[Blind-Computing] Office 2007 Update

2009-04-03 Thread Rogelio Terrazas
For those that have been thinking about upgrading to Office 2007. I have
been playing with Word and Excel 2007 for a few days and I can honestly tell
you it is not a bad idea if you can upgrade. All of the core functions which
are the key strokes are the same. The only thing you got to get used to is the
new interface. It has many new features that are easy to use in combination
with the key strokes.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Password Protect

2009-04-03 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Rogelio,
While in Outlook Express, do the following:
1. go to the file menu, and select identities, press enter
2. from the resulting sub-menu, select manage identities, and press enter.
3. in the resulting dialogue, select the identity you want to password
protect, with the arrow keys.
4. once you have it selected, tab to the properties button, and spacebar
that.
5. in the resulting dialogue, the first bvox is the name of the identity, so
tab once to the require a password checkbox, and spacebar to check it.
6. once you have checked the box, you will immediately be placed in the
password field, so enter your password, and tab once , and enter it again.
now just follow the prompts, and okay your way out of the dialogues.
You are done.

Well, good luck.

Like I said, that other method of accessing system tray items is sometimes
more useful than the standard jaws listing dialogue, but, hope this thing
has gone away.

Hi. I have JAWS 7.0, so I'm afraid I won't be able to catch that balloon
when it pops up. I suppose that if I knew how to submit manually, then
the

balloon would go away. I hadn't heard the balloon pop up at all this
morning which is a good sign.

I may have lucked out. I was looking around in Nod32 under quarantine,
right clicked on a file there, and fortunately a choice to submit for
analysis was there. Then what came up was edit fields for comments and my
email address, but there was no ok button, just a cancel button. However,
somehow I suppose I may have got it to go through. *crossing fingers*

Are you using jaws, and if so, what version?

I think from either jaws 8 or 9 onwards, when a tooltip popped up, by
default, hitting your left mouse click key shortly afterwards, it would by
default click on it for you.

Also have nod32 currently testing/running, and the only other thing I can
think of is to try navigating directly to the system notification tray
using

windows key + B, get your jaws cursor to follow your pc cursor, and right
and left arrow until it has focus, then try right clicking and see if the
context menu has any value as such.

Hi. I have Nod32 version 2.70.32. Nod32 keeps popping up with a balloon
that says that I haven't submitted a file for analysis and to click on it
to
do so. I'm not able to click on this balloon nor does it show up in my
system tray. Apparently, Nod32 quarantined something and wants me to do
something with it. I'd like to either do what it says or get it to stop
prompting me because it was popping up every few minutes or so. Pop,
pop,

pop! Fortunately, at present it has stopped, thank goodness. I'm not
sure
why.

I've never really looked into how to navigate Nod32 and it appears that
it's
about time I start. Until now, I really hadn't felt any need to do more
than let it run and doo its job. Thanks for any Nod32 advice, on this
issue
or in general.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Disk Restore Questions

2009-04-03 Thread Jacob Kruger
To be honest, I prefer to actually reload my machines every now and then in
any case to clear up clutter/software that doesn't get used.

I have an external 250Gb hard drive that connects via USB, so I just make
sure I back up all important data (which normally stays on it in any case)
there, unauthorise jaws first, and then do a clean install including a
complete format (not the quick one), and reload the machine with a sighted
friend helping me with the initial part of the process up until I have the
sound card and video card drivers loaded, and then I do the rest myself.

Only other thing I try to do is make a system restore point just after the
clean installation of important software, but I normally don't bother
restoring back to this point since I still think it's better to just do a
clean install every now and then.

This is partly due to testing/playing around with a lot of different types
of software, but I also have one machine that just stays clean and only has
actual work software on it, and this one doesn't need to get reloaded too
often.

Stay well

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Disk Restore Questions

I have room for only one hard disk in my PC and I want to upgrade to a
larger drive.

I have my original disk drive backed up with Acronis True-Image (which I
believe makes a image of my hard disk).

Two questions:

1.When I put in the new hard disk, must I reformat it first before
restoring the image with True-Image? I believe I can boot off a bootable
CD

made from True-Image and then pull the restore files off my USB drive.

2. As for Jaws - Do I need to remove the authorization from my
original drive and then re-authorize on the new drive or can I just
restore

the disk image to the new drive and not worry about Jaws?

Also, if I do have to format the new drive should I use FAT32 or NTFS?

Thanks.

For OE, go to the file menu/identities/manage identities and look through

For skype, just log out, and you will need your password to log in. It's
important to remember your pass. If you set skype to log you in automaticly,

Re: [Blind-Computing] question on why webbIE lights off on virus scanner

2009-04-03 Thread Alasdair King
WebbIE has an automatic update mechanism. This is fired by any of the
WebbIE programs. It checks the website for any updates, a maximum of
once a week. This is what triggers firewalls, certainly, and might be
what you're experiencing.

Most of the Accessible and WebbIE programs query the web - the WebbIE
site or something else - when first run, so they may look like dodgy
programs to heuristic scanning techniques.

Best wishes,

Re: [Blind-Computing] Regarding Note pad!

2009-04-03 Thread Rick Justice
Hi John,
Yes,the My Documents folder is the default for Notepad,
but the first time you save a file, just look to make sure where itt is
going.
Like the rest of the Windows defaults, wherever you save it, is where it
will be saved thereafter, until you change it.

I have note pad on my desktop.
I'm use to word, if I make up a file then it's in my documents.
If I'm going to start to use note pad do I do it the same way?
will it show up in my documents or where?
Thanks in advance.

[Blind-Computing] Jaws 10.0 startup problems

2009-04-03 Thread Don Risavy, Jr.
Hello,

Wondered if anyone has ever run into or have run into problems with the Jaws
10.0.1142 startup when first boot up the computer or log on to windows xp
pro?

What seems to be happening with me is that once run the Jaws startup wizard
and set all the settings per my use and or liking then when either log off
my windows xp pro Jaws will default back to the default settings and the
speech is very slow at the default setting that it is at when first install
Jaws as was when first installed. Then the startup wizard begins all over
again.  If don't have to log off or restart the computer things are fine;
but, once do have to restart or log off the computer then loose all the
settings previously set during the startup wizard and have to begin again.

If I only install and use the Jaws 10.0installation cd that shipped when
Jaws came out things work just fine; but, when upgrade to Jaws 10.0.1142
that's when things seem to go nuts.

So just thought would throw this out to see if anyone had any suggestions or
had run into the problem too.

I've even completely uninstall Jaws and started all over again with the sma
Jaws 10.0 cd that was shipped and again things work fine as long as don't
install the upgrade.

Thanks.
