Re: [Blind-Computing] Setting language display in vista

2007-10-14 Thread torgersonenator
Hi Rick,
That did the trick. I was finally able to set the language to English,
then the JAWS authorization program was happy. One odd side note. When I
went to Microsoft and tried to down load back grounds for the E-Mail program
I received a message stating that JAWS was not authorized for this
language... again. Also the back grounds did not download. I am OK with this
but it just makes me wonder what is the computer thinking?

God bless,
Mark

Control panel and then regional settings. there is a combo box tab to it
and select English. then tab to ok and press enter. I think that will do
 it for you.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Setting language display in vista

 Hi
I need guidance in setting the language display in vista. The person
who was helping me set up the computer tried there best to set the
 language
to English but the calendar and date appeared to stay in something like
Hebrew. Also, when I tried to authorize JAWS I received the message that I
need to contact freedom scientific to gain authorization for this
 language.
Thus I can not authorize JAWS until I change the basic language on my
computer to English. How do I go about changing the computers language in
 vista?
 Thank you for your help.

 God bless,

Re: [Blind-Computing] Line-In Mutes Speakers

2007-10-14 Thread DoubleLegal
I think you are talking about the Mute check boxes. They are not checked.
I think that JAWS is just not reading things to me that I need to see.

I have line in checked for the recording input, and the line in mute
box unchecked in the volume/playback section. Still, my speakers are muted
when I plug in the line fro the cassette into the line in jack in the back.

Are there any other setting that I might be missing in windows somewhere?

Thanks.

I'm not sure but let's try and take things one at a time. Now when I do such
a thing the deck gets hooked into the line in port first of all. Next I set
gold wave mostly or what ever recorder I'm planning on using at that point
to the correct setting. In this case line in. That normally works for me
without fail.

[Blind-Computing] problems with Microsoft word

2007-10-14 Thread Melvin Reynolds
Hey all,
Yesterday when I tried to create a new document I got the message that the
template was not available or that the program could not use the template
that was selected. The problem gets worse. When I tried to open any of my
document files from my document folder it told me that they could not be
found because the address was wrong. I even tried to get to one of them
through a short on my desk top with the same results. I have several
reports due Tuesday and really need some help. Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Re: [Blind-Computing] All users of outlook express really need to readthis one particular webpag.

2007-10-14 Thread John Justice
This is excellent stuff Jason. I recommend that anyone save this entire
page for later reference. It is the most comprehensive set of tools I have
seen yet for working with Outlook Express problems.

CAUTION:

Some of the processes outlined here are extremely dangerous to the health of
your Outlook Express program. They should only be used in an emergency and
the cautions imbedded in these directions should not be taken lightly.

What could happen?

The worst would be the complete failure of Outlook Express. The solution of
course would be to re-load the entire Internet Explorer program including
Outlook Express.

Thanks again Jason for a really fine piece of information.

I'm pretty certain there are a lot of us blindies who use O E on a
 permanent basis for email.
Well, O E really has some shady and important things you need
to know about it if you don't want an y of the following to happen:
 inbox disappears,
 folder structure gets damaged,
sluggish performance (unlike the way it was when you first started using
 it),
 message rules stop working,
 special folders stop being special,
 and more.
 Note to author here:
Make sure to tell all users of outlook express not just to bookmark or
save, but read the following web page, in its entirety:
 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/columns/filecorruption.mspx
I hope this enlightens everyone on the show as the outlook express
 turns, lol.
On tomorrow's episode, well, i don't know what will be on, I'll just play
 it by ear, rofl!

Re: [Blind-Computing] problems with Microsoft word

2007-10-14 Thread David Griffith
If I understand this you can no longer locate your files.
This could be several things. Do you use an external drive to save your
documents on? These can sometimes change drive letter and can confuse
shortcuts and file locations. Hopefully you do not have a corrupted disc.
Make sure that in future you regularly back up important files to avoid this
hassle but we have probably all been where you are now. Lessons are learnt
hard.

I suggest that you try the following 3 steps.

1. Try to locate your files through recent documents in either start menu or
at the end of the file menu in Word. If this works use save as to tab
around the dialogue box to see where the file is located.
2. If this does not work press windows key plus E to open Explorer. Cursor
up once to My Documents - Press tab and investigate what files are in My
Documents and see if you can locate the files you need.
3. If this does not work use a wild card search the search on the start
menu.
Type *.doc as your search string and all the word Documents on your computer
should be found. Type *.dot for the template files.

Best of luck

David Griffith

[Blind-Computing] Some problems in Windows Vista with calling email and internet addresses

2007-10-14 Thread Demetry
Hi friends,

Following problem: I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium and Jaws 8 and 9
(Public Beta). For programs can not be called internet addresses. And also
occurring in internet e-mail addresses and e-mail addresses, unfortunately
can not be called. Everytime I get the error message that the correct
application is not found.
I am really baffled. That is really annoying. Because I've not before, only
because of this problem, Vista completely, and thus the associated time
working from the front to begin.
It would be very very helpful and I hope that maybe somebody has a useful
hint to these problems?

Many thanks for your helps.

3. If this does not work use a wild card search the search on the start
menu.
Type *.doc as your search string and all the word Documents on your computer
should be found. Type *.dot for the template files.

Best of luck

Subject: [Blind-Computing] problems with Microsoft word

Hey all,
Yesterday when I tried to create a new document I got the message that the
template was not available or that the program could not use the template
that was selected. The problem gets worse. When I tried to open any of my
document files from my document folder it told me that they could not be
found because the address was wrong. I even tried to get to one of them
through a short on my desk top with the same results. I have several
reports due Tuesday and really need some help. Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Line-In Mutes Speakers

2007-10-14 Thread DoubleLegal
That's exactly what I used to do with my old computer, but it's not working
on the new one. My old computer came from Vocational Rehab, as has this new
one. So, the new one was not configured like the old one was to where I
could just plug in and record.

I use GoldWave, and have set it up to record the line input, but still no
luck.

I tried plugging the speakers into the line in in and mic inputs on the back
of the computer just to see if maybe I was plugging the speakers into the
wrong port. Later I had a sighted person make sure I was in the right jack.
Anyway, when I did this, I could hear my computer sounds thru the speakers.
Strange. I just don't understand what the problem might be.

I'm not sure but let's try and take things one at a time. Now when I do
 such
a thing the deck gets hooked into the line in port first of all. Next I
 set
gold wave mostly or what ever recorder I'm planning on using at that point
to the correct setting. In this case line in. That normally works for me
 without fail.

I think you are talking about the Mute check boxes. They are not
 checked.
I think that JAWS is just not reading things to me that I need to see.

I have line in checked for the recording input, and the line in mute
box unchecked in the volume/playback section. Still, my speakers are muted
when I plug in the line fro the cassette into the line in jack in the
 back.

Are there any other setting that I might be missing in windows somewhere?

 Thanks.

 Hello list,

I'm brand new to the list and have a question.

I am trying to hook up a cassette deck to my computer to record my tapes
to MP3's. When I plug either the deck into the line in
or the mic into it's input,
my speakers mute. I have also tried just plugging my headphones into the
front of the PC, but can't hear anything at all when I
start a tape. I did go
in and set the line in as the source in, but just can't get it all to
work. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Are there some
 settings in the computer
 that I'm missing?

 Thanks.
