I use NVDA everyday but am using JAWS 12 for a while as I actually quite
like this compared to JAWS 11.

[Blind-Computing] daily information

2010-10-26 Thread David Ferrin
Daily Tip:
External Hard Drives Power

Among an external hard drive's advantages over adding a second internal drive
to a PC is the fact that an external unit typically receives power from an AC
adapter. Hard drives take a lot of power to start their disks spinning when you
turn a PC on. If the computer's power supply is only marginally able to run the
rest of the devices as it is, it might not be able to start the PC at all
should you install another internal drive. You can buy drive enclosures to turn
internal hard drives into external ones for about $25 and up. Be careful to buy
one with the correct interface for the drive you have (such as EIDE [Enhanced
Integrated Drive Electronics] or SATA [Serial ATA]) and a cable interface
supported by your computer (such as USB 2.0 or eSATA).

  Daily Term:
kibibyte

From kilo binary byte, a unit of measurement that is equal to precisely 1024
bytes. Similar to the more common kilobyte. Kibibyte came about because the
prefix kilo may refer to 1000 units or 1024 units, whereas Kibibyte strictly
refers to 1024 units.

Thanks. I have to either go over there or maybe tell her over the phone how
to select it so it boots up when windows starts, I read that off the web
site how to do, seems easy enough, but she also has a demo of WE and lordy
who knows how to use that, she doesn't andwell guess I can muddle through it
if I don't like forget and think I'm using jaws and hit the wrong keys..

Re: [Blind-Computing] word 2002 and openbook

2010-10-26 Thread john justice
Two ideas come to mind lenny.
1. Save the document as a text file, then import it into Open Book.
2. Change the settings in the Reading options of Open book to ignore
punctuation.
3. print the document, then re-scan it using your scanner and Open Book.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] word 2002 and openbook

Using jaws and word 2002 I wrote a short story for a writing group. I wanted
to use openbook to create an audio file from the document. When I read the
word document everything reads correctly. When I read the file with openbook
all apostrophes are read as question marks. Is there an easy fix for this?

If you plan to use JAWS in remote (terminal) sessions, you will need
JAWS Professional if you don't have it already and JAWS Remote Access
authorization. These are chargeable features. JAWS must be installed on
both client and server machines, and you must use either Remote
Desktop/Terminal Services or one of the many products offered by Citrix.

The user guide is accessed by pressing Insert N to get to the
preferences and arrow down to the user guide.
http://webaim.org/articles/nvda/ also has a clear instructional page
about this great screenreader.

P.S. Though is open-source (free), the developers could likely use a
donation from their site as they've got some good ideas to make it even
better.

[Blind-Computing] Total Recorder Pro 8.x and Jaws 12

2010-10-26 Thread Don Risavy, Jr.
Hello,

Just downloaded, installed and registered Total Recorder Pro 8.x and
wondered if anyone has any ideas and or suggestion on how to keep Jaws from
being captured when recording live audio or streaming audio form the web?

I guess cold use my external doubletalk synthesizer to prevent this; but,
thought would check with others suing the program to see what you do or how
you get around this.

Thanks.
