Jaws 10 is full of bugs; maybe this is one. There are some bugs in Outlook,
the most annoying being the forms mode turning on and off on it's own.

The subject line still repeats twice in JAWS10.

[Blind-Computing] Jaws Not Reading Outlook Messages

2008-11-21 Thread Pedro Romero
Hello all. I am new to this list and am writing in the hopes I can get some
much-needed assistance.

My friend, who uses Jaws and Windows XP, is not able to read her e-mail using
Outlook. When she goes to the inbox Jaws only says Subject, received size.

It also reads graphic numbers and reads the word button several times.

One more thing. She also has Google Desktop installed on her machine and when
she tried to go to the control panel to remove it, Jaws would say Treeview
Listview but when she tried to use the up/down and left/right arrow keys, Jaws
said nothing.

Any suggestions as to how we can remedy these problems would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

[Blind-Computing] transfering windows mail back to outlook express.

2008-11-21 Thread Reese
Hi list:

The subject says it all. Had a problem on the XP system so used windows
easy transfer to copy outlook express email to vista's windows mail.
Now we wish to transfer windows mail back to outlook express on the original

However, windows easy transfer on the XP system doesn't have support for

So is there anyway to transfer these files back to XP or is it one of those

[Blind-Computing] Screen Readers and Antivirus Software

2008-11-21 Thread David Goldfield
Hello.

I am an assistive technology trainer who is working with a student who
is using Window-eyes 6.1 with Windows Vista. We are wondering what
antivirus programs are the most usable/accessible with Window-eyes? I
personally like Avast and I gather that many blind people seem to like
it, although I am annoyed at their captcha which is necessary for
registration. I will say, however, that Avast is very good at
responding to users very quickly and will provide a license key via
email. I saw a version of PC-Cillin from a few years back and it
appeared to be very usable, but my student installed a version of it
(not sure which one) and is finding it awkward to use. I have mixed
feelings about AVG 8.0 as to its accessibility compared with 7.5, but
it's more or less workable. How are Norton and Mcafee these days? I
would welcome any comments.

David

Re: [Blind-Computing] Run Dialogue Box

2008-11-21 Thread Sherrie Gosling

Hi Patricia,
I don't think you need to worry about that staying in the run
command. When you open it again and start typing in something else
it will go away. Actually it is handy that it does remember it since
sometimes you need to use the same command over again. For instance,
my Remove hardware safely icon has disappeared from the System Tray
so I found a way to open it with the run dialog box but it is a
really long string to type so I am glad it stays there. In fact when
you open the run dialog box you can arrow down and see the last
several things you typed in.

Oh btw...my ether net cable had mysteriously came unplugged behind

But hey it was a learning experience, I had to use the jaws right

Good 'ol jaws just came through like a trooper.

I was blessed to have a teck person who was very nice and patient

But if anyone can tell me how to remove that cmd from the run

The only way that I've read about and works is to create folder on a memory
stick and to use the drag and drop method from windows mail to this folder,
and from the stick to OE. I assume you have to create folders that match
those in windows mail and copy the contents to the corresponding folder. I'm
not sure if you can copy the folders themselves.

[Blind-Computing] Problem Fixed Re: Open Book Unable to DetermineAppropriateScanner

2008-11-21 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

It looks like I'm back in business. I couldn't remember if I had rebooted
since the Cox tech came and figured it wouldn't hurt to do it again. The
reboot seems to have done the trick and Open Book seems to be playing nicely
with the scanner again.

Should I hit enter on add device?

Thanks.

Then try to scan again. Sometimes I have to do this to select my scanner

should be there listed just highlight it.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Open Book Unable to Determine Appropriate Scanner

 Hi All,

A Cox technician was here the other day to switch my telephone service
 from
another carrier to Cox and I've been getting an error message with Open
 Book
7.02 since he left: Open Book is unable to determine the appropriate
 scanner
to use. After you hit enter to close this message, use the up and down
arrows to select the scanner. I'm only finding no scanner in the list.
The technician switched my cable modem to a dual modem and I suspect he
unplugged my scanner which I know is a Canon, but I don't have the model
number handy and sighted assistance is usually not available. I'm just
recovering from a migraine and would greatly appreciate any help list
members could give so I can use the scanner again.

