ankur or outside,
who could help in this regard, then please let me know.
It may be helpful to forward this request to any other
 interested groups.

Re: [Ankur-core] [ooo-bn-trans] Pootle and Bengali L10n for OO.o

2008-01-31 Thread Jamil Ahmed
Thanks Sankarshan da for the announcement! :)

FYI, through out some boot camps in local universities in Dhaka, we
had around 10k strings translated for OOo UI. But those were not
reviewed yet for volunteer shortage. I think we can send those
translated PO files to the OOo Pootle Admin, who can merge and upload?
After merging, we can start using OOo Pootle fully for doing l10n.

 Hi,

If you read my hastily done forward-ed mail yesterday, you would have by
now figured out that Bengali is available on the Pootle instance
 provided by Sun/OpenOffice.org

 http://sunvirtuallab.com:32300/bn/ is the URL.

As of now, Jamil and yours truly have administrator rights ie. either of
us can tick the proper permissions that would allow an interested
 contributor to start translating.

Before you do request for the permissions, please do a read through
 http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Pootle_User_Guide. And please
use the ooo-bn-trans list to announce your intention to contribute to
 the translations.

Let's continue our work to get OpenOffice.org in Bengali.

 Hi All,

I am happy to announce the 'official launch' of
the brand new interface of Ankur's English to Bengali
 dictionary.

 http://www.bengalinux.org/cgi-bin/abhidhan/index.pl

Old bdict.pl link will point to the new interface for
 backward compatibility.

 Main features:

 * Dictionary back-end is now powered by MySQL
 database system.

 * Front-end has been enhanced by using CSS, 'bnwebtools'.

 * Dictionary search now includes lemma-based search
results by default. For example, if you search for the word
thought then it will also give you results using think.

 * To remove certain type of duplications, couple of thousand
entries from old database have been excluded. So number of
'EDITED' entries in the database now stands at 10,001.

 * Users can register themselves as members. Every users
(registered/unregistered) can contribute but only members
with rank of 'EDITOR' are allowed to take final decision.

 * 'About page' of the dictionary has been re-written. Please
have a look and let me know any correction/suggestion on
 this page.

 * This dictionary is now numero uno in Google's pagerank
for the most relevant search string english to bengali dictionary.
Naturally, dictionary access has now doubled to more than 20k
 hits per month.

All sounds great! :))

Dipankar-da: Given your suggestions have been instrumental
for this upgrade, I would like to propose your name to be
the chief editor of Ankur's Abhidhan. You will be taking
mostly editorial decisions. I will continue to do the
 technical maintainance.

Hope, there will be lots of surprising stuffs in future. :)

Please feel free to post your comments/suggestions.

 Cheers

Dear Golam bhai,

Sorry for late reply.

Yes, the new site looks great. :))

Btw, in Dhaka, we started to Localize one OOo Guide by next month.
Some updates are given here:

We were planing to try the Anubadok, but it seems not working. Can you
please check?

 Hi All,

I am happy to announce the trial launch of Ankur's new E2B
dictionary interface with MySQL backend. New user interface
uses CSS extensively and is available at

 http://www.bengalinux.org/cgi-bin/abhidhan/new/index.pl

This is a trial launch so please feel free to do everything you
wish. Please let me know your suggestions and/or bugs.

As Dipankar-da suggested, it aims to provide some sort
of controlled wiki interface. Every user (registered/not-registered)
can contribute but the decision of users with rank of 'EDITOR' will
make it to the main dictionary.

A full example of new interface can be seen here

 http://www.bengalinux.org/cgi-bin/abhidhan/new/index.pl?en_word=critical

I have merged (not in trial run) the database of GPoSTTL with it.
This mean this interface knows almost all English words. So
it can tell a user whether s/he has made a possible spelling error.

After this trial run (hopefully within next few days) old interface will be
 replaced by the new interface.

