Dearest Daisy and Buddy, You do NOT need to stow away. I plan to spoil you both silly! On the couch, allowed! On the bed, allowed! Snuggling? Demanded! By the time your Mom gets back, you won't remember any of the silly rules that you've been taught. blink, blink... Andrea - Chi didn't have a false pregnancy by any chance? Liz - the Mars Coat King might get there just in time for Maria to make good use of it! Make her show you how to use it to groom all of the dogs completely, I know how difficult it can be to learn how to use those specialized tools! Pat Long ( Luther - my house, MINE!) Re: blowing coat-intact female
Hi Andrea, You're not expecting visitors in the near future by any chance, are you? I've found this is a sure fire signal for females to start blowing coat :-). My two (spayed) girls are shedding big time, stand them head into the wind and it looks like a flock of blackbirds flying down the road! We went through all this in the spring and I thought I was over finding the black hair slicks all over the house, at least until later this year. But then they caught wind of the impending visit of friends from America and have been liberally plastering the house with their coats ever since... Good job they're Berner people and are used to hairy beds, hairy coffee, hairy tea-and-toast... (Hope I'm not putting my visitors off!!) Strangely Toby isn't losing any more of his coat than usual, but I suspect he's just waiting until the day before they arrive, just to keep me on my toes and my Dyson extra busy g. I've also come up with another theory about blowing coat, that the more you work to get rid of the offending loose hair, the more there is to remove... Re: blowing coat-intact female
Andrea, We forgot to mention the one sure-fire way to cause a Berner to blow a coat. Dog shows. The coat can be thick and lush when you send in the entries, but the coat is guaranteed to look more like a Swissy's by the time the actual show rolls around. Do you happen to have Chi entered in any shows? Pat Long ( Luther) Berwyn PA Check any e-mail over the Web for free at MailBreeze (http://www.mailbreeze.com)
Re: blowing coat-intact female
Andrea, What Liz Bradbury says about Berners shedding when visitors are due is absolutely true. Her lovely females know that I will soon be arriving and ready to groom them to perfection. Liz, I'll need some Royal Crown Magic Touch, thinning shears, a brush and comb and a large amount of treats (for the dogs). heh, heh. By the way, I have never managed to have a cup of coffee without Berner hair. not even packed yet, Maria Crifasi Home of Daisy (Stowaway I) and Buddy (Stowaway II) She would NEVER leave us behind sniffle Catoctin Mountains, Maryland

i know that hormones determine blowing coat in an intact female. i do not understand what is happening with chi. she is 17 months old. she had her first heat at 14 months. she blew her coat and hardly shed a hair since then (up until last week), now he hair is flying out. it is all over the place big time. she is healthy, has been on an herbal formula for fly biting for the last three months. she did travel with me to ohio for a petmassage course, but loved every minute of it and came back much more daring. any ideas? andrea and chi