It's Open Book 7.02, a Canon scanner, JAWS 7 to 10, on an XP Home with
 Service Pack 3 machine.

 Thanks,

Re: [Blind-Computing] Jaws Not Reading Outlook Messages

2008-11-21 Thread David Griffith
Re Outlook
This relates to Outlook 2003. I hated Outlook 2007 and un -installed it to
get back to 2003.

I have discovered that Jaws does not like the Task Pane or Task View in
Outlook. I had a similar problem to that you describe in Outlook on my
laptop though oddly this problem did not exist on my desktop.

To resolve this on my laptop I set up Outlook not to start in Outlook Today
and instead forced Outlook to start immediately in the Inbox . I also turned
Reading Pane and navigation panes off in the view menu. Finally I use a
utility called autosizer which automatically maximises the Outlook window
and I never have any problems. I use the Outlook shortcut keys, that is
control 1, control 2 etc to navigate to different parts of the program. I
use control plus Y to navigate between folders . This set up seems very Jaws
friendly and stable.

To force Outlook to start in the Inbox go to Tools then Options and then the
Other tab - then press the Advanced button and you should be able to
nominate the Inbox as the place for Outlook to start in.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Jaws Not Reading Outlook Messages

Hello all. I am new to this list and am writing in the hopes I can get some
much-needed assistance.

My friend, who uses Jaws and Windows XP, is not able to read her e-mail
using Outlook. When she goes to the inbox Jaws only says Subject, received
size.

It also reads graphic numbers and reads the word button several times.

One more thing. She also has Google Desktop installed on her machine and
when she tried to go to the control panel to remove it, Jaws would say
Treeview Listview but when she tried to use the up/down and left/right
arrow keys, Jaws said nothing.

Any suggestions as to how we can remedy these problems would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is my only scanner. The only thing that's listed is add device
and

a message

Opens a Wizard to help you install a new imaging device.

Should I hit enter on add device?

Thanks.

Patricia Dunbar wrote:

there

is no ok button so just alt f4 out of this..

Then try to scan again. Sometimes I have to do this to select my scanner
too. just unplugging will not remove your scanner off your computer, so it
should be there listed just highlight it.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Open Book Unable to Determine Appropriate
Scanner

Thanks,

Margaret

Hi Patricia,
I don't think you need to worry about that staying in the run
command. When you open it again and start typing in something else
it will go away. Actually it is handy that it does remember it since
sometimes you need to use the same command over again. For instance,
my Remove hardware safely icon has disappeared from the System Tray
so I found a way to open it with the run dialog box but it is a
really long string to type so I am glad it stays there. In fact when
you open the run dialog box you can arrow down and see the last
several things you typed in.

Now when I want to do run command, that is still there that, cmd. So
wonder how to get it so nothing shows in the edit area??

Oh btw...my ether net cable had mysteriously came unplugged behind
the computer of course..

But hey it was a learning experience, I had to use the jaws right
mouse click to get to the local area network window and then had to
do it again to enable it.

Good 'ol jaws just came through like a trooper.

I was blessed to have a teck person who was very nice and patient
with me doing it the keyboard route..

But if anyone can tell me how to remove that cmd from the run
command I tried to backspace it, select it but no go, hmmm.

Thanks,

David

[Blind-Computing] Outlook Express New Message Notification

2008-11-21 Thread Pedro Romero
Hi all. My friend doesn't hear a sound to notify her of new e-mail message
when using Outlook Express. She has gone to tools and options and checked the
box that says
play sound when new messages arrive. Is there another setting which which I'm
perhaps not familiar that would allow her to hear the mail notification.

Thanks in advance.