BTW, I have also slightly modified its logo :)

 Golam

[Ankur-core] Ankur l10n server

2007-06-30 Thread Jamil Ahmed
Friends,

You might know that we do localization (l10n ) camps in different
universities in Bangladesh time to time. But after campings, some
interested participants want to continue l10n through online. That's
why we have currently bought a Virtual Private Server (VPS) Hosting
and installed Pootle in it.

You can access the server from the URL below.
http://www.ankur.org.bd:8080/

This is still an experimental server. I have added Pidgin under
Pootle. Hope we will be adding more projects in future.

If you are interested for doing Bangla l10n, please mail me
*personally* for your account. Currently online registration process
is disabled in the site.

Comments, suggestions are welcome. :)

I think we need ZWNJ more than ZWJ. Whenever we want to de-activate the
Hasanta, we need to press ZWNJ and we need ZWJ only for RaJaphola. So ZWNJ
should come without pressing Shift key where ever the position is.

Just having support for Anandabazar Patrika

 itself uses three fonts

 Aabpbengali
 Aabpbengalix
 Aabpbengalixx

So above three will be definiely supported :-). The
way Padma works, you can add as many
mapping (font) you wish. Since I am mostly done
with base files for Bengali then adding another font
support would be like adding a new file containing
the mapping for the font like..

 yourfont.vowel_A   = \u00xx
 yourfont.vowel_AA = \u00xy

and you are done with your font!! Also, you can
add little script in it for some font-specific
 preprocessing, if needed.

great! :-)

We did not receive any responses from the original glyph creator, and
 cannot get
enough information to clear the background check of the font. What
 information
are required before the inclusion in the Fedora Core again:

For clearing the legal background of the fonts, could you help us
getting an ownership statement, mainly stating:
   - From the designers of all glyphs within the font and ownership of them
   - the origin of the glyph design or what fonts/glyphs is it inspired
 from.
   - the owner(s) have granted the license of GPL.

Just to clarify, the ownership statements need to be written by the
 original
owners (scanned document is great, but email is fine as well). Thanks.

[Ankur-core] Ankur's new GNU/Linux distro

2006-08-15 Thread Jamil Ahmed
Friends,

We are glad to inform you that, we have released a installable Bangla
distro based on Ubuntu Dapper.

Some new features over the default Dapper installation:
1. Customized installer: It will take less inputs then usual text installer.
2. After installation it will boot into Bangla locale (ie bn_BD locale).
3. Some important softwares are included, like inkscape, scribus,
fontforge, real player, vlc player, gparted, gnome-ppp, d4x, poedit,
mplayer, midnight commander etc.
4. Some codecs are included which will help to play various
audio/video files out of the box.
5. Some updated deb packages which were updated on July.

Some issues:
1. There might be some issues while installation if the CDROM is old,
DMA enable/desabled, S.M.A.R.T. enable/desabled for IDE channels.
2. If you put IP address during installation but there is no Internet
connection, then it will take un-wanted delays cause it tries to
download some packages from the Net.
3. Internal modems might not work/detected.
4. Let us know if you get any.

Btw, the codename for this release is Sraboni (শ্রাবণী) as the whole
development was done on Srabon (শ্রাবণ) month. :)

 Hi,

as the anubadok website points out, translating wikipedia articles is
a natural use of anubadok. This would be facilitated if there were a
 webpage similar to

that could work with paragraphs rather than words or phrases (much
like http://babelfish.altavista.com/). Would that be hard to do?

Yes, it is a very good idea. :)

I have also asked GM bhai to put a file upload option. So people can

I understand we are working with free software and everything should be
open. I expect that there will be open discussions about anything and
everything, but you must agree that at the end someone needs to make the
decision. I am sure that happens now as well, but with out making it
formal it may cause situations no one wants.

I just hope we pick board members who will honestly try to work together,
 otherwise

Who will be the Board members? Everyone is damn busy! I think there are not
more then 2/3 active translators now a days. I think we might need to hire
translators, webmaster, board members etc. :-)

o All current and future localization projects will be under Ankur
 Foundation

This proposal was made a while ago, and back then it was my expectation
that we can keep the localization projects under the parent org. However,
now I accept the fact that that is not going to happen. If most members
agree then we can remove this line, I just wanted to see how everyone
 feels about this.

