Hi Larry,
Interesting question!
I take it you want to insert this into some type of document?

Hi folks,

Are any of you aware of a windows keystroke that will create
a check mark?
I searched the file on windows key strokes and couldn't find
anything.

Thanks

Re: [Blind-Computing] Check mark

2007-07-11 Thread Jacob Kruger
If you knew the actual ascii character code of that character, you can use
the alt + numpad numbers combination to type any character, or if you use
Jaws, you can use Ins. + 4 on the number row to 'type' a special character,
but not sure if that includes the checkmark as such.

Hi all,
Well I went to my local PC World today to have my memory upgraded from
256 MB to 512 MB, and I have certainly noticed a difference. Windows
loads in less than a minute, programmes load faster and are more
responsive, and, well, it's fantastic! So thanks all for recommending
that I get my RAM upgraded, and I will certainly enjoy this now very
fast machine! Christopher Hallsworth

Re: [Blind-Computing] KCONVERTING TEXT FILES TO VOICE FOR RECORDING

2007-07-11 Thread John Justice
I agree David. Although I am having one interesting problem. I did a batch
conversion from .rtf files to .mp3. In every case, the last few words of
the text were bitten off. I thought it was a fluke so I did it again and
got the same results. If anyone knows something about TextAloud, I sure
could use some pointers. I have also made a request for help from the
support group at nextup.com but they aren't very fast in responding to
requests for assistance.
I am sure that there's a solution but I don't know what it is just yet. If
anyone can shorten this trip for me, I'd appreciate that.
All in all though, I like TextAloud and it does exactly what I want it to
do.
For the recorde, the biting off process seems to occur when you convert
to .mp3.
When the file is read directly, that doesn't happen.

Text Aloud does a great job in this area for around $40.

 Hi Folks,

I also believe that Open Book does convert text files to spoken MP3 files,
although the price is out there in comparison to others that might be just
as good, but I haven't investigated those possibilities.

Just thought I'd point out another possible solution.

 Victor

Hi,
If you are talking about the key on the keyboard next to the scroll lock,
that key is sometimes referred to as the Break or as JAWS calls it the Pause
key.

Hello:

Thanks for the information. I had previously tried to find out if I had
service pack 2, but I do not know what the break key is. I tried
reconfiguring Internet Explorer anyway, but it did not help. I also
tried alt n with no results. Today I tried clicking on the link while
holding down the shift key and the new window opened.
Now I am happy!

Thanks again,
