You'll have to probably create a bugzilla account using your
lfs email addy.

Bugzilla Interface Improvements

2005-06-16 Thread Matthew Burgess

Hi guys,

Do any of you find that Bugzilla's interface is counterintuitive at
times? I'm particularly thinking of the following scenario which has
just bitten myself and Archaic recently:

1) User submits a new bug.
   i. Status = UNCONFIRMED
   ii. Owner = lfs-book@linuxfromscratch.org

2) We naively log into bugzilla and 'Accept' the bug
   i. Status = ASSIGNED (great!)
   ii. Owner = lfs-book@linuxfromscratch.org (whoops!)

OK, this behaviour is detailed in
http://www.faqs.org/docs/bugzilla/faq.html#faq-use-accept but it isn't
what I expected, nor apparently what Archaic expected either - we
thought it'd assign the bug to the user we logged in as.

So now we do:

3) Reassign bug to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
i. Status = NEW (ouch!)
ii. Owner = [EMAIL PROTECTED] (great!).

and finally

4) Accept Bug
  i. Status = ASSIGNED (great!)
ii. Owner = [EMAIL PROTECTED] (great!).

So, it's now taken us 4 steps to assign a bug to ourselves!

Sorry for the long explanation, I just thought it necessary to point out
the pain we've just been through. So, do you guys suffer from the same,
or have you got a workaround for this cumbersome workflow?

Regards,

Matt.

Lovely, thanks. I added a note to the bugzilla bug in bugzilla about
this :) In the meantime, the easiest way around this seems to be to
'Reassign bug to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]' then 'Accept Bug'. That's
just two steps instead of the 4 it took earlier on.

That works, but I have generally been doing the 'reassign bug' and
lately been not bothering with the state. If a name on it, the
difference between new and assigned seems to be moot.

Except for folks like me who have a favorites in the browser set up
to look at BLFS bugs, filtered by New and Reopened. This shows me
all the bugs that need fixing that someone hasn't spoken for already,
except for the ones that Bruce has spoken for. :-)