If the l10n projects are spliting like bn_BD/IN then it should be under the
child org - IMO.

I have one request to everyone - don't take this proposal the wrong
  way.
It is not meant to divide the group, but an attempt to organize the
  group
to reduce tension and make sure our energy is spent productively.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worse.

Does it use Dict protocol [ie, dict.org] ?

Nope! The current Perl script that handles look-up
request is rather primitive type. Frankly, its
 a cut-n-paste from Anubadok's code :-) with
little but of optimization. I think, given the database is
tagged (parts-of-speech), converting it to any
other format should be just another script away!!

It will be a great help for l10n workshop participants. They need to lookup
certain words time to time. IIRC we had 3 PO files containing the common
technical terms. Are those terms included in Anubadok's database? If not,
can you add them soon?

Another issue. While searching if any word is not found, can u put add or
suggest button? So people can submit translation. Those will be in a
seperate db. You can verify and merge them with the original Anubadok's db.
:)

 Hi,

Almost an year ago I had posted regarding the revival of
Ankur's E2B dictionary project and how Anubadok's database
could contribute to it. Though having around ten thousands
entries is really a far cry to call it even reasonable
dictionary but its still better than having nothing.

I wrote a small script for an online English to Bengali
dictionary. It uses E2B dictionary of Anubadok.

 Here is a screenshot

 http://www.imsc.res.in/~golam/screenshot-bdict.png

Its up and running in IMSc LAN. Unfortunately, I can't
give you a live demo as its not permitted to run CGI in
 our external server.

So if any of you are interested and/or willing to host it
then please feel free to post. In case, if you have some other
suggestions then you are welcome to post your view.

 Cheers,
 Golam

I agree. I think, it makes sense. If I am not wrong then
shortcuts are used by people whose geekiness is
considerably high :-) Also, such users are generally
hooked to a particular desktop of their choice and certainly
dont switch between desktops every morning. So it is OK
and desirable (if needed) to have different policies for
KDE and GNOME shortcuts.

But we are not sticking only with KDE and GNOME. What will be for
Fedora Core, Mandriva, SUSE, Ubuntu, Debian, OOo, Mozilla, Gaim etc?
:-)

If we localize something personally we should stick with the same
standard too - IMO.

 Hi,
Thanks a lot. During the intitial stages i guess it would be nice to work on
CVS commits under your guidance. Currently no communication has been received
 regards the cvs account creation.

The Bengali India (bn_IN) language pack for 1.5.0.x is currently available in

 not
the required structure then i would be changing it accordingly.

happened around the time KDE translation was started). I was initially
against this, but Taneem made an argument that convinced me.

*Please* _hold_ the issue for some time -- as I mentioned earlier. Waiting 3
more days won't be a major issue.

I created this team in January. That time I did some
translation on tomboy in rosetta. You can't tell me
that why I didn't inform list. Bcos in the team page I
didn't use Ankur Group name as my Project home page.
So I didn't inform the list but informing would be
better. But you should inform the list bcos you use
the url of www.bengalinux.org as your Project home

I ask this because of my brief stay as a member of
Ankur Bangla team, I never ever had seen any such
hard and fast rule set down.
Generally we announce at Ankur Core first. I guess
 you don't know our
policy as you are new comer. :)

 URL to the policy please.

Yes, there is, after the FireFox Bengali issues. If
you want to know more, go to -
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=11839760
. In that mail Sayamindu told that 7. All project
coordinators are listed at
http://sourceforge.net/project/memberlist.php?group_id=43331;

b.ghose is there??? I don't think so.

Incidentally, if this requirement to post to core
is
 a prerequisite, how
come this has been set up just today:
 https://launchpad.net/people/ubuntu-l10n-bn/
At least BG had the decency to post to
 rosetta-users.

Bcos I asked you why b.ghose don't contact with me
when you saw that there is a existing group named
Ubuntu Bengali Team
https://launchpad.net/people/ubuntu-bengali . I'm sure
b.ghose saw that name when he did translation of
'tomboy'. bcos before him, I did translation of
'tomboy'.

