Re: [Blind-Computing] windows reformating.

2008-12-11 Thread Chris Hallsworth
I'm trying to do something similar for Vista installs. This requires a
completely different script file, which is in XML format. It's achievable
but more harder. The only thing I can't work out now is to not have a
password on the user account that gets installed. It would seem the tool I
use won't accept empty values for password-related fields, and, if I try and
leave the password field altogether, I'm told that before I can log in I
will need to change my password. Autologon works, but only for the number of
times specified in the LogonCount property. I'm sorry for the technical
babble, but hope you understand my goals.

It can be done but needs quite a bit of setting up. I think if you search
on

Blind Cool Tech there is a Podcast there about setting up a script based
method for an unattended Windows install including formatting. You set
everything up and hopefully at the other end you get windows reinstalled.
You will then have to use windows R and type narrator into the new windows
installation to hook into a screen reader install. You may be able to
automate the screen reader install using something called silent mode but
I

do not really know about this.

2008-12-11 Thread Chris Hallsworth
First of all, a computer must support booting from USB devices. This is a
BIOS setting and not all BIOSes support it. Second, I would prefer, where
possible of course, that VMware (or any other desktop virtualization
products for that matter) should be used if you wish to test out an
operating system. Just my £0.02 worth. You're better off booting from a CD
and do it that way.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Question about virus removal

Hello list.
I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how to create some sort
of bootable cd using linux or something else that I could use for virus
removal. I was thinking that you could use something like grml to boot and
then scan your ntfs partitions but would like to be able to put something
like this on a usb stick. I know it can be done using linux itself, but
was looking for a way to create this bootable grml flashstick on windows
so as to not have to screw around with running grml or what ever in vmware
to create it. Please forgive me if this is not exactly on topic but
figured I would give it a shot as it sort of has to do with using jaws to
get it done. Any help on or off list would be greatfully appreciated. If
any other accessible means of doing diagnostic things like this I would
also be interested to here what people have to say about them.

If you want an absolutely clean installation of Windows, it's best to go the

[Blind-Computing] problems with how emails are being sorted in outlook express

2008-12-11 Thread jason smith
Hi list,
I recently tried out having my emails being grouped by conversation. However, I
later decided to change back to how I had it originally. However, I am finding
that my emails are no longer in the order I originally had them. For example,
the dates seem to be all over the place. When I get new emails, I have to use
the control U command to find them within the folder I am in whether that is my
in box or whatever. I have my messages arranged by the newest being at the
bottom(which is what I want). But like I said, they seem to be mixed up with
regards to dates.
Any ideas what is happening?

You can create and save templates in the ffree version of Jarte. For
instance, you can create envelope templates, or business letter templates,
as I have done.

Jart has a spell checker. Although I still use Word Jart is my program of
choice for reading documents as it is very stable with Jaws even for very
long book sized documents. I have never had a crash or a delay in
reading.

The main restriction I can see between the free version of Jart and the
version you buy is that you cannot set up templates in the free version.
So

for example you cannot in the free version change the default font to say
Arial 14 point. However it will respect and maintain the format for any
document you open or save. You can of course change fonts and other styles
manually. So in summary the free Jart when it opens a blank document will
always have Verdona 13 point as the default font. A lot of people
consider
this to be a good accessible font for people with low vision to read
anyway.

If you really want templates in the free version you can save empty
documents with the fonts and other styles you want set up in Jart, then
simply make these read only. So, for example, if you want a Arial 14
point

template simply open Jart, change the font to Arial 14 and save this
document as arial14.rtf in perhaps a folder called Jart Templates. Close
Jart and find this file in Windows Explorer . Press alt plus enter to
open file properties. Tab until you hear read only and press space bar to
check this. Press OK. Then Make sure that Jart is associated with rtf
files. If you do not know how to do this then repost this as a question
and

instructions can be given.

