Re: [Blind-Computing] hello and need help getting rid of a trojan
The reason a Trojan cannot be deleted is probably that it is being loaded at startup . You could try putting this Trojan name into a Google Search to get definite instructions on removal but I can suggest the following. Try . There are normally 2 ways of coping with Trojans . 1. Run Nod 32 in windows safe Mode. Safe Mode is a special kind of windows that can be loaded where startup drivers, including hopefully your Trojan are not loaded. I am not sure how this is done in vista but in XP I think I recall you enter Safe Mode by pressing F8 repeatedly as the computer boots up. Your problem however, is that Jaws will not work in safe Mode as the internal sound driver will not be loaded and there are other special drivers Jaws relies upon. I saw a post recently on an NVDA list saying that you could however run the free NVDA Screen reader in Safe Mode. To do this you need a portable version of NVDA and an external USB headset or external USB Soundcard. Apparently these USB sound cards or headsets will load in Safe Mode. I have not tested this out. It may be easier for you to just get sighted help to run NOD32 in Safe Mode however. 2. The other method I suggest is that you try installing super antispyware. This has a claim that it is able to remove Trojans . What is will do, if it finds the Trojan, is inform you that your system needs to be restarted. Super Antispyware will then try to remove the Trojan as windows starts up before it gets a chance to load. Of the 2 methods I would try to use Nod 32 in Safe Mode first as it has already shown it can detect this Trojan. This gives a high chance that it should be able to definitely find it . Once you are 100% sure that your system is clean I would suggest. 1. Make sure you have a good firewall if you do not have one set up. Personally I would be using ESET Smart Security rather than the stand alone NOD32 anti virus that you have. 2. use a disk image utility to back up your windows installation so you have a simple method of returning to a clean version of windows in future. [Blind-Computing] Wow! $10 MP3 Player Really Is Accessible
I just received my Coby MP200 MP3 player from JR, and it is truly simple and totally blind accessible. On top of the unit is the earphone jack into which you plug the included earbuds. The front panel has 5 discrete buttons arranged in a vertical column. From top to bottom, the buttons are skip forward, play/pause/power, skip backward, volume up and volume down. Pressing and holding the second button from the top for 5 seconds turns the unit on, and pressing and holding it again for 5 seconds turns it off. That's all there is to it. The bottom of the unit has a USB connector that plugs directly into a USB port, although a separate USB cable is also included. You just plug it into your PC and copy and paste the MP3 files you want to download. Just install the included AAA battery and you're good to go. The sound quality is surprisingly good, at least using a better pair of earbuds than the included ones. There is absolutely no learning curve, and no sighted assistance is required to use it. The included software, which I have not tried yet, is fully JAWS accessible. With 2gb of memory, it can hold up to 1,000 songs. This is probably the best blind accessible MP3 deal ever. It is still available from JR for $10 with free shipping, but they probably won't last much longer at that price. They make wonderful stocking stuffers. The hardest part of using this gizmo is getting it out of the plastic blister pack which requires a heavy duty scissors to cut open. http://www.jr.com/coby/pe/CBY_MP2002G/ Gerald For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

The programs that you can install to turn them off will only stay off until you press a key again, then the screen comes back on. On mine I just have the screen light turned to the lowest possible, saves some energy probably in the process as well. The hardest part of using this gizmo is getting it out of the plastic blister pack which requires a heavy duty scissors to cut open. http://www.jr.com/coby/pe/CBY_MP2002G/ Gerald For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [Blind-Computing] I am still having problems with OE
Don't really know what could be causing it, but what I standardly do if jaws doesn't tell me what's happening on screen, I try alternatives to see if they could maybe tell me something. Primarily, I'd try either NVDA first since it's form of object navigation/non-use of video intercept really makes it sometimes handle things somewhat differently, but you could also just ry running narrator along with jaws and see if it tells you anything. This might not necessarily help at all, and another thing you could try do is just leave it to do whatever it's doing for around half an hour since I suppose it could be trying to do something like run some form of folder process, or else your OE data might be corrupt as well, in which case you might still need to try cleaning it up somewhat, but really not sure off hand. Let me explain for those of you who didn't get my first post. Firstly, I'm using jaws11 with windows xp home. I got IE8. whenever I open up outlook express, now keep in mind this has never ever happened to me until recently. Jaws will stop talking and a tremendous humming of disc activity will take place. Even if I try to arrow up or down again it will freeze and start whirring again. then when I close I get end program outlook express etc. then of course I get that oh so lovable don't send button or send error report.