This ham handed attitude of a section of the

 Bangladeshi Ankur Bangla
 volunteers is really very disturbing.

Exucse me man!! How many days you are contributing to
Ankur Group? If Sayam say this i'll not say anything.
But you can't say this.

Stay good. keep smiling.

Best regards,
Suzan

The team is not an exclusive team. Everybody is welcome to join it but
the issue is that we need to first talk to the Rosetta admins and get
the official status first. That's what I was waiting for. I'd have then
announced it on Ankur Core anyway.

There are several other efforts being made to Indianize Linux®. One
major effort, the *Ankur Bangla* Project, is a collaborative initiative
aimed at bringing Bangla to the FLOSS (Free Libre Open Source Software)
desktop. The core objective of the Ankur Bangla Project is to make
available a completely localized GNU/Linux OS and they have received
notable success in this field.

করে বঙ্গানুবাদের কাজ করে চলেছে অঙ্কুর। এখানে একটি কথা বলে নেয়া ভালো;

কেউ htp://ankurbangla.org/projects/ooo/ থেকে ডাউনলোড করে নিতে পারবেন।

Hello Friends

Unlike in Ahmed's FC system, on the SuSE 9.2 system, after inserting
the icu.tar.bz2, with OOOo 2, the 'r+a`' is coming, only a
'non-joiner' has to be inserted within, that is, 'r' + 'non-joiner'
(that will show nothing on the screen, the 'dash' key while in Probhat
layout) + 'conjoiner' (that is the '/' key) + 'Ja', this whole
sequence gives the wanted 'ra`', 'ra' and 'Ja-phala'. Though, as i
reported to Dasgupta, it is a bit cumbersome, but it works alright.

Hello Friends

Last night Sayamindu Dasgupta uploaded a tar.bz2 file:
http://sayamindu.randomink.org/icu.tar.bz2
that i downloaded and exploded within the 'program' directory of the root
directory of the OOo installation, which on my SuSE 9.2 system
is /opt/openoffice.org2.0, and so the directory
is /opt/openoffice.org2.0/program, and this replaced all the relevant
existing *libicu* files in that directory.

And this solved, thanks to Dasgupta all the 'ba' (ব) and 'matra' (মাত্রা)
worries on my part. All the 'ba'-conjoined characters are coming as they
should, at least in Soliman Lipi, the font i use. And the 'matra' is
behaving

as it should, that is, absent in case of the starting 'e-kar' (ে) of a word.
The very big ODT file that was showing mangled characters after i upgraded
to

OOo 2.0 is now showing everything OK.

Subject: [Ankur-core] Elementary Help: Ben and Ubuntu/MSW-XP

Hello Friends

I need some very elementary help on two things: Ben on Ubuntu 5.10 and
MSW-XP.

1. Jamil Ahmed provided tweaked versions of Ben that are to be kept in
'/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols' and '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols/pc'
directory. They are working well on FC3 and SuSE 9.2 systems. But, that is
not working in Ubuntu 5.10. Even the 'setxkbmap' binary is not giving
error
message 'cannot load keyboard configuration' when given directly the
address
of the 'ben' files, though that is working the usual way in FC3 or SuSE
9.2.

How to make these tweaked 'ben' files work in Ubuntu 5.10?

FC3 and SuSE 9.2 use X.org 6.8.1 and Ubuntu 5.10 uses 6.8.2

The change is, keyboard symbol files are now country wise. In the symbol/
folder you will get bd and in files respectively for Bangladesh and
India. Probhat layout [and all indic layout] is defined in this in file.
There is no ben file now. You have to hack the in file. :-)

2. How to work with OOO 2 and 'ben' in MSW-XP? Where from to get the
'probhat'
layout and driver and configuration files for MSW-XP? And can someone
provide
a step by step guide for how to make it work in MSW-XP? Is there any
how-to?

I know nothing about MSW-XP, but I have to give it to someone who wants to
use Bangla and OOO 2.

