[Blind-Computing] jaws dongle problem progress

2009-01-24 Thread Negoslav Sabev

Hello,

I think I found the solution for my problem.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935066
It worked on my problematic virtual machine, and hope it will do on the real
ones also. But will know this for sure on Monday.
Hope this info will help someone else, and thanks to all of you who tried to
help.

I use xp sp2. Tried with IE6 and it crashed. Tried also with latest firefox
with no problem. It seems to me the site has compatibility problems with the
older browsers. It starts with a media (audio or video I don't know), Maybe
you have problems with flash player?
My suggestion is not to restart, but press windowsinsert+f4 to unload jaws
and then restart it again with the hotkey you use. . You can use also
alternative screenreader like NVDA to kill the hanging processes in case
like this.

Re: [Blind-Computing] www.abc.com

2009-01-24 Thread JOHN JUSTICE

Debbie,
That site is loaded with flash movies. Every time you click on one of the
links, you end up with a flash showing some part of what is being titled.
The same is true of the web site www.xmradio.com/full channel line up
It isn't really crashing but there is so much interference with different
flashes that your screen reader doesn't know what to do. If you get hit
like that again, try Alt tabbing out of that focus. Take your time and in
most cases, Jaws will recover.
In spite of assurances to the contrary, Jaws, even Version 10, isn't
comfortable with flash movies.

At least, that's been my experience.

[Blind-Computing] NVDA, amazing!,

2009-01-24 Thread JOHN JUSTICE
Hi group. Some of our International members have recommended NVDA as a
possible alternative to Jaws when viewing certain web sites. It's built with
Open Source code and is much more flexible in some cases. It can't touch Jaws
for normal use but I'm already impressed by what it can do.
I'm going to go to one of the most impossible sites I know which is
www.xmradio.com and see what it does.
If anyone has any suggestions about using this free screen reader, I'd
appreciate some help either on or off of the list.
Thanks to those who recommended it as a possible alternative when Jaws gets
picky. LOL!

Re: [Blind-Computing] NVDA, amazing!,

2009-01-24 Thread JOHN JUSTICE

Hello there.
If you have Jaws 10 on your system, you already have some voices and the
ability to download others.
Jaws 9 also had some built in SAPI 5 voices. I don't know yet how to
change voices with NVDA since I just got it but I'm sure that it can be
done. That English one just has to go! It's terrible.

touch Jaws for normal use but I'm already impressed by what it can do.
I'm going to go to one of the most impossible sites I know which is
www.xmradio.com and see what it does.
If anyone has any suggestions about using this free screen reader, I'd
appreciate some help either on or off of the list.
Thanks to those who recommended it as a possible alternative when Jaws
gets

picky. LOL!

[Blind-Computing] XM RADIO WEB SITE CHANGES

2009-01-24 Thread JOHN JUSTICE
Lino,
For some reason, XM Radio's site now jams Jaws up and makes it almost
impossible to navigate there. It's filled with these view links and if you
accidentally click on one of them, it's all over.

Yes my friend. It has change and in my opinion, not for the better. Worse
than that, I did manage to download the .PDF version of their line up only to
find that for some odd reason, the thing put the numbers for the channels in
one place and their content somewhere else. Very frustrating!
ER'R'R'R'R'R'R'R'R!

I have requested a printed version which I hope to be able to scan.

I used the web site http://www.xmradio.com as a test and ran both screen
readers.
I tried to use NVDA first. On that web site you will need to choose Full
Channel Line Up to experience the same situation.

With Jaws and NVDA , the speech quit almost immediately. As I mentioned in
an earlier message, I believe that the problem exists in the fact that there
are Flash links all over this page. Jaws and NVDA both got jammed up by
these links and quit entirely. There was literally no way to get them back
and I tried everything.

Next, I took System Access To Go for a spin and what do you know, it worked!
For some reason, I'm still not sure why, SA read the links but did not get
hung up.
On our list is a member called Debbie. She mentioned a web site provided by
ABC, http://www.abc.com and I think that this site has the same problems as
the newly designed XM Radio page does.

CONCLUSION: For some limited purposes, System Access, although it's a very
limited tool, will work where Jaws and NVDA do not.

I thought some of the people here might find this interesting.

[Blind-Computing] Changing serial ports in Jaws 10.0

2009-01-24 Thread Don Risavy, Jr.
Wondered is there a way to change a serial port in Jaws manually without
having to run the Jaws installation all over again?

I have a Doubletalk LT serial synthesizer that need to change the serial
port from com 4 to com 2 that had originally set up for com 4 upon
installations of Jaws 10.

Thanks

Hi
I have to download the file from the link each time I want to use it. On
my laptop if I use alt F4 to unload the program, I have to reboot the computer
before reloading it. I believe there is a correct way to unload the s a to go
program where one can reload it with out restarting one's computer but I
haven't read much in the manual either. I have only been using the program for
two or three days.
I am glad it is a help.

Hi, Mark. You unload satogo with the sane keystrokes you use to unload
Jaws.

Hi
I have to download the file from the link each time I want to use it.
On my laptop if I use alt F4 to unload the program, I have to reboot the
computer before reloading it. I believe there is a correct way to unload the
s a to go program where one can reload it with out restarting one's computer
but I haven't read much in the manual either. I have only been using the
program for two or three days.

I am glad it is a help.

God bless,
Mark