Now opening arial14.rtf in Explorer will open this as a template within
Jart. The fact that the file is read only will prevent you overwriting
this

file by mistake. Jart will prompt you to select a different file name when
you try to save your work.

David Griffith

[Blind-Computing] The latest Version of Word Perfect for Windows

2008-12-11 Thread Francis E. Khan
Hello Listers:

Does anybody on this list use Word Perfect? I grew up with the DOS version in
the '80's and used it until the year 2001. However, I am thinking of buying
the latest version to install on my computer even though I have the 2003 Office
suite of programs.

If anyone uses Word Perfect now, please let me know how well it works using
JAWS 10 so that I know what to expect and try work around techniques.

Thanks for any information or advice.

Here's the web site where you can download the free version of Jarte:

Hi, David. Is the free version of jarte on the jaws users website? I
tried to find it the other day but maybe you need to read all the way down
the page to find it. Thanks very much for your help.

Jart has a spell checker. Although I still use Word Jart is my program
of

choice for reading documents as it is very stable with Jaws even for very
long book sized documents. I have never had a crash or a delay in
reading.

The main restriction I can see between the free version of Jart and the
version you buy is that you cannot set up templates in the free version.
So

for example you cannot in the free version change the default font to say
Arial 14 point. However it will respect and maintain the format for
any
document you open or save. You can of course change fonts and other
styles
manually. So in summary the free Jart when it opens a blank document
will
always have Verdona 13 point as the default font.

Jart will prompt you to select a different file name
when

you try to save your work.

David Griffith

Hi Alan and Hugh,

I did not receive any reply from the blind Computing list, but I did
get a reply from another blind list. See below though the reply that
I received may not help much. Still confused, but I will have to try
it again. Here is the response that I received.

No, I've used in the past. It's easiest to tab through the setting
and check boxes you want to repair/optimize. Once at the end, there
is a button that

says repair. You can manipulate the program using the jaws cursor as well.

I once tried the professional version and noticed nothing different.

It also has a memory cleaner that sits in your system tray, which
allows for simple or deep cleaning.

Hi Everyone,

Is there anyone on this list that uses Advanced SystemCare? I installed the
free version and ran the scan, but I am under the impression that the free
version will not optimize or clean up my PC unless I upgrade to the
professional version. Is this true?

If not, is there any way to use this software free version and remove
spywares and optimize my PC? Also, I find that I have to use the Jaws cursor
to successfully use this software. Does anyone find this to be true?

I am currently using Super Antispiware and Ad-aware. I look for any

Re: [Blind-Computing] firebird

Let's clear up some confusion. Firebird was the original name for the
Mozilla Foundation's web browser. But because of legal issues, it was
changed to Firefox in 2004. thunderbird is the name of Mozilla's email
client. So there is currently no such thing as Mozilla Firebird. If you
are interested in the Mozilla web browser, you should download Firefox
3.0.4, the latest version which works with JAWS 8 and higher. You can
download it at:

Let's clear up some confusion. Firebird was the original name for the
Mozilla Foundation's web browser. But because of legal issues, it was
changed to Firefox in 2004. thunderbird is the name of Mozilla's email
client. So there is currently no such thing as Mozilla Firebird. If you
are interested in the Mozilla web browser, you should download Firefox
3.0.4, the latest version which works with JAWS 8 and higher. You can
download it at:

[Blind-Computing] accessibleRSS options for firefox

2008-12-11 Thread aiden gardiner
Hi all,

I'm thinking of switching completely over to firefox for all internet serfing

figure out how the live bookmarks work as it compares to RSS feeds in IE. Could
someone please explain how the reading of RSS feeds can be done with a screen

2008-12-11 Thread Negoslav Sabev
Personallly I'm not impressed of going through menues searching for unread
or new bookmarks in firefox. I don't think jaws makes difference between
readn and unread news there. I use third party reader. Maybe I didn't find
the right way to read rss in firefox, but if someone has good ideas, pleas
share them with us.