There is a windows input manager for Probhat - made by Taneem bhai. I will
send you offlist soon.

`Jamil

gconfMAK is working.
gnome-applets-locations SDG+RunaB, 2004
gnome-doc-utils
gnome-panelRunaB, 2004
gnome-system-tools RunaB, 2004
gnome-utilsRunaB, 2004
totemRunaB, 2003

All of the files above are from HEAD branch. So updating them will help
us on future releases too.

RunaB, can you work on your files or should we start working? Let me know
soon. :-)
well.. what can i say but that its quite a co-incidence that i had
downloaded the gnome-utils file this morning with the intent of working on
it sometime in the afternoon. :)

I would surely get on with the rest of it as well, since the ball has
started rolling...

Then you start working on following ones...
gnome-panelRunaB, 2004
gnome-system-tools RunaB, 2004
gnome-utilsRunaB, 2004

and I'll assign Mak+Sam on
gconfMAK is working.
gnome-doc-utils

Then finally we will work on this - thru splitting
gnome-applets-locations SDG+RunaB, 2004

tho there is one thing that I'd like to mention [again]... I am going to
use english shortcuts for the gnome files for the very simple reason that
as an end-user of the bengali gnome interface i find it very difficult to
use the applications with their dysfunctional shortcuts. Thats one of the
reasons why i was going to update the gnome-utils file... coz i have using
the file search... box since morning and needs lotsa changes.

If everyone agree.. then I think we all can start using EN shortcuts -
*everywhere*.

jamil, since we are working on the gnome files please do maintain backups
of the older files in case the original translators do not respond or
prefer not to work on them at present.

I am very bad for keeping backups! Btw, IMO we should always prefer Last
Translator to re-work. But if s/he can't then others [including original
translator] can step ahead. Anyway lets see. :-)

Yup.

I also have to setup some synchronisation between D-I repository and

About the graphical installer, things are moving on. The D-I team will
probably have soon some usable demo. We are in the process of

The next challenge will certainly be fonts. We will need font experts

[Ankur-core] Bengali in new Debian Installer

2005-09-18 Thread Jamil Ahmed

Hello Christian Perrier and Baishampayan Ghose.

I am Jamil Ahmed from Bangladesh, working for Ankur
[www.ankurbangla.org] voluntarily. This group is engaged in localizing
popular software/applications for Bangla/Bengali since 2002. Currently
we are localizing the following packages, officially.

1. Gnome – starting with 2.4
2. KDE - starting with 3.x
3. OpenOffice.org - currently on 2.0
4. Fedora core - starting with FC2
5. Mandriva Linux - starting with MDK 10.1
6. SUSE Linux - starting with 9.2

Yesterday I came across a mail from Mr. Ghosh on his efforts in
localizing the Debian Installer –
http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2005/09/msg2.html.
Coincidentally, we were thinking of working on the [Graphical] Debain
Installer too but were waiting for its stable release. As a result, we
had not yet contacted Debian. The work of Mr. Ghosh is exciting because
the preliminary stage is already over. Only the translations are
required now.

As we have experience in Bangla l10n, we want to share our experience in
this effort, which we believe will speedup the whole process. :)

We have a developers guide, http://www.bengalinux.org/devel_guide/.
There is a translators guide too. We use a standard word list, which
contains Bangla terms for commonly used English Technical terms- so that
a standard jargon is maintained throughout the localized applications.
Our volunteers come mostly from Bangladesh and India. Generally we
localize for single set of Bangla - usable as both bn_BD and bn_IN.

Indeed Mr. Ghosh is the only contributor for Bangla D-I at the moment.
But I think if we work together, we will be able to make the
translations usable for both sides much more efficiently.

Please let me know your thoughts. :)

Thanks,
`Jamil Ahmed

Then you have to restart OOo. After restarting if you see box box (ie.
no characters) in the menu entries, then you have to set a Bangla font
for Menu in windows configuration.

