Re: [Blind-Computing] Turnning off double spacing in MS Word 2007

2009-06-09 Thread David Griffith
Well I am not sure about the horrible 2007 version of Word as I
un-installed it and went back to 2003.
In 2003 the following works.
Select the area where you want to change line spacing.
Alt plus o to open the format Menu
Then P for Paragraph.
You are now in a multi-tab dialogue box.
Press control tab until you hear indents and spacing.
Pressing tab through this dialogue box will eventually bring you to a combo
box where you can select the line spacing you want.

If this does not work in 2007 then I guess trying the application key after
selecting the area you want to change may give the best results. Look for
the format options.

In Word 2007, the options should be in the home tab, under the formatting
group. Yes right clicking the area will also work. I don't find it horrible
myself but won't ask why here.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Turnning off double spacing in MS Word 2007

2009-06-09 Thread Gerald Levy

Well, I guess you discovered another one of Word 2007's many annoying
quirks. But to set it for single spacing, try these steps:

Using the ribbon, choose the home tab with alt-h.
Then tab a thousand times until you get to change styles (not styles) but
change styles.

Press enter and then choose style set with the arrow keys and press enter.
Then arrow down to word 2003 and press enter. This takes out the double
spacing when you press enter. It also changes the line spacing from 1.15
toregular single spacing.

To Now make this change perminent, Go threw the first steps again and when
you get to change styles, again press enter. This time arrow down to set
as default and press enter.

I hope this helps.

All I would do in that type of case, is do something like select a space
character - simple as typing one space, hold in shift, and move cursor one
left, hit Ctrl + C, and there you go - new clipboard contents are almost
nothing.

These Windows commands do not work in Word 2007. The only way to get single
spacing is to either change the style set to Word 2003 or change the line
spacing options in the Paragraph dialog (Alt-P, PG). To verify the line
spacing in the document, you should read it one line at a time using the
down arrow. If you hear blank between lines, you know you have double
spacing. If you don't hear blank between lines, you know you have single
spacing. You cannot determine line spacing when reading in JAWS say all
mode, because blank lines are not announced.

[Blind-Computing] JAWS saying 40 minute mode

2009-06-09 Thread DoubleLegal
Hi everyone,

I just got on the computer for the day and when I started up JAWS, it says I am
in 40 minute mode. I have both JAWS 8 and 10 on here. I switch back and forth
between them depending on what I'm doing on the computer.

Why would this start doing this all of a sudden? I have fully paid versions on

Thanks for any help.

Re: [Blind-Computing] viewing clipboard

2009-06-09 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Marilyn,
If you copy something to the Windows clipboard, it remains there untilat
least one of two things happens.
1. you copy something else to the clipboard, which over-writes what was
already there.
2. You re-boot the computer, in which case the clipboard is emptied when the
memory is dumped.
The clipboard is not application specific, meaning,
if for example you copy text from a Notepad file, and then close Notepad,
the text remains on the clipboard and could be pasted into Microsoft Word
document, or some other text editor.
If you have copied a full page of text to the clipboard,
all you would have to do is copy a space to the clipboard, and all of the
text would be gone, leaving only the space.

[Blind-Computing] Textbridge OnmiPage questions

2009-06-09 Thread Lennie Rinaldi

Hello Everyone,

I am hoping that someone on this list can help me?

I currently have TextBridge Pro Millennium, OmniPage Pro 9, OmniPage
Pro 12 and OmniPage 15 on my XP Home edition computer using the latest Jaws 10.

When I first started using a scan software, it was TextBridge Pro
Millennium which was very difficult for a blind person to use with
Jaws. However, it got better with OmniPage Pro 9 and even better with
OmniPage Pro 12.

When I upgraded to OmniPage Pro 12, I uninstalled TextBridge Pro
Millennium and when I went to use OmniPage Pro 12, it would no longer
function. Somehow, TextBridge Pro Millennium must have removed
something that caused OmniPage Pro 12 not to work anymore.

So, I reinstalled TextBridge Pro Millennium from my original CD and
OmniPage Pro 12 worked perfectly. Since then I have upgraded to
OmniPage 15 which I use exclusively now.

My questions are these.

Is there some way to uninstall TextBridge Pro Millennium , OmniPage
Pro 9 and OmniPage Pro 12 without affecting the performance of OmniPage 15?

Is there some shared files that is being used by each of the scan
software that would be removed thus affecting OmniPage 15?

I appreciate any advice that anyone can provide me. Unfortunately, I
cannot get any technical support from Nuance on old versions of their
software. There is no information pertaining to my problem that I can
find on their knowledge base. Thanks.

Lennie

2009-06-09 Thread Gerald Levy

I stand corrected. Apparently, these commands work in Word 2007 after all.
What confused me was that when I press Control-2 to select double spacing in
a single-spaced document, JAWS doesn't announce the blank lines when
reading it line by line with the down arrow, so it sounds like the document
is still single spaced. But when the document is printed out, it clearly
comes out double spaced.

Well, my results do not corroborate the statement below, using Word 2007.
For one thing, when I use the ctrl+1 and Ctrl+2 keystrokes, JAWS ins+f
immediately reports a change in the line spacing of the current paragraph.
Second, in the Word Custom Keyboard dialog, the keystrokes for Space Para1
and Space Para2 are, as they have always been, set for ctrl+1 and ctrl+2.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Turnning off double spacing in MS Word 2007

2009-06-09 Thread David Griffith
Sorry Gerald but this is not correct.

Jaws will not announce blank between lines in double spacing for the simple
reason that there are no blank lines. Remember double spacing does not
mean blank lines it means simply that the spacing for a single line is
greater.

So pressing the down arrow on single spacing and double spacing will achieve
identical results in terms of reading the double spaced or single spaced
lines of text.

I have just tried this out to make sure that I was correct.
You can however tell if spacing is single or double spacing simply by
pressing Insert F in Jaws which will deliver the format information for any
line.

Re: [Blind-Computing] viewing clipboard

2009-06-09 Thread David Griffith
Dear Marilyn

You do need to hold down all 3 keys together simultaneously.
I put the little finger of my right hand on the insert key .
Then the pointing finger of my right hand on the right window key . If your
finger does not reach the right window key you need to use your right thumb.
I then use my left hand to press down the x.

If you do not have a right window key then you will need to use 2 little
fingers on the insert and left window key with your left pointing finger
reaching out to press the X.

What version of jaws do you have?

Not sure when it was implemented, but I am using a recent version of jaws
10.

I tried it but it doesn't work for me. So who's surprised? Do I need i e
running? Do all three keys have to be held down simultaneously? I need
 an
extra hand if they do, so I must be missing something. Marilyn

Cliff,

In which version of Windows does this function work for you? It doesn't
work in Win2K.

I learned this application a short time ago and I love it!

If you wish to add several items to the clipboard, to be added toyour
document in the order given, make your second and other clipboart entries
with the keystroke

Windows Key+C.

As the old commercial used to put it, Try it, you'll like it!

Re: [Blind-Computing] viewing clipboard

2009-06-09 Thread Jacob Kruger
And if you turn on keyboard help using jaws key + number row 1, and then try
hitting the combo of jaws key, with the right hand, along with the windows
key on that side, and then the x key with the left hand, does it say
something like:
windows key + jaws key + X speaks the contents of the clipboard?

I know it's not the easiest key combo to use, and I do the jaws key with my
right little finger, the windows key on that side with my right thumb, and
then the X key with my left ring finger.

Stay well

What program you use, depends on what you are wanting to accomplish.
Give us some more details, such as whether you are wanting to backup the
