...or it would be really nice to have dedicated forum for discussing the stuff like this? or both? Hi. I read in your previous mail you have an audio workstation. May I ask you if you know about softwares like Sibelius or Steinberg Cubase SX and/or libraries like the ones of Native Instruments? Don't tell me about Brahms 'cause it's not worthy. Yeah, I know about it but it doesn't fit my needs. Sibelius, Steinberg and Native Instruments products are steps higher; these are softwares I normally use (running Mac OS X and Windows machines), they are surely a money investment but worthy. I also use some hardware whose drivers are non-existent for linux. Anyway thanks, Luca -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page

...or it would be really nice to have dedicated forum for discussing the stuff like this? or both? The blfs wiki is intended for just this kind of thing. http://wiki.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/wiki/BlfsNotes well, i was confused a bit since i thought that blfs wiki is for blfs apps. but if it's not only for blfs apps, My understanding of it was the same as yours. As far as I can tell, the only thing that links to the Wiki is the book. Personally, when I clicked on user notes in the book, what I expected to find was information pertinent to the package I was building. Also, the Wiki as it's currently set up follows the book w respect to the order it's in; we're not always going to be able to do that, particularly when dealing with something that isn't in the book. That said, it looks like that Wiki could accommodate both. But, it would take a little doing. So long as there was another way in to it in addition to through the BLS book, it might prove to be a very good place to start off with this and see how much interest there is. ... i'm certainly going to give it a try (after finishing my new shiny amd64 build :)) I'll admit it; I love my x2. The more I use it, the better I like true 64 mode, too. 32-bit or 64-bit, it's a fast chip. I still think we need a separate forum; particularly while this first gets rolling, I think effective communication is going to be a deciding factor w respect to whether this gets off the ground or ends up being yet another flash in the pan. - Larry -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
Re: Discussion of BLFS, LFS, etc. current and new versions
Also, I ended up doing a number of things that aren't in the book but very well could be; I wouldn't mind writing them up. A few things come to mind that might also be good tips / hints / etc. Again, though, I'm not sure what the right way to go about submitting something like that is. my lfs system is a digital audio workstation, and i'd like to share my experience too. another beyond-blfs thing i have is GNUstep desktop. there was also quite a lot of tuning and build procedure modifications to get maximum performance. i think, our community should have some dedicated resource to put there the stuff like that. (and writing plain-text hints is not that really good as for the xxi century.) to keep things consistent... maybe we should start beyond blfs project? should it be yet another wiki ... I would very much like to discuss XULRunner / embedded mozilla - embedded gecko engine apps [snip] ...or it would be really nice to have dedicated forum for discussing the stuff like this? or both? -- sex, freeride, open source! -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page

That sounds (no pun intended) very interesting; I would very much like to know more about not just the end product, but how you built it - including what design decisions were involved and why they were made one way or the other, ... Even after appx. 30 years I've still barely scratched the surface of things I would like to explore in computing (which is part of the reason it's kept my interest for 30 some years). Every time I reinvent the wheel to explore one, that's that many less I'll ultimately have the opportunity to investigate. i think, our community should have some dedicated resource to put there the stuff like that. (and writing plain-text hints is not that really good as for the xxi century.) to keep things consistent... maybe we should start beyond blfs project? should it be yet another wiki ... Sounds good to me. I'm still getting acquainted with the whole Wiki thing and am not quite up to speed (yet) on creating content, etc., but from what I've seen, it certainly seems like that format would work well. I would very much like to discuss XULRunner / embedded mozilla - embedded gecko engine apps [snip] ...or it would be really nice to have dedicated forum for discussing the stuff like this? or both? My $0.02 is both; I think they would naturally complement each other. And, if it's at all possible, I would very much like to see them (Wiki and forum) integrated somehow into the existing LFS/BLFS/CLFS/etc.project / effort - assuming, of course, that those responsible for it are into doing this. Hopefully, this'll go somewhere... - Larry -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page

Discussion of BLFS, LFS, etc. current and new versions
From what I can gather, there's an ongoing discussion w/ respect to current and future LFS and BLFS books, etc. Could someone point me to it?