Glad to hear from you! but saying *sorry* is not a good excuse. ;-)

As for the OO issue - if I remember correctly I signed that back in 2002

no way to be sure about it. I'll fax them a new form tomorrow.

Great, then we can proceed on the folliwng issue soon:

Btw, join ooo-bn-trans@ mailing list also.
http://bn.openoffice.org/servlets/SummarizeList?listName=ooo-bn-trans

Once again Jamil, thanks for all the trouble you went through.

Welcome!

Actually it was my 3rd attempt to catch you, then I was able to keep a voice
message.
but at 1st your cell was switched off or disconnected and in 2nd time, your
cell's voice space was already full.

Interestingly your home number was always ringing but none was picking.

Btw, I was going through the core archive while trying to figure out
why Jamil was looking for me, and I saw Sayamindu's three part e-mail. As
usual he makes sense to me :) I didn't get a chance to read through all
the related e-mail/flame/bashing (?), but I think I have some idea on what
is going on. I guess we can not really avoid conflict, but we should
try our best to minimize them. Sometime I feel Ankur does not have the
structure required by a group which is involved in so many projects, and
the structure needed for it to grow. I think we can resolve/avoid a lot of
these conflicts if we were better organized.

With everyone's help I would like to make some changes in Ankur. I realize
I haven't been an active member for a while so I am not aware of the
project status', and new members who joined recently - so give me some
time to get up to date.

Pls don't go away again while updating yourself!
It's very time consuming to catch you!!! :-S

I'll write up most of my thoughts later tonight, it maybe a multi-part
e-mail like Sayamindu's. I am hoping to hear what other people are
thinking, and then we will decide how to move forward.

btw, given that this is the core@ list, not meant for the general user, I
am going to change posting permission for this list, unless I hear any
objections. It will still be open for everyone to read, but only members
will be able to post. The idea of the core list was to have a place for
discussion among group members regarding issues that affect the group.

That will be great! But already we have spread this core@ to the world for
communicate with Ankurians. :-P

Thanks,
`Jamil

Re: [Ankur-core] Query?

2005-05-10 Thread Jamil Ahmed
Dear Rezwanul Huq,
Sorry for late reply.
Actually our LiveCD is based on Knoppix. So every rule of Knoppix applies
here also.

Knoppix has no root password set. Every now and then Knoppix asks you to
give the root password. Hence it is necessary to set the root password for
Knoppix.

That goes like this:
1. Click at the Knoppix-KDE-Desktop at the bottom left with the left mouse
button on the symbol with character K in a (this is comparable with the
Start icon in Windows 98/NT/XP...).
2. Click in the menu that opened with the left mouse button at the entry
KNOPPIX or Ankur.
3. Click in the sub menu that opened at the entry Root Shell. A root
window opens. OR you can get Rool Shell by clicking the 2nd left icon with
Penguin logo beside that K-Start icon.
4. Give in the opened root window (shell) the command passwd.

Enter new UNIX password: will show. Enter a password (that you can
remember) and hit the ENTER key.
(A good password has at least seven characters, consisting of both capital
and small characters, numbers and special characters. A good trick is to
make a sentence and remember the first letters of the words in the sentence.
Such as: Knoppix = a d*mmed good OS!, which yields the password: K=ad*gOS!)

Retype new UNIX password: will then show. Retype the password and again
hit the ENTER key.

passwd: password updated successfully will show if you retyped the second
time the same password as the first time. If not you have to do the
procedure again.

And root has its password :-)
When you give the command exit the root window will close.
Now use this password where ever it ask.
More details on,
http://www.eleli.de/knoppix/docs/tutorial/english/knoppix_administration.html#3
PS. Keep in your mind that, after rebooting you have to reset this root
password.
And your installed application will be vanished too. :-)

Thanks,
`Jamil

my obligatory 2 paisas:

 AM = ,

AM PM are abbreviations, and latin ones at that. I don't disagree
with the translation, but it could also be counter-intuitive replace
AM/PM with words that are not used frequently. Keep in ming that if
and gets truncated (due to lack of space allocated
for showing AM/PM), people might think ..=PM and ..=AM
