[Blackbelly] Also new here:)

2010-06-17 Thread Tashia Lund
Hi everyone,

I am also new here. I have been working towards my dream of a small farm it
seems like forever. We started on 1/2 acre with our stockdogs and for training
them we used Indian Runners. But I really wanted the sheep and land:)

So last Dec. 31 we bought our 10 acre farmstead. I saw ABBs a couple of years
ago and did a lot of research and they have always been up my ally. We are in
the process of putting up 5 strand electric for our outer fence line. Plus
field fencing on the training fields. We will have 150 x 150 training pasture,
150 x 300 training pasture, a round pen, and 350 pasture where we can practice
blind outruns.

We plan on improving the pasture and using rotational grazing. We are adding
pygmy goats this year and will be having welsh harlequin ducking next year,
plust hopfully I will be able to add the ABBs next year.

Boy did one demo I saw when I was 13 years old really started a whole new
life:) Border Collies, ABBs, Pygmy goats, and welsh harlequins.

Have a great day everyone and thank you for the wonderful information you post.

Are there any ABB breeders in MN, SD, WI, or IA?

[Blackbelly] Fencing

2010-06-17 Thread Carla Amonson
We use electric page wire on our exterior fencing from Powerflex (MO) and 3
strands of electric high tensile for the cross fencing. If trained properly,
everyone stays in, even the Soays. One thing that you can do to really increase
the effectiveness is a live earth (or ground) return system where there are
ground wires in the fence as well, so you run 7 strands. 2 of them are then
grounds on the bottom second and fourth wires. So, when the sheep touches hot
they touch ground too and really get a shock.
Very important to is to have the best fencer you can afford. Sheep need way
bigger fencers than cattle or horses. And equally important, sufficiant ground
rods. Do your homework and talk to a proffessional, not just your local ag
supply store, talk to an electric fencing company to set up your fence. It can
also be very good predator/dog control if it is a live ground return system.

[Blackbelly] mid JUL/AUG trip planning in full swing (2)

2010-06-17 Thread Ron Keener

hello everyone!

the mid JUL/AUG coast to coast transport trip is taking shape!

attention BOER breeders - the trip will start at the Elite Coalition
sale in Texarkana AR on July 17th - I can immediately take animals from
the sale going west, northwest, and north - I have definite reservations
for animals not going through the sale going to OR/WA - it is quite
possible that I can make a clockwise loop of the west coast including CA
- there also may be a way to board purchases going eastbound until I am
able to complete the west coast loop - all you have to do is ask!

after I unload in OR/WA I will immediately pick up a large load going to
MN PA and TX - that means I will be making a clockwise loop of the
entire lower 48 states going eastbound along the northern routes - there
is still lots of opportunity to extend this trip into the southeast
states and back westbound from TX if needed

my trip routes are determined by riders with reservations -
the earlier you make reservations the more likely I am to
use your transport to 'define' my route - waiting too late
may mean that I am not able to make the necessary zig zags
to pick up/drop off your animals

I always need pick up city/state, drop off city/state,
and a brief description of the animals in every email please

if there are timing restrictions or complications (export)
please inform me of your needs and schedules

I do not monitor the groups closely so please reply directly
to my private email address at rkee...@realtime.net

payment is due on delivery - I can take cash, bank check, MO, and PayPal

there is no contract other than your word via email

after the JUL/AUG trip the next 'bus' service trip will be late SEP/OCT
- between bus trips PremierLimo trips can be made as needed

questions?

all animals crossing a state line must have vet inspection
papers before they can legally be transported

TravelWithRonK is dedicated to coast to coast transport of
small quantities of small livestock with 3000 animals
transported in 10 years of service
